Out-Of-Character Details

Minecraft Account Name: Patriotic_Fool

How old are you?: 17

Time-Zone/Country of Residence: GMT -8:00 (US Pacific Time)

Do you have a good grip on English grammar and the English language?: I hope so, or my 12 years of schooling will have been in vain.

Have you had any previous experience in roleplaying?: Yes. I have done roleplaying for many years. It began with Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne. I would play roleplay based games, such as SOTDRP, which involved on roleplay. I also spent 2 years on another roleplay based server, Massivecraft. Recently, I've gotten involved in forum roleplay games.

Have you read and understood and agree to the rules?: Yes. I checked the FAQ and a few guides, hopefully I won't do something silly like post about a serial killer mage who lost his family to orcs.

How did you hear about the Lord of the Craft?: My friend, Semperosa, introduced me to the server and recommended it.

Link any previous applications you have made to the Lord of the Craft: N/A

Have you posted this application on Minecraft Forum? If not, post it here: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/832121-the-lord-of-the-craft-enter-the-world-of-asulon-o-f-f-i-c-i-a-l-l-y-t-h-e-n-o-1-r-p-s-e-r-v-e-r-100-unique-gameplay/! : I'll post this finished application there when I complete it!

Definitions

In your own words, define what the act of roleplaying is: Taking on a role of someone or something and acting upon it. The role may be fiction or nonfiction, but I believe good roleplaying involves a creative mind and knowledge of the roleplay subject.

In your own words, define what the act of meta-gaming is: Meta-gaming is when a person takes out of context (or out of character, OOC) information and uses it in an in-game situation. An example would be if I was killed by a character, and I harbored ill-will towards the player who roleplayed the character. Later on, I had a new character. Instead of roleplaying, I used my meta feelings towards the player and my in-game actions followed that.

In your own words, define what the act of power-emoting is: Power-emoting is making an in-game action absolute, without giving another player the chance to react. Example: "Patriotic fool slashes at PoorVictim and kills him in one cleave." I did not give PoorVictim a chance to react. A proper way to do this would be, "Patriotic fool lifts his axe and prepares to swing at PoorVictim."

In-Character Details

Character Name: Markin Aronokath

Character Race: Human

Character biography - Make this at least 2 paragraphs long, which must explain your character’s history, appearance, personality, age and any other details you deem necessary: Markin Aronokath was born in Arethor. The bustling human capital must have seen hundreds of children born every day. It cannot be said that Markin Aronokath was special. His mother, who died of childbirth, was the wife of an ordinary peasant farmer. His father worked hard to raise him, and Markin was out in the fields helping out as soon as he could. The two of them lived a sustainable, albeit poor and unglorious life. Markin dreamed of adventure, as many other young boys did. His father would always shrug off his remarks and tell him that he should accept his fate; he would never be greater than a peasant. Markin never stopped dreaming. When he stabbed his pitchfork into a bale of hay, he imagined impaling a fierce orc and saving the day. When he chased off a stray dog from attacking his livestock, he saw himself toe-to-toe with an evil pigman.

His fantasies came true, but not in the way that he had hoped. Life changed when the dwarves came. He was not educated, and certainly not well-versed in the matters of the day. The dwarven invasion caught everyone by surprise. A crude sword and shield were thrust in his hands, and he found himself on the front lines of battle. Every able-bodied man was needed, regardless of previous experience. Markin quickly found out that battle was not as glorious as he had imagined. Humans were cut down all around him, and ill-trained Markin was no match for the experienced dwarven warriors. He dropped his weapons and fled as those around him were killed.

He meandered through the fields and forests, and kept walking. He lost his shield in the fight, but managed to keep ahold of his sword. Unfortunately, Markin was not a strong willed man. The horrors of battle overcame him, and he spent many years living in isolation in the forests. Scavenging off of what he could find, he survived. His mind, however, did not. Locals from around the area know of him, but to them, he is merely a crazy old man. Markin now keeps to himself in the woods, detached from society.

What are your characters ambitions?: Markin wishes to live out his days in the forest. He hasn't managed to rid himself of the ghosts of his past, and years of isolation certainly did not help. He has no hopes, and anyone attempting to talk to him cannot understand his crazed mumblings.

