Seeking One Whose Tongue Knows The Mori'quessir

Recommended Posts

The Arch Druid meanders about the large cities of the realm, pinning posters up on notice boards. The paper is frail and thin, the writing is sloppy and quick. The ever so thin paper reads...

"Dear men and women of Anthos,

I seek out one who can speak the elder language of the Mori'quessir. A note has been given unto me written in the tongue, and I am in need of translation. I reside at the Druidic Grove in the city-state of Malinor if you do indeed wish to help me. Any who can translate the note shall receive the grand gift of saplings, leaves, and an arch druid's eternal gratefulness.

~Arch Druid Dover, the Arum Druid"

Hanrahan blinks, then re-reads the note a few times, remembering his days living but only a stones throw from Menorcress itself, and being a scribe for lost languages...

"..Yes..I might just be able to do such a thing.."

He smiles to himself, and packs a cart, heading towards the grove.

((The language died with the last of the Mori. They never taught it to anyone and no Mori crossed into anthos.

It's quite litteraly impossible to learn Mori now. I'm pointing this out for anyone who might be saying they can, I was a Mori until the end and no one taught anybody anything more than perhaps a few VERY basic words.))

((That is actually not even remotely true. Perhaps they were not "Supposed" to teach anybody anything, but they most certainly did, not to mention translators learning.

In fact there were several Mori who ACTIVELY tried to teach people the tongue. There were SEVERAL early books made that described the language quite detailed. Again, perhaps they were not meant to but they certainly did. There are countless people who know the tongue quite well, and I presume some would still have books detailing the language ICly. ^.^))

((There are not countless people who know the tongue, because one that wouldn't make any sense and two it simply isn't true. In all my time as a Mori there was no teaching apart from maybe one or two Mori who got hastily executed and fed to the spiders.

If it happened before that then it would be so long ago and so ancient now that if even a few knew it would be alot. Saying countless people knew/know ain't true. And I'd very much like to see how these "detailed" books can teach you proper grammar, vocbulary pronouncing among other things.))

((He isn't looking for proper grammar or pronouncing, he is looking for a translation.

Regardless of what you say, there were a lot, perhaps too many, people who knew the language. Seeing as how Mori lived right next to Elves, and Elves live for thousands of years, I do not think the less than hundred years since the beginning of Asulon is "So Ancient."

I apologize if it offends you, but simply saying that something is not true, does not in fact make it untrue. I personally knew many, many people who had books of the language in Asulon. Perhaps it was Serenity's dream that her culture remain secluded and elite, but it did in fact leak out. Take pride in the fact that not every ounce of the race is dead. You cannot expect it to be, considering how much time they spent next to the Elves.

Regardless of wants, the "Mori" language is still known amongst many. Don't fret, for it is all in good rp.))

((Perhaps some people can be named, that know?))

Bircalin peers at the decadent, tattered notice with disinterest, far too old to mean anything now.

[[ Anyone can say they have books of the language, but actual books that include the language as a whole, translated, would be incredibly rare and/or flawed in it's scriptures and translations. There are not "countless" people who know the language and there are not many books either; having played a Mori'quessir and watched them and the events that transpired with them even before I initially joined, I can safely say that the language is not common knowledge among the Nations- the Elves included.

There is nothing secluded and elite about no one knowing about the language. I can roughly count out maybe one or two Mori' who (for some reason) tried to teach others the language but, as Spam stated, were executed and thrown aside for it. To be honest I don't even think any of the books written were legitimate. I personally think someone managed to coax some words out of a Mori' back in Asulon and then meta-gamed the rest of the language to complete their little translation book. ]]
