The important question I think that's being overlooked is WHY? Why is LOTC being Ddosed so hard? What makes us stand out any from other severs?

There's two choices to the answer:

1. Someone that LOTC has ticked off in the past is doing it for revenge.

2. A random group has targeted us for no reason other then being evil.

I lean more towards option one, but don't know who would be this ticked off.

I'm by no means an expert on DDoS.. but you have got to have a serious botnet to inflict this type of constant downtime. We aren't talking about one angry guy in his parents basement.

Also.. I know they filter traffic to try and overcome some of the packets.. what I'm wondering, is what if we banned all traffic except whitelisted users? I guess primarily wandering souls.. but would that prevent the server from being overwhelmed if it only had to deal accept our IP's? Someone more knowledgable weigh in?

Well. For one, most people who attack a server so much like this typically just do it because they can. There are a lot of people who attack servers that are advertised on reddit for some reason. There are a group of griefers whose name escapes me at the moment. But they constantly pick servers out of reddit and play on the servers till at least one of them receives moderator or admin status to cause real trouble on the server. They are quite frequent and they even make youtube videos of it. Some of them are pretty funny to watch others are blah.

They don't cause the servers to crash so the only crime they are committing is being a total ******.

Probably not. I m currently working on becoming a network engineer, and from what I've learned just the flooding to the server is causing it to crash. Changing the servers IP may definitely help.

The temp. fix I listed in the other thread would work to get us back in action albeit a bit crippled.

Likely the DDOS is from a competing server in my opinion.

Hmm, I figured it wouldn't that easy. I keep asking anyone about the device we purchased and the supposed changing of servers.. but it's been a bit tight lipped. Surely getting either or both of those things done wouldn't take more than a day or two? This is going on day.. 3? of a complete shut down.

If vaquxine does not respond to me today, we'll be switching hosts and we'll make a post prior to doing so with details. He hasnt responded in nearly two days - we're just giving him a chance - we do not have access to the servers console and therefor can't fix it ourselves :/

If he does not respond, we will make the switch and full control will be in more hands than one

I am worried for Vaquixine, I hope that something hasn't happened to him. I saw him log onto Skype the other night. I do not think he is the type of person to neglect the server.

If I see him log onto Skype tonight I will try and talk to him.

I hate to be "that guy" but why not just do it now, two days with no infomation and a lot of people are sitting around popping back and forth waiting.

The move to give the power to change it should have never been in one's hand int he first place, it's to reliant and if something bad happened to them (Goodness forbid) then a lot more people are affected.
