Definitions

In your own words, define what the act of roleplaying is:Roleplaying is a method of telling a story with many people at once. Good roleplay is when you can successfully build a believable story with the people you're around. The best kind of roleplay only happens in a very fleeting moment, where for a split second, the entire scene happening in game seems nearly real.

In your own words, define what the act of meta-gaming is:Metagaming is when you take knowledge you couldn't possibly know in character and acting upon it, breaking the fourth wall and usually generating HORRIBLE RP.

In your own words, define what the act of power-emoting is:Powergaming happens when you try to force your version of a scenario on another player. Usually, this devolves into a very shitty "NUH UH, YUH HUNH" scenario not uncommon on kindergarten playgrounds all across the world. Power-emoting is an extension of this, where you implement damaging acts with an emote, without giving the other player a chance to have their character react.

In-Character Details

Character Name:Nienna Calm

Character Race:High Elf

Character biography - Make this at least 2 paragraphs long, which must explain your character’s history, appearance, personality, age and any other details you deem necessary:

Nienna Calm is 107 years old, and she's lived far too much of it at a human speed. As a result, it's a bit hard to give her much of a biography for someone with so many experiences- I tried to fit in all the best bits, though.

Nienna Calm's childhood was anything but calm. It was actually punctuated with many explosions. Nienne's parents were the head prospectors in a little mining town that followed the High-Elf stereotype of racial superiority and snootyness. Nienna would have followed suit, had her parents not chosen to work in a mining-town predominated by humans and dwarves. As a result, she has a high-elven education and upbringing, but has a personality more common to humans.

Nienna never picked up a love for mining itself, since her excessive height made her fell cramped within caves, but she did find herself infatuated with the explosives the local alchemists used. She'd spend a lot of her spare time asking them questions, and hanging around dig-sites, to listen to the explosions. The alchemists, half out of respect for Nienne's parents and half out of sheer mystification with the child, were delighted to have her around.

Nienna's relationship with alchemists is what led her to become the fastest of friends with Diane, the daughter of a human alchemist who had aspirations of using her alchemy for healing others. Throughout her childhood they were inseperable.

Years later, when Nienna was around 25, the mines the town depended on finally dried up. As the ramshackle town began to disperse, Nienna opted to set out with Diane. Diane still harboring aspirations of being a healer, set out to find an alchemist more suited to healing, rather than blowing things up like her father. Nienna, who had already spent most of her time apprenticing to Diane's father, decided to come along, if only to keep an eye on her.

They became more than a little sidetracked.

When Nienna left her parents with Diane, it sparked a "Jumpy phase" in her life. (Jumpy phases are common to most young elves, who haven't come to terms with their long lifespan yet.) For Nienna, it wasn't a jump so much as it was a "leap." She spent years adventuring around with her friend diane. She fell in love, fell out of love, had adventures and explored the world, all with her friend Diane. 20 years later, when Diane, now 45, decided to settle down to a life of healing, Nienna settled down with her.

At least, she tried.

Unable to truly slow down with her rapidly aging friend, Nienna first turned to doing odd-jobs around where Diane lived, then eventually spreading out to do work with explosives in other towns around where Diane lived, until, at some point, Nienna rarely saw Diane at all. Nienna, now 85, realized this herself one evening, and in annoyance it caused her to get careless with her work. The explosion blasted her out of a window, and set the inn she was staying in into a roaring flame.

Diane, thankfully, was the first healer there. Had it been anyone else, Nienna's life would have probably ended there and then. Despite Diane's best efforts, she couldn't save Nienna's eye from the explosion, and a large portion of her skin became scarred from the shrapnel of the blast, including some of her right ear. Nienna spent months recovering in Diane's care. Nienna couldn't help but realize how old Diane had become. Even though she was now reacquainted with her best friend, she couldn't help but feel that death was going to take it away again, and that scared Nienna to her very core. Nienna spent the next 15 years as close to Diane as possible, and as Diane began to decline in health, Nienna began to care for her full-time.

That is, until~

The night sky was calm as still water. Nienna, and her life-long friend, Diane, had the fortune of sharing the same birthday. As a result, they had a long-standing tradition of enjoying nights like these together, under the stars.