Is there anything else you would like to say about your character: I know about VAs. I'm not applying to be a thief, serial killer, or anything else along those lines. As far as I know, being an insane old man is okay. Now, I might apply for something else in the future, but one step at a time :P. I hope everything is satisfactory.

Open-Response-Questions

Each question here must be answered with a minimum of one full paragraph, and detail the scene you are given in the way it would happen in roleplay. These questions should be answered in first person. Be detailed, not short.

(I apologize for any grammatical or first/third person errors. I did my best to remain in first person, but I admit that I am used to writing in third person.)

Upon entering the Mighty Human City of Arethor, you come across a shop-keeper calling out to sell his wares to passers-by. The shopkeeper is not a Human, he is a poor dwarf looking to make a living in a new city. What is your response? I stop walking and see a dwarf shopkeeper in a run-down market stall. The dwarf calls out and beckons me to come over. Curious, I walk up to the shopkeeper. "Ay, what can I get for ya?" I stand there, in silence. "Hm. Ya look like you could use some new clothes. Get them rags off of ya." The dwarf rummaged through a box and pulled out a weathered, but clean shirt. "All yours for 10 minas!" I finally break the awkward silence. "Y..y...you.... .. m..monster!!" The dwarf fumbled, obviously shocked by my response. "Pardon me?" "You MONSTER!.. ... YOU... .. you DID THIS!!" Before the dwarf could muster a reply, I storm off, mumbling to myself.

You’re wandering the Oren Road late at night, when a large Orc begins to threaten a nearby dwarf. There is no help nearby, and the situation looks like it will escalate into violence soon, what does your character do? A dwarf and an Orc appear to be having an altercation. I walk up to them. "Please.." cries the dwarf, "let's not get ahead of ourselves!" The Orc demands that the dwarf fork over 50 minas, a sum that the dwarf obviously cannot muster. "YOU!", exclaims the Orc, "KEEP 'WALKIN OR THEREZ GONNA BE TROUBLE, YA HEAR?" "I.. I.. s.. sorry!" My feeble reply is met with laughter from the Orc. I leave, but stop and watch the situation progress from afar. As the Orc becomes increasingly impatient, the orc begins to use force. I watch as a few punches turn to a full-scale beating, and a smile creeps on my lips. While I finds solace in watching the dwarf being hurt, simultaneously I remember the horrors of violence, and I cannot prevent myself from vomitting on the ground. I stumble away as the cries of the dwarf get louder, and louder.

Whilst walking down the road to Malinor, you stumble upon an old man. His walking stick , looks weak and frail, and just as you are about to ask something, the stick breaks, and the man falls to the ground. As he falls down, a bag of Minas falls to the ground, and splits open. As you watch the multiple coins spill out, you peer down at the defenceless man. What does your character do?: I see an old man fall before me. A long beard and weathered visage look up at me, not unlike my own. "E...ex..Excus--". Before he could get out a word, the man collapses. A sack falls onto the ground and coins spill around him. Do I take them or do I help? "Please sir..", mutters the old man, "These are for my nephew. This is all I have.. don't take them. I beg of you!". I pause for a moment, and survey the situation. I gulp and attempt to make a clear response. "I..it is alright. Here.. let me help you." I help the man up and gather the coins with trembling fingers. I hand them to the man and look into his faded blue eyes. We share much in common. Were I the helpless man on the ground, I would hope that a stranger would show me the same kindness. "Thank you, kind sir." The old man smiles as he walks away, and I muse on the whole event. I certainly wouldn't show the same courtesy to a dwarf, but the man touched me in a way I hadn't felt in a long time. I walk off towards my destination, and wipe a tear from my eye.

Greetings Applicant, I am pleased to inform you that your application has been Accepted!

Please wait for you to be implemented by a Global Moderator!

This was an adequate application, and a good read.

Currently, we are in the map "2.5", which is a transitional period to our next map, 3.0.

The architecture may not be up to standards, as it is currently a temporary map.

Alas, the role-play is fabulous and abundant!

I invite you to scour the forums and browse at your hearts content, as you are now an Accepted Lord of the Craft member!

Saltuations,

Thu'um.
