I think the best way would be to have players be able to craft all standard items, but special items like waraxes and long bows and everything the requires a custom recipe would use the professions plugin.

This.

I loved the skills plug-in. It, along with others, was one of the things that first attracted me to the server. In Aegis, not everyone was able to everything, but everyone was able to do something. I'm not usually an Aegis nostalgic, but in this case I feel like it's worth going back and looking at. I agree, the first suggestion seems far too restrictive. Players in slow timezones will not have access to items, players seeking independent characters will be forced to break character and frustration will mount.

My suggestion is a return more or less to what was done in Aegis. Have different categories of skills where points can be distributed among them in different combinations and at different levels. However, do not make it nearly as restrictive as it was, especially when Vaq started meddling. Allow all players to access to planting wheat, creating stone tools, using stone tools, etc. This will give players the ability to create basic items to actually go ahead and play the game without always needing to seek out others. Yes, there can still be restrictions on top items so that not everyone can make everything. This is where a well-functioning shop plug-in comes in. As well, I like nppecks idea of allowing custom items to be made by those with higher skills.

But thanks for giving us the chance to whine complain vent dither talk about the potential changes.

Here comes my opinion: I think that this is perfect. It is terrible not to have any skills or professions. As long as we don't have Skills, there will always be the Powergaming outside of skills. No one would be willing to be a perfect Rp'er without restrictions, for there would always be a "I don't have this, no one is online to help, and no one is around to see me do this thing that is outside my characters ability", and doing something in ooc and saying that someone else made it for you IC'ly? What if someone walked up to you and asked you who made that for you and where would they go to have it done? How would you answer something like that?

With restrictions like this, it would give people chances to actually build a life on the server. I mean, Rp isn't supposed to be "Fun excitement" all of the time. You have to take it in both strides, as it is inevitable that down times will happen.

And, with all of these skills, I can see shop keepers being friends with one another, giving special deals to one another and stuff of the like. The thing that I am disappointed by, is there is an absence of a "Bartender" profession.

What do you think people play MC for? to be miserable? no. we play to have fun. to our player base role-playing is fun. So we dont want something that makes us miserable. if you like being miserable go make another server miserable. because we dont.

I personally hate it. My character is a hunter and can do half the stuff mentioned and i can only pick 2?! I don't Power emote when my Character makes long bows and battle axes. He barely ever makes battle axes and i make sure i break them quickly to show their weakness when he makes them. My character can make leather armor. what hunter cant? and my character can make string from wool. again what good hunter cant do most of these things? WAY too resticted. if this goes in im going back to my PVP servers. I found fun here but if its going to be restricted sooo bad then ill leave. and i know many others will too. and one heart when you spawn? are you crazy? bandages only worked for me because i used my credits to give myself the skill to make them. if i hadn't i would have been screwed.

I think professions should be perks not restrictions. sure i get how not everyone should be able to make armor and swords but my character can. He has learned and taught himself and has taken much of his life learning what he knows. You need to trust the player-base Not to Power-Game. We all applied here. if you thought we would break rules why were we accepted?

Just make like 6 different proffesions so you can have them all in one small town. not 30 different freaking proffesions/subprofessions/extra proffesions. That is just way to much.

And dont restrict vanilla, just give bonuses to the ones who mastered the skill.

^ Solution to everybody's problems.

As a nation leader I find it a must to have some sort of skill plugin because every single place is so damn self supportive and I can't open up trade to any kingdom. I have sent diplomats to the orcs and got a response "No we have everything, no need for trade."

*Facepalm

Although I agree this system is to restrictive and the plugin should be dialed down a bit and not make so many different skills. A professions plugin is needed of course to not make everyone so sustainable.

Swordsman

Axeman

Archer

Cook

Carpenter/Woodcutter

Medic

Excavationist, maybe this would go along with mining though instead of being by itself.

Miner

Smith

These are what should we have give or take a few. A cook should be able to just cook everything to make it less restrictive. A miner should mine everything and perhaps have the chance system for diamonds to make them less popular then they are now, ect ect. I believe a basic system like this will help kingdoms and people trade, and also let the people of LOTC have their freedom to the point where they can select the skill they like and not beable to master everything else. Also with this less of skills we should make it so that you can only have /one/ profession.

Thank you for reading.

I like the idea of this. This could be what makes LotC the best server ever (Oh wait it already is). This is what could make LotC the most popular server ever. There thats right. But right now this has WAY to many jobs. Way over complicated. This could turn into something quite amazing, but right now to complicated, and restricting.

No way to the first option. With the previous skill plugin, which was less restrictive than what is proposed, their was far less RP because people were sitting alone making items rather than RPing. I think that a system where everyone got base level or just below base level skills is the way to go, with professions adding bonuses. That being said, I would like to see resources limited (ie certain crops can only be RPly grown in certain areas, bonemeal not being used) in order to keep a trading economy even with less restrictions.

Like many others have said, the original skill system back in Aegis was fine. It encouraged RP WITHOUT restricting it. For example, you needed some solders for a battle. Instead of getting everyone you could, you got people who had bonuses while fighting. Im not saying that there should be combat professions, I don't. This is a role playing server in Minecraft. In minecraft you can do anything. So, to maintain the whole idea of our server I feel you have to strike a healthy balance between MC and Role playing.

Look at my idea for a professions plugin. No restrictions but bonuses to those who have the job perk.

I personally think that standard items should be available to everyone, but certain items require a profession. It was like this in early Asulon and I have not seen any complaints about it. For example, to be able to fight with a sword you required swordsmanship. To be able to craft a sword you required blacksmithing.

I think we should go back to this skill system, in my opinion it was amazing. As for this skill system, I don't like it at all to be honest. There is realism that makes the game more fun, and realism that takes the fun away and makes it more of a hassle.

I don't like this. Honestly, I feel like if this system was implemented, we'd all have a giant chain and ball around our ankles, and when we want to unlock it we have to go through eight people and half a stack of diamond blocks.

I do not like the idea of the staff monitoring whether a person is role-playing their character right or not. That feels like big brother government watching everything you do. Taking away the players' freedom is the worst idea.