Tonight was the eve of their 107th birthday.

Nienna was naturally tall, but for a high elf, she was unusually filled out, and curvy. It had the net effect of making her look like a human scaled up to match her elven height. Her hair was a bright silver, and she was wearing one of her favorite bright blue dresses, made compliment her eyes.

Unlike Nienna, Diane was only human- a 107 year old one. Hair that was once a Fiery red now glistened a silvery white. Her frame was small, hunched slightly, making her look like a small doll compared to her high-elf friend. She wore tonight what she wore every night, a humble dark grey robe a witch would wear, which, to a certain degree, Diane was.

"Come on, come on!" Nienna enthusiastically exclaimed to Diane as she helped her up a hill's gentle slope.

"I'm fine, really." Diane lied, her hips were protesting heavily at the excess movement.

After a certain amount of fussing, both were able to make it to the top of the gentle slope. Nienna had laid out a small picnic blanket her and a single chair, for her aged friend. Diane, a stubborn lady to the end, immediately refused the chair and, quite painstakingly, laid down on the grass beside Nienna. For a time, they laid there in silence.

"Nie-Nie?" Diane exclaimed, after awhile.

Nienna looked to her friend, "Yes, Di?" she responded with a playful expression.

Diane looked up at the sky with a stern face. "Have I ever told you about the stars an the comets?"

Nienna's expression faded, and she shook her head softly. Her friend was about to go into one of her philosophical diatribes, Nienna knew. Tonight, however, was special, and Nienna decided on bear with it.

Diane continued."Stars and comets are good rivals, they are. Stars shine brightly every night, and never seem to go out. Were they the only thing in the sky, they'd probably stay the same forever. Then, you have comets." A thin, nostalgic smile spread across the old woman's face. "Comets are but brief, beautiful bursts in the night sky. The stars love and sometimes envy them for their brilliance, but the tail of a comet fades all too quickly, and disappears in the night sky."

Nienna propped her head on an arm, and gave her friend a knowing look."Di, I know you all too well- This is about me and you, isn't it? I'm the star, and your the comet, right?"

Diane chuckled softly in response at first, but then started coughing uncontrollably. She managed to retrieve a handkerchief from a pocket as Nienna helped up into the chair, which Diane suddenly felt thankful for. As the coughing fit subsided, Diane managed to continue. "Yes, I'm definitely quite the comet, aren't I?" Diane noticed that the handkerchief was now spotted with drops of blood. She quickly stuffed the piece of cloth back in her pocket, for fear that Nienna might see.

"And I'm the star, then?" Nienna questioned.

Diane smiled softly. "As to that, I sometimes wonder."

Nienna put on a curious expression, "Wait, so if you don't know, what's the point of the analogy?"

"Here, come closer." Diane tiredly beckoned Nienna. "My eyes aren't exactly what they used to be." Nienna obeyed, kneeling down in front of her tiny friend, so she might get a better look.

Diane regarded the face with a warm smile. "Look at you. Many a flatterer would say that you haven't aged a day since I met you, they would." Diane reached a hand out to Nienna, brushing aside the hair that concealed almost half of her face. It revealed a massive burn wound with a matching eye-patch underneath. Diane lightly cupped this part of Nienna's face with her hand. "I know a bit better though, don't I?"

Nienna's curiosity turned to a slightly annoyed disbelief. "What... are you saying, Di?"

Diane lowered her hand from Nienna's face, speaking softly. "You look like a star, Ni-Ni, but you burn like a comet. If you keep up like this- living your life so wildly, you'll go out like comet too." Before Nienna could answer, Diane took her hand. "Listen, I'm not going to be around much longer, Nienna. You know it, and I can feel it." Two lines of tears began to work their way down the wrinkles of Diane's face. "But before I die, Ni-ni, you must promise me that you won't follow, that you won't follow for a long time."

"I-" Nienna began to respond, but she was interrupted by Diane grasping her hand more tightly. Nienna's voice broke down into silent sobbing.

