Professions Plugin - Feedback. [RE READ FIRST POST]

I had made a big long idea post somewhere a couple months ago but I can't find it anymore so I might as well just say this instead.

I personally don't think we even need one. IF we have a very good, and smoothly working Shop plugin. I don't know if it was working well internaly, but the chest shop plugin was rather nice, and I also remember seeing Danny make a post about shop plugins.

Why would we not need one if we had this?

Because a lot of people won't want to bother going out far into the wilds to get iron, and will simply buy a sword, or such things. I remember in Aegis, I had access to nonpermed area, and I still simply went to Alras and bought my bread there, even if it made me poorer because it was more practical.

People will see a shop, and find items in it. As long as they have money, I'm ready to bet my hand more than 75% of them will buy instead of going out of their way to find gold, etc. Unless of course they are robbers.

In my characters case, if she found a shop she'd rob it.

Conclusion:

As long as we have a good shop system, and keep the permed land people will buy from it, and make jobs thrive, and the economy work instead of making their own stuff.

And really, if they do it from time to time, to just quickly finish it and continue some good RP, is it that bad?

If this goes through, I will embed a tomahawk into my monitor, because hell I won't need it anymore after this goes through. No. Just plain no.

This system is awfull, I'd have to get more then 5 people involved only to get myself some basic armour. This is too much for the playerbase we have. And you are only thinking of the American side of the playerbase. Ever thought about the 40~ players online european time? We have to wait till late in the evening to contact people so they can make stuff for us.

This is a huge no-no

Far too restrictive. No one will want to be those useless professions like say a weaver or a gaffer. That would mean no one would be able to craft those resources so they would be impossible to find. Please please please make it less restrictive. If it is going to be like this I would honestly stay with the vanilla style LotC.

Relgards idea, no restrictions, you can get the default, and only the professions could get a bit more, and these professions are way too spread out !

I... dislike it. I honestly prefer how it's working now, with no crafting restrictions.

As time has shown, most of the community dislikes crafting restrictions, and I honestly think the only way to get a profession plugin that people like will be to give perks rather than restriction. For example, everyone can get 4 planks from a log, or cut trees, but a lumberjack can get 6 planks, and have a chance at double/triple drops.

IMO, we simply don't have the playerbase to support a restriction-based skill system.

I like this idea. One thing I would like to add to it would be maybe if one of your professions isn't in that skill then you get 2 wooden planks out of a log instead of 4 and if your profession is in that skill you get 6 or 8. Like he said our playerbase is far too small to be restricting it like this.

As nearly everyone has said, it's far too restrictive. I remember when there was all that bandage and levels nonsense when every five minutes you'd die of hunger because you'd only get healed from bandages, I'm so sorry, but I don't really like the idea of this limiting the game.

Okay. Good. Feedback!

The thing is, we want players to RP their skills more so, for example, we want a chef to RP a chef, not having them able to make their own diamond armor, you know? It makes none if very little sense, or we don't want people being master of all trades. An idea we discussed after then would be perhaps have no restrictions in the plugin but buff up the rules. Saying that if you're caught, essentially powergaming your character even moreso than now so, if you're found to be playing a child character who makes his own food and tools or, the chef example above. You'll be formally warned and then even banned. BUT then, have a plugin that serves as an RP expansion of the vanilla system.

You will still be able to 'make everything' with no vanilla restrictions but if you, for example chose chef as a profession, you would be able to make items that only trained chefs can. They would have no mechanical benefit. No buffs, no OP wepons, just RP tools so. A chef might be able to make, I don't know, carrot cake, chocolate cake, as well as normal cake. These items would have ONLY rp value.

In the end, if this DOES happen, I think everybody should at least be able to make up to stone items, since it's pretty basic to do such rough tools even if it's time consuming. And people should also be able to make beds, sign posts, ladders..etc.

Though I still stick to my above points.

No. While I approve of the general idea of a 'professions' plugin, these are /far/ too restrictive. For such a plugin to work, professions would need to be broad. As for the 'respawn with one heart' thing... No. Just... no.

That's what I'm saying with the second suggestion. Though it doesn't make much sense if a child could make a perfect iron blade, which is what I mean when it comes down to the whole powergaming/metagaming section.

For example, we want a chef to RP a chef

People already do that and have since the start of the server, regardless of what skill or profession plugin we were using at that time. Every restrictive skill system was highly disliked. Why are we still running with this?

Another note: No spawning with low HP/no food. It's stupid.

I think we should keep it the way it is. No skill plugin or "profession" plugin as it is called now.

Can we not stick to the old adage of 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'? Is the server not fine as it is?

Lirinya mentions people RPing as children making their own food and tools -honestly, this isn't as much of a problem as you might think.

I know if this were my scenario I would do so out-of-character and claim that a responsible adult provided IC, as there's often very few people online during my play sessions.

You will still be able to 'make everything' with no vanilla restrictions but if you, for example chose chef as a profession, you would be able to make items that only trained chefs can. I like this idea more so. No vanilla restrictions, please.
