Graven Name/Title:

Scorch

Screenshot of skin to be used:

0d980fba93a1311bbcb79bbba7d7a30d.png

In a sentence or less, why do you want to play a Graven character:

I'm looking to try new things out, perhaps more on the dark side. This
seems like an opportunity to reveal the other side of my roleplay I'd
been storing in whilst being limited with the 'cliche' roleplay in Oren.

What roleplay do you feel you will bring to other players as a Graven:

If I am permitted to roleplay as a Graven, I believe I'll be able to adapt the characteristics and take the role of the 'ignition' of a roleplay scenario for when the atmosphere is silent and barely to none roleplay is occurring. I'll mostly spend my roleplay as my Graven physically encountering lurkers of Anthos, providing not predominantly combat-RP, but a more emotional, complex scenario that would have them thinking hard and in the shoes of my character's past life.

Another thing would be the idea of being a 'weapon'  for a limited time when maipulated/tamed by a fire evocationist. This will cause great chaos and at times force Farok to do things he'd normally not do when controlled by his tamer.

What ghost story, if any, is your Graven based on:

I have not based my Graven off anything, though I'd a thought before I
and _Grim1_ had discussed, but I decided to rid of it for the sake of
originality.

Have you been accepted for a VA or MA, and if
so, how many times did it take to be accepted? If more than one separate
application, please answer for all:

Farok'Gorkil - http://www.lordofthecraft.net/forum/index.php?/topic/85054-farokgorkil-second-va-mini-full-va-unread/

It'd taken me two attempts, the second being a success.

Open Response Questions:

What is your Graven's unfulfilled duty:

Farok had always tried to escape from the grasp and thoughts of honor that
stalked him. The 'honorable' people of Oren and San'Orka really didn't
help. They disgusted him, and when he was slaughtered by his own kin for
being dishonorable, he stared at the Wargoth of the Braduk clan dead in
the eye, vowing revenge.

He'll not only target the honorable ones of his kin, but those who show honor
anywhere else. With his trait of being dishonorable, usually you'd find
him abusing the innocent, taunting and at times provoking them through
fear.

To what does your Graven most respond:

Farok had abandoned honor, he hates it. He doesn't understand it, to him it
doesn't exist. It's a weakness, he'll be using it against those of
honorable settlements and militairys to prove them wrong. He'll follow
the 'adventurers' with ambition around Anthos, to be an obstacle and
stop them dead in their tracks.

Another would be the taming/manipulation of one who uses fire evocation, having Farok to be much like a tamable 'pokemon'  and can be called to battle if forced to, otherwise, persuaded as Gravens are sentient.

What, specifically, regenerates your Graven's energies (i.e. in what way is its duty fulfilled):

Unmanifesting, returning to the spot where he'd be manifested in the first place to recharge himself to become more capable. Otherwise, the manual charging from a fire evocationist which would of course temporarily weaken the tamer.

What are some typical signs of your Graven manifesting:

My Graven, Scorch shall appear in where there is fire, the two most common would be:

Torches

Scorch will be able to manifest at a slow, unbalanced spawn rate due to the fact of the small flames produced by the burning coal in the torch. Though, as he manifests he'll be vulnerable and rather quickly to be extinguished/stopped if caught, this would interrupt his ability to manifest.

Fireplace/Fire

Scorch will be able to manifest at a faster spawn rate due to the fact of the
large flames caused by either an ongoing fire either from an accidental
flame, or one to commit arson. Otherwise, he'll be spawning out of
fireplaces easier and at a quicker rate. Though, as he manifests, he's
vulnerable and possible to be extinguished, interrupting the
manifestation.

Fire Evocation

If one is to either manipulate or found dishonorable, Farok may be called to the scene to assist in battle, an example of this would be a basic spell from evocationist such as a fireball could turn into the manifestation of Farok in a rapid rate, attacking the foe until recalled back by the current tamer.