"Nienna," Diane continued, "Please, just promise me. Promise me that you'll stay safe, for me, always- even with your sulfurous alchemy."

Nienna wrapped her long arms around both Diane and the chair as she responded. "I- I will, Di. I promise."

Diane slowly returned the massive embrace. "Thank you."

The tall elf and the little human hugged for a time, and for awhile they returned to silence, Nienne was too embarrassed to say anything, and Diane a bit too busy enjoying her last few moments on earth.

Diane had always been good at her job, and one of the perks of being a healer is knowing how much time you have left. By her most recent estimate, she was sure she had about three minutes and forty-three seconds left, around two minutes and twelve seconds of which would be spent unconscious, leaving her approximately a minute and twenty one seconds left. She did one one last check in her head to make sure all of her affairs were in order, that the baker's foot would be helped by his daughter, that the old witherspoon's back would be in check (at least until he started climbing cliffs again), and a large number of other things that people generally needed a healer for. Finally satisfied with her own work, she finally drifted off into a deep sleep.

Two minutes and twelves seconds later, Diane, Healer, drew her last.

Nienna wouldn't notice until midnight.

What are your characters ambitions?: Nienna, still grieving from the loss of her friend, has set out on a journey- one set on getting herself reacquainted with her high elf roots. With her new reminder of the short-lived life-spans of the younger races, she feels the need to finally slow down and live with who live as long as she does. At least, so she thinks.

Oh, also, Nienna is in no way me. It's like writing a book, I'm very fortunately detached from her as a character, which allows me to play her properly in RP.

Is there anything else you would like to say about your character:

Nienna has an intense fondness for explosions ever since she was young. However, while she knows how to craft bombs, she is by no means a proper alchemist, and would require real, formal training to do anything much besides cause something to detonate.

Open-Response-Questions

Each question here must be answered with a minimum of one full paragraph, and detail the scene you are given in the way it would happen in roleplay. These questions should be answered in first person.(Aw maaan)Be detailed, not short.

Upon entering the Mighty Human City of Arethor, you come across a shop-keeper calling out to sell his wares to passers-by. The shopkeeper is not a Human, he is a poor dwarf looking to make a living in a new city. What is your response?

Nienna's thought process would be something like this.

"Dwarfs always were the best diggers. I'd definitely take a look at his wares. Ooh- Especialy if he has any sulfur, or better yet, charcoal! You can do loads of things with proper charcoal.

Wait, is that a carrot I see? And potato and Oh gods be good not another produce-salesman. Why is he in arethor? Doesn't he know that farming is a staple of humans? Silly little Dunian. At the very least, he isn't going to starve."

You’re wandering the Oren Road late at night, when a large Orc begins to threaten a nearby dwarf. There is no help nearby, and the situation looks like it will escalate into violence soon, what does your character do?

Nienna:

Subconsciously, I'd start rummaging through my pack for materials.

"A dwarf and an orc is about an even fight for a dwarf." I'd whisper under my breath. "Mmm, but it isn't really the dwarf's fault the orc's about to run him through now is it."

My eyes would light up as I would eventually grasp a flare. "Hah! This'll get anyone's attention, maybe get some help for the dwarf. Wait, the orc might attack me if I do that." I'd then grab hold of a longer than normal fuse and jury rig it to the end of the flare. "Delayed activation! Genius, Nienna, Genius. Now the orc won't be able to chase after me."

With that, I'd light the flare, toss it nearby and scamper off. Hopefully, the dwarf would have a chance.

Whilst walking down the road to Malinor, you stumble upon an old man. His walking stick , looks weak and frail, and just as you are about to ask something, the stick breaks, and the man falls to the ground. As he falls down, a bag of Minas falls to the ground, and splits open. As you watch the multiple coins spill out, you peer down at the defenceless man. What does your character do?:

Oh dear, the old man would remind me of Diane so much it'd hurt. I'd check him over, like I learned to do with Diane, and, finding all of his bones in order, help him up, return his coins, and guide him to his destination. Poor old man. I hope he has family wherever he's going.

Wait, why is this posted? You're already implemented and this isn't an alt app. You don't need to make a new app if you want a new char. Send me a PM.
