Halflings in 3.0

I would like to see more gardens and farms besides wheat. I remember how the berry grove and vines were so pushed out into the middle of the forest.

The burrows need to be more spaced out. I can't tell you how many times I've tried redecorating, only to dig into someone else'. Also, have a large set of land needs to be set aside for new burrows to be made. (We all remember the Great Summer Burrow shortage...)

I'm no halfling but...

...I'd like to see some larger "Oak" trees that would have to be player-made and would be considered older. Also, the Shire and surrounding hobbit areas didn't only have burrows. They also had some above ground buildings. I would like to see that implemented. Ofcourse, those might have already been implemented in the Vale already. I haven't been to the Vale in quite some time.

I know the basic space we are going to be using for our village in 3.0 and something to remember is that one big thing about 3.0 is making the whole map smaller. We don't have an overwhelming amount of room and we have three rivers cutting through, a lake, and mountains. We are going to need to plan well but it is still a great space with a fair amount of room that will definitely have enough room.

One thing I heard mentioned was having some big player-made oak trees, well we do and Native did an amazing job on them! And as we get closer to 3.0 which could be upwards of 4 months away we should do another one of these as well as a big census to see how many people we even have at that point.

That aside I am pretty happy with what it is but I am hoping to see our culture define a little bit and looking forward to seeing who is still with us!

From what I've seen from being a halfling on my second character, reading the lore, reading the Hobbit, and some other things, I think we need more uniqueness. I can explain the Vale in one sentence: A small bundle of burrows which collide besides a river of wheat and water. I think of the world so big, so interesting, waterfalls and plant life, color and such. Halflings and Hobbits are meant to be about themselves and fun, but we need more of these things.

As for the name, I like "Gireen" just for kicks

Edit: I got a real name: "Maple Fields" if not "Oaken Fields" or "Oaken Shelter' or something

^ What Jhonen said.

With regard to architecture I think we could move on a little bit with our ways, despite being quite afraid of change as a race. But we've done the same kind of thing twice over now with both villages, maybe some change would be a breath of fresh air to mix things up a bit. Some pictures:

Of course the sorts of buildings in the last two pictures would not do for a mere chap's abode, they could be for places such as the Mill and the watermill, buildings of industry rather than comfort. I think the two last buildings should be a bit less bulky and more sunken into the ground so as to be less brutal human style and more quaint halfling.

Something I wish to see is more peaceful, rural areas. Now, I understand that the Vale is already extremely peaceful, but we need something like a meadow or shaded pond that is specifically meant to be serene. And we could do with some more organized street names, adding onto the currently wonderful "Thief's Street, Tookwater Way, etc." It adds a fun little personal experience, knowing your own burrow's address for me, at least.

As for a name, I would suggest something that is similar to the land around it. Perhaps, now that the town will have an abundance of great oak trees, we could be something like "Oakshire" (my personal favorite, and it would be pronounced Oak-sure) or "Oakton". Something of that sort.

Alright I think we should certainly reserve space for a lovely little public park, walking, sitting and peaceful area. Splendid little ponds under the shade of some trees, benches, birds tweeting, it'll be lovely.

Architecture

I think that hobbit holes should be kind of sprawling, luxurious, and homey. Right now the hobbit holes of the Vale feel rather boxy to me, closed in. Think Bilbo's hole in the Shire, it sprawls across a fair amount of space on the inside.

Flora/Fauna

I'm (probably) going to be developing some lore for the types of animals/plants that will be native to the dwarven mountain ranges in 3.0. I really don't have a clue what would fit in a hobbit-type area, but it's just an interesting idea.

Possible Names

(Thanks to Bili for reminding me.)

Haven-Oak

Shiredown

Littlevale

Springdale

Oaken Fields? I like that one :D

I've been thinking of a few town names, relating to the more famous townsfolk.

Perhaps Featherdale or Fairwood (Faldo FEATHERfoot of Tibb FAIRfield)?

^ We know which one Faldo would prefer

I was thinking if we have the meeting burrow and the inn, why not put them closer together. Anytime I'm in the Vale I rarely ever see the meeting burrow ever used.

Maybe... We could have one rural area for the burrows, with fields and flowers and everything! Then, we could have another part a bit away from there that's more town-ish where the inn and other places would be. In the towny spot, the architecture could be more... Revolutionized I guess, and look a little like cottages sunken into the ground. Also, I was kinda hoping we could have some sort of town square! Unless that's a little too human-like for us halflings. :P And for the quest thing-ma-jigs (which are awesome and incredibly fun!), we could make random spots with whatever land we have left, to explore. Like a mushroom forest or a pumpkin patch. Something interesting! :P

And about the name... Hmmm... Oakhollow?
