An Anomaly in the College

Your feet echo softly through the college as you walk by the tall bookcases. The torches cast a dull flickering glow making the titles obscure and difficult to discern. As you hesitate, terminating your walking, and squint at the title nearest your face, you realize a rather peculiar aspect to the book. The tome has been reversed . As you scan the shelf you notice the occurrence more and more often till it becomes apparent that every single book has been reversed. Turning away from the shelves gaze flitting from point to point in the room it locks upon a small sheet of parchment resting in the middle of the room. As you bend down and retrieve the sheet from the black stone, you read in the dim light :

“ Thought you could use an new “perspective” on this material. “

Signed,

Q&D

Both the signature and the note, while in the same hand writing are not recognizable to many sets of eyes.

[For clarification the books have been reversed so that the spines face toward the wall, hiding the identity of the book]

Lucion quickly walks down the steps into the college, carrying yet more tomes to be interred within the eternal library. As he removes a tome from his book-pile and holds it out to a shelf crevice, he notices one of the books turned backwards in its place. Furrowing his brow, he quickly turns the book around to its proper position. Upon completing this action, he notices yet another book incorrectly turned. When pulling this book out of its place, he begins to see the full extent of the reversal.

He stands back from the shelves and glared at the books in confusion, and despair. He clenches his fists together as his eyes dart around the bookshelves, and spoke thusly:

He quickly leaps to the shelves and starts turning the books around properly in a frenzy of confusion and worry.

Ardene sits perched on the ledge outside the college. She hears Lucion scream like a mad-man inside the college and bites her lip. A pigeon falls to the ground dead hearing the ghastly noise.

"Just another day in paradise..." she mutters to herself.

*Yuln notices the books turned around and giggles slightly. She walks up to the bookselves and starts helping Lucion.*

Seth hears the shouting, he rushes towards the library, sword and dagger almost drawn as he spots Yuln and Lucion, he then lets go off his grib on the dagger and sword, still seathed, he walks down calm. "Lucion, why are you having a book turning contest with Yuln? And the shouting, was that the start signal?" He smiles slightly, waiting for a respond from Lucion.

Placing one of dozens of books back into its proper position, Lucion hears the smarmy remark from Seth, and narrows his eyes at the shelf; trying to think of words that could define his feelings for those present. However, the feelings (a concept alien to him in even the most basic forms) could not be represented in any words that he knew. He turns to the group, and opens his mouth.

He closes his mouth, and glares coldly at those present before returning to his book-placing.

Seth raises an eyebrow, clearly seeing Lucion is far from the mood for jokes, he sighs and walks out of the library again as he spots Ardene, he sits next to her. "Karin'ayla and thanks for the daggers, do you know why Lucion has gone... One more step over his... normal condition?" He says with his casual voice, hoping no one else make him screem like the two other times now.

*Yuln stares at Lucion, slightly dazed. After a few seconds she shrugs off her state off confusion and puts the book that she was holding on the shelf. She continues with double efford to save Lucion as much stress as she can save him.*

But a few months later, Ante'vuln and Kolyat giggle and stumble over each other as they cross the threshold to the library.

"Did you hear Lucion's shriek the -last- time?" Ante'vuln reminisces, brushing at a mirthful tear at the corner of her eye. She approaches the now-righted bookshelf with eyes alight, "I could hear the dreadful ruckus from my house!"

Kolyat seems to be laughing far too hard to reply properly, muffling the sound with a clamped hand. For a moment, the two simply find it impossible to order themselves, as friends lost in merriment often do. Ante'vuln guesses, anyway--she doesn't have much outside of speculation to compare to. And she's also never had a sibling, but she imagines this is what it would be like, if she did. Kolyat in many ways, is the elf she feels least proper around. He makes her feel easy, almost child-like with his typical, over-eager smile. At one point in her life, she'd gone through every measure to avoid him. But now, being around the spirited elf feels as natural as if he had always been there. Vuln is, at her heart, a rather dutiful personality, but around Kolyat--she feels differently. Her impish tendencies given flight by his encouragment: to her, Kolyat's blue eyes twinkle with what she's come to interpret as pure, unadulterated possibility. Possibility for fun, and in particular tonight--mischief.

"I almost feel bad," Ante'vuln muses in a whisper, turning a book backwards once more, pages facing the viewing side of the shelf, "Lucion says this library is a representation of his own person, and we're ruffling his visage!"

