The First Snowflakes Fall

Clouds begin to roll from the great Snowy Mountains south towards the rolling hills of the Vale. They begin as only small, fluffy balls of cotton, shading the forests and twisting rivers that make up the Halfling lands, but as the days wear on, the clouds begin to grow thick and dark. Small droplets of rain splatter across the windows and tops of burrows in the daylight, while at night, slippery chunks of hail descend from the sky.

As the days pass, cold drizzles make the town grey and lonely, and begin to wear down on the village's croplands. Farmers struggle to cover their most prized patches of wheat with cloths and blankets, and children are forced to stay inside due to the growing cold. In the mornings, Halflings wake up to thin sheets of ice coating the grass around them, and tiny icicles gather along the windowsills of burrows and shops.

After nearly a week of this dreadful weather, the skies thicken even more, bringing with them the cold bite of winter, snowstorms. Halflings pass quickly throughout the streets in search of warmth at the Drunken Sheep Inn and their fellow Hobbits' burrows. The sun has rarely peeked through the clouds for many days, and even when it does, it just adds light to the bitter days. The townsfolk shiver day and night, cursing the weather and the unpleasantness it brings.

Due to the rain, however, the snowfall has been light, and only piling up in small drifts and piles. It often melts before it can build up, which provides relief on the Halflings whose job it was to shovel away big piles of snow and ice.

Dofur strolls down to the river for his daily fish and attempts to wade in. Then he realizes that the river is ice.

"Aw...the nether blast it..."

Dofur looks at his trusty fishing pole and whacks the ice with the butt of it. The ice cracks open. Satisfied, Dofur brings over a stool and happily begins smoking his pipe.

"Ice fishing...heh."

Bungo walks outside in the harsh cold winds. He scrunches up his face as the shear-cold winds hit his face and he turns around saying.

"I need ter get me's coat."

He then goes for his coat, he puts it on and walks back outside. Walking around, he mumbles a few words which can be barely understandable.

"I don' like this weath'r. Not one bit. A drink 'nd a pipe will warm me right up.

He slowly pulls out a flask out of his pouch, putting it to his lips and slowly drinking it.

"Atleast this don' freeze like ter rest'o ter water. But this weath'r needs ter go."

Bungo then curses underneath his breath, slowly shaking his head as he waddles away.

*A human hunter that lives near the hobbits also suffers the cold like the others do. He sais quietly to himself "I need to go get some help... And fast" *he sais looking up in the sky and dreading the dullness and darkness of it. (ONE DAY LATER) The man packs his things and sets afoot to get some help on stopping the dreaded storms and or, help every one get a good amount of warmth.
