[Important Warning] - Virus' Being Spread

Hey guys, a bit of bad news today,

There's been a recent influx of virus' being spread around the community as a result of work on various new LotC player-made clients being produced. This has not been done by those actually fully working on clients (Ben ~ and Tavari) but instead by idiotic morons who find it to be either amusing, or beneficial to do such things.

The client steals your login detail and sends it back to the creator - meaning they then have access to your Minecraft account. The spreading of this client has been solicited via TeamSpeak and Skype. If someone attempts to send you a link to a LotC Client.exe or any other form of .exe, report it immediately to a member of the GM or Admin Team - and save them as a buddy on your TeamSpeak. Once saved as a buddy, go into your contacts list and press "Copy Unique ID to Clipboard" and ask a GM to get their IP. Once we have this information, we can then compare it with the other IDs and IPs we have and get confirmation on whom it is distributing these virus'.

I already have one name pinned down, and I am awaiting further confirmation on it before taking action. If you are receiving files via Skype from another player always ensure that it is in fact the player who it claims to be (a GM was hit by a Skype user pretending to me a member of the community with the Skype name: 'HashMapGamer') - and always run it through your anti-virus protection software before even considering opening it.

We are not responsible for anything that you download from another user - and your system's security is your own responsibility - if someone gains access to your account and gets it banned on the Lord of the Craft, that's your own fault - so please, ensure your account is as secure as possible.

If you are, or have been approached by a member performing the actions described above - report them straight away to a GM or Admin on TeamSpeak (Poke them for instant attention) so we can obtain all of the user's information. Do not wait until after they leave - report them instantly. If they approached you last night, simply contact a member of staff with the name under which they did so - and also any chat logs that you have.

Please do not neglect to contact us if you have been contacted regarding this at all.

Cheers,

- The Lord of the Craft Staff

UPDATE: One player has been banned in connection with these events - more may follow later today.

Thanks Danny~

Just to add on, should you have downloaded the file, run a virus scan as soon as possible in order to remove the threat quickly. Full scan, not a quick scan, even though it takes a painfully long time.

How do we know it's not you Danny and you're just warning us to shift the suspicion away from yourself, HMM?

How do we know it's not you, subtly trying to shift the blame with your joking?

Now I feel like I want Ben to make a modpack rather than a client.  :why:
