~A Beginner’s Guide to Humans~

Greetings, Anthosians! My name is Aislin, and I’m here to give you a quick rundown on the Human race on Lord of the Craft. Humans have always had a presence in the fantasy genre, yet their role and characteristics can vary greatly between each fantasy setting. This guide is going to teach you about the different types of Human, how they function in Anthos, and how to play one.

Characteristics

The Human race is diverse and morally neutral, with many different sub-types and half-breeds. Humans are physically able to learn any skill, with an adaptable body type and generally competent mental capacity, but tend not to master them in comparison to masters of the other races. They tend to be fair in their coloring, with their hair colors varying greatly. They can be capable fighters but lack the agility of the Elves, the strength of the Orcs and the hardiness of the Dwarves. While the Humans may lack the mastery of most physical skills, they are experts at the art of politics. Humans live short lives, and as such scramble to expand, conquer and create a legacy for themselves in the few years they have. In order to survive, Humans thrive on the principles of cooperation and unity, and often follow one strong leader’s ruling.

Sub-races and Half-breeds

Being spread out over different climates and beliefs, the Humans have adapted and changed in small groups. As a result, various sub-races and half-breeds have arose from within the ranks of the Humans.

Northerners (Sub-race): The Northerners live in the harsh, snowy reaches of the North. They are generally stronger and sturdier built than most Humans, seeing improved talents in swordsmanship and other physically daunting tasks, but lack in farming and more technical tasks.

Southerons (Sub-race): Generally living in flatter, hospitable lands, the Southerons are taller and more frail than their Northerner counterparts. The Southerons are sharp of mind, and serve as stellar politicians, but are rather average in combat.

Halflings (Half-breed): Originally the offspring of Human and Dwarf, Halflings are a short people that avoid the politics of large cities, and combat in general. They are a peaceful people, skilled in farming, cooking and brewing good ale. Halflings have disassociated themselves from both Humans and Dwarves, residing amongst their own.

Adunians (Half-breed): With lineage from both the Humans and the Elves, Adunians are muscled individuals that stand at six feet or more. They have moved homes several times throughout their existence, and have reached an almost nomadic lifestyle. Stubborn and arrogant, they follow “the Old Faith” and wear plaid tartans.

Culture and Government

The Humans have traditionally followed one monarch, their King. Humans don’t have one single culture, instead many. Culture varies between each settlement within Human lands, and they’re best discovered through roleplay! Originally they were united under the banner of Oren, but politics prevailed and caused the splintering of the Humans into two kingdoms. Over the course of many years, this pattern has continued, and there are currently several Human Kingdoms in Anthos. Oren still stands as the largest and most prominent Human Kingdom. Oren follows a feudal style of government, with the King being at the helm of the nation and delegating power, land and men to his subordinates as he sees fit. These subordinates can then delegate assets to their subordinates, and so on and so forth. Many noble houses are found in the Human race, with these houses arguably holding the most power amongst their people. If one is looking for employment as a Human, one should look no further than the Human Kingdoms or the guilds within.

“How Do I Roleplay as a Human?”

  1. Find other Humans to roleplay with. As a Human, you generally won’t be able to join an Orcish clan or become a scholar amongst the High Elves. Humans thrive when surrounded by other Humans, so find yourself some.

  2. Alternatively, join a Guild. If you don’t want to join a Kingdom of the Humans, and want to have regular interactions with other races, perhaps a Guild is the route for you!

  3. Pick a profession for your character, and train that. Humans can learn a plethora of skills, but can only master one. Seek out a master of your craft, and begin training with said master.

  4. Understand that, as a Human, you will be inferior in many regards to other races. If you start a fight with an Orc, you’re probably going to lose. If you become a miner or a blacksmith, the Dwarves will have a superior ability than yourself. If you become a farmer, the Halflings will be getting better harvests and cooking better food.

  5. Utilize the strengths of Humans: their adaptability and their numbers. Though you will likely lose a duel against an Orc, a Human could bring six other Humans to the duel, and all of a sudden the battle leans in your favor. As for adaptability, Humans can learn to use an assortment of weapons, and settle in any type of climate or area. Humans are flexible and are great at overcoming new obstacles.

  6. Age your character. 14 days (two weeks) in real life (IRL) would be equal to 1 year in game (IG). While aging your character is not part of the rules, it promotes realism and you'd be surprised at how much it forces you to develop your character.

That’s all you’ll need to know to begin roleplaying as a Human! There’s not much to it, really, until you delve into the politics and noble houses (if you so choose), which is where it can get messy. Now, go out and find your fellow Humans, for they will be waiting your help!

Adunians do not reach up to 7 feet tall, actually no where in the lore does it say this. Only the Clan Armas is taller than others, but otherwise Adunians are relatively the same height as Humans. However, you did get the stubborn and arrogant piece correct!

Good guide.

Not all Adunians where a tartan, only those who follow older traditions (Ildunians). It's actualy more common to not wear a kilt- or atleast lore wise. Everyone seems to want to wear a kilt now a days, and those who choose to properly RP an Ildunian with a kilt loose their originality and flavor. ):

Add in there that you shouldn't be super awesome edgy assassin guy. I know it seems so cool and fancy and "omg im lik da best1" but it does get on people's nerves. Also, don't try and prove your badarsey by threatening Orc cubs, because even they have the ability to rip a human to shreds, and if any other orcs are around, you will get your skull squashed.

And for an example of edgy badass: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1lXmWz07H9EUpEzdubv4fECLN11op2kbeE3jx6o10dwU/mobilebasic

Actually, in general, I found most Adunians are at least 6 feet tall. Never do they reach 7 feet tall, but 6' to 6'7 is where most of them reside, which is tall. I don't mean to be correct or anything like that, but that's just what I gather (as an Adunian myself).

I would suggest adding "Ambitious" to the description of an Adunian. The tallest recorded Adunian was 6'9, I believe, and belongs to the Armas clan. The only other Adunian who's taller than him isn't entirely Adunian, reaching 7'3.