Kolyat joins her, the two working as quickly as their hands can manage. They move from one side of the shelf to the other, re-turning the books to their improper positions, and giggling in a stifled manner as they wreak their havoc.

"Truly? You do?" Kolyat looks a bit skeptical; he knows her too well by now. He kneels to address the bottom shelf, and Vuln stands on her tiptoes to reach a higher one.

"Almost, " Vuln clarifies, smirking. They work in dedicated silence for a while. As Ante'vuln approaches the very last book along the row, she gestures widely to Kolyat. "Do the honors?" she murmurs, winking.

As Kolyat flips the last book, Vuln scribbles a note on a piece of paper, changing her print slightly by reversing her usual slant:

"Wise words: Never judge a book by its cover.

Wisdom is difficult to obtain. Here, let us help you with that.

Yours,

Q&D."

Ante'vuln places the note on a nearby table, and Kolyat walks to her side. The two stand back and admire their handiwork for a moment. At length, Ante'vuln rubs eager hands together, and grins.

"That'll teach that stuffed coat to keep his hands to himself! ...Now hurry, let us depart before we are discovered."

[ ohh this is such a beautifully written reply but I have to go for a bit and cannot write a proper reply just yet. So I shall reserve this spot ]

As the two elves make their way quickly through the city, eager to increase the distance between the college and themselves. Kolyat turns his head casting his gaze to Vuln as they walk. His eyes betray his utter glee and merriment, a mischievous smile boast it's presence on his face, the look reflected on the face of his companion. They stop at a secluded spot, a wall facing the sea, the cool night wind brings a slight shiver down his spine.

He looks around cautiously ensuring they are alone. He begins quietly but the excitement in his voice is unavoidable " Oh what great sport we have ! Though reason would suggest that as soon as the discovery is made, restorations will begin. Perhaps we need another distraction "

A few silent moments pass before Ante'vuln's face takes on a most mischievous, complexion. She gently lays a hand on Kolyat's shoulder a slight gentle tug asking so subtlety for an audience with his ear. Obliging he leans slightly to the side allowing for the cupped handed whisper to be shared. The merriment worn upon Vuln's face as she begins, spreads like fire across paper onto Kolyat's. He bites down on his hand bending forward in an attempt to prevent the incriminating laughter building in his chest. He turns upward looking to Vuln laughter reflected in each others faces. After several moments he dares to speak doing so in a hushed whisper " But my Queen ! Would it not be better to couple the two ? We have more than enough webbing and the floor is not so large as to where we would " the peel of laughter interrupts his hurried speech and he bites hard on his wrist, tears of bliss now freed rolling don his cheeks. As he takes several deep and controlled breaths his gaze find Vuln, caught in a similar state. Under the moonlight their tears could be quicksilver, shed out of unadulterated joy. After a handful of breathless moments and many more gasping for air, they recover .

Once again, Lucion trots down the steps into the library, scribbling into a small notebook. The library was usually his first stop every morning; finding the mountains of information comforting before the outset of a long, work-filled day. Finally making it to his beloved shelves he peers, once again, at the books turned around incorrectly. His mouth drops again at the sight, and he breathes in sharply; a shriek close to pouring through his lips. Suddenly, however, he notices a small, alien, piece of paper upon a table. Walking over to it and examining the contents, he looks back to the shelves, and speaks thusly:

The disorder had to be stopped at any cost. He knows the perpetrator would strike again, and this time he would be waiting. With a look of utter misery, he sadly begins to return the books to their proper positions.

*passing by the College and hearing the odd laughter-esque noise Altariel makes her way passed Seth and half way down the staircase only to see Lucion turning the books around*

*A small stifled laugh escapes her lips as she places her arms behind her back and tilts her head at Lucion before saying*

"Is everything alright, nealuir?"

Looking up from his book-turning, Lucion peers at Altariel and Seth wearily, and shakes his head. He was not in the mood for talking and, judging by their poorly-hidden laugher and amusement, they had no sympathy for the beauteous library that had been corrupted by the foul, knowledge-hating perpetrator. He quickly thought to himself on ways to rid these interrupting scoundrels from the room. He thought; "what would the Maheral say?"

Lucion quickly narrowed his eyes, and gazed directly at the two elves, speaking quietly.

He nodded once, and returned to his work.

*Tilting her head slightly she looks at Lucion*

"I think I know how to cheer you up.."

*walking down the stairs and over to Lucion she leans in and says*

*she then coughs slightly and looks at him expectantly*
