༺ Ben ༻ 38 Share Posted July 21, 2013 Tutorial: I: Make sure Everything is up to date on your Computer. Make sure Windows is up to date by checking for updates via ''Windows Update'' - This will provide the latest versions of various things on your Computer such as security updates for Windows which will benefit your system. Importantly make sure all your drivers are up to date, more importantly the GPU driver. This is arguably one of the most important steps, drivers tell your hardware, in this case the GPU, what to do. To check what Graphics card you have click the start button and search ''dxdiag'' and go to the ''display tab'', there you will find which graphics card you have. NVIDIA Graphics card drivers: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us ATI Graphics card drivers: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx Intel Graphics card drivers: http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect - Run this even if you have an ATI or NVIDIA graphics card because if was also check for bios updates, networking drivers, etc. which will also benefit you. II. Make sure you have the latest version of Java: Download either the 32-Bit or 64-Bit, which ever one your computer is. You can check this by going to your ''Control Panel'', ''System and Security'' and there you will see ''System Type'' (Example: 64-bit Operating System): http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp Uninstall previous versions of Java from your computer before installing the latest version. III. Download the mod ''Optifine'' Download link - Official Minecraft Forum Optifine post: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/249637-162-optifine-hd-b4-fps-boost-hd-textures-aa-af-and-much-more/ Install Optifine as you would any other mod Find what settings are best for you with Optifine by experimenting. If you are getting low FPS lower things like your ''render distance'', set ''graphics'' to fast, ''performance'': max FPS, turn off rain and snow, etc. (Example of Low settings: http://imgur.com/ahM4y,kFoXs) IV. Have no unnecessary programs open while playing Minecraft. For example, when you are playing Minecraft have things such as ''Skype'' closed if you are not using it while you are playing Minecraft V. Close unnecessary ''processes'' Go into ''task manager'' by right clicking your taskbar and close all unnecessary applications that are open and you do not need. (Right click on it and ''End Task'') Also right click on Minecraft (Java Platform SE Binary) and set priority to ''high''. VI. Uninstall all unnecessary software on your computer. For example things that came with your computer when you first bought it that are not needed or things which you have installed which you don't need anymore Go into your ''Control Panel'', you will then see ''Programs'' and under that you will see ''Uninstall a Program''. Right click on something to uninstall. VII. Regularly ''clean'' your hard drive You can do this by deleting all unnecessary files from your computer and unistalling all unnecessary programs. (Program that is handy: http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner) Defrag your hard drive regularly (Best program in my opinion: http://www.mydefrag.com/Manual-DownloadAndInstall.html) VIII. Use Razor GameBooster: Download: http://www.razerzone.com/gamebooster ''Razor GameBooster automatically enhance the state of your system and focus all its resources purely for gaming'' - People have various results. IX. Allocate more RAM to minecraft. To do this:Open your ''Control Panel'', Type ''Java'' inside the ''Search Control Panel'' box. Click the Java icon that pops up. Click the Java tab. Click ''View'' and then ''Change Runtime Parameters''. I have mine set to: -Xincgc -Xmx2048M (2GB) X. Update LWJGL (At the moment Minecraft has the latest version): Download: http://www.lwjgl.org/download.php Essentially LWJGL, it is what Minecraft uses for graphics, sound and input In the lwjgl-X.X.X.zip, there should be two folders. one named jar and the other named natives. You should replace the files in .minecraft/bin and .minecraft/bin/natives with the versions from the .zip. XI. Force Minecraft to use the correct GPU: It has been mentioned by one of the Minecraft Developers that the new launcher will default to using your integrated GPU. If you have an ATI or Nvidia graphics card in your laptop it will also have an integrated GPU with comes with your processor and motherboard. Use these settings in your Nvidia control panel and it should be roughly the same for ATI cards: http://gyazo.com/c742901453663d1019229c3b654f47b9 & http://gyazo.com/48ceb4efef6c2a33cd4d1c9f993c8c97 XII. Correct Power Setting: Navigate to your control panel and from there go to "Hardware and Sound". Click "Power Options" and change this to "High Performance". If you have any queries or questions feel free to ask, I will attempt to answer every question to the best of my ability and try to help you as much as I can - Ben.

༺ Ben ༻ 38 Author Share Posted July 21, 2013 If you read though both topics you would see his is missing some very key and important things, not that I am saying anything is wrong with his - He forgot to mention drivers which is arguably one of the most important things when it comes to improving FPS. With outdated drivers, especially GPU, hardly anything in both of our guides will help you. He also didn't mention anything about Java, which along with GPU drivers is extremely important as what does Minecraft run off? Java.

3andD 1716 Share Posted July 22, 2013 Allocating more RAM to minecraft is a big no,no. Java is notorious for hogging more RAM then it needs. FPS++ Is also a mode which will help keep your FPS on the top end.
༺ Ben ༻ 38 Author Share Posted July 22, 2013 Different users get different results from allocating more RAM to Java, hence why I have it in the ''Additional things you can do'' section. I will take a look at the ''FPS++'' mod, thanks for the feedback.