Write a short (2-3 paragraphs) biography of your Graven's first life:

Farok always saw himself as a honorable being, though he'd been seen
otherwise by those he'd encountered. He'd always forced himself to
change his own personality, adapting the characteristics of another
being that was not his wise self. Having to be 'pretending' to be
someone else with a much colder, angrier attitude there had always been
consequences.

This attitude changed his goals, along with his opinion and belief of honor.
Instead of achieving what he'd wanted, he'd become a bounty hunter and a
bandit at that which had forced him to abandon the War Nation which he
was Targoth of at the time. Being banished he'd been known as a
'white-wash.'

With his own new mind-set and a new sense of honor he'd traveled to the
humans to serve as a brute for Toveah who'd died from obesity shortly
after hiring him for a week. With the death of his boss, and no actual
source of income he'd been forced to return to his old persona, feeling
slightly uncomfortable at first. He was more relaxed and open, acting
less barbaric.

The people of the War Nation didn't understand this, they'd thought it was
the result of being a whitewash, being far too kind and mentally capable
for his race. Farok was not allowed back into the War Nation, being
hunted down eventually and slaughtered by his kin for being a disgrace,
whitewash.

However, for his duration of being a whitewash, he'd made a partner for his
business of bounty hunting, soon to become his best friend, Adeon
Fablenight.

Pirates or Ninjas:

Neither, I choose Vanguard from Chivalry: Medieval Warfare.

Write an open-ended encounter of your choice
that involves your Graven interacting with a living person (doesn't need
to be longer than a paragraph, if you aren't into heavy writing):

A young squire, at the age of 14 is seated before the fireplace in the
Inn in the city of Salvus. He feasts on a piece of stale damper, his
eyes focused on the blaze of fire as he tries to ignore the aching shins
and the bruised forearms and chest from today's training. He frowns
slightly, taking a moment to sigh, he speaks to himself quietly, "Life
is so hard, I wish I was strong, loyal and honorable like Ser Vaticus."

Then suddenly, two fluroecent eyes appear within the flame, staring directly
at him. The boy panics, falling stunned by the ghastly stare. Within
his pants, he could a warm liquid run down the inside of his leg, his
hand falls limp as the damper falls on his thigh. His mouth hangs wide
open.

Distantly, a barkeep had observed the boy, she'd found him adorable. Though, she'd
noticed this strange act, she approached the boy who'd be found
trembling, she arched a fine brow examining the boy and where his gaze
had been locked onto. There was nothing but fire, the fluorescent eyes
had disappeared.

A few weeks later, in the city it was reported the boy had for some strange reason attacked the knight in control of him, he was disciplined, though he remains mad.

In a sentence or less, why do you want to play a Graven character: The though of playing an Otherwordly character is to be frank..so awesome. And the unique roleplay i can bring as The Spectral Bard will be so worth it.

What roleplay do you feel you will bring to other players as a Graven: My goal while Rping as The Spectral Bard is to provide a type of creepy and otherwordly rp that isn't combat orientated.

What ghost story, if any, is your Graven based onNone that i know of.

Have you been accepted for a VA or MA, and if so, how many times did it take to be accepted? If more than one separate application, please answer for all:

I have only ever applied for One VA, and it was accepted on first try.

MA: Never applied for one.

Open Response Questions:

What is your Graven's unfulfilled duty: In his past life he was a Bard, so obsessed was he with his music that he dedicated his entire life to creating what he thinks is the 'Perfect Song'.

To what does your Graven most respond: He responds to other Bards mostly or anyone singing a song, writing poetry etc. Anyone with a creative talent that he might find useful in creating the perfect song.

What, specifically, regenerates your Graven's energies (i.e. in what way is its duty fulfilled): Every time The Spectral Bard discards a song he is fueled with the NEED to carry on his work and write more songs. Or when he steals a poem from a passerby in hopes of gleaming knowledge of it for his own perfect song.

What are some typical signs of your Graven manifesting: The wind begins to pick up, the leaves of the trees begin to rustle along with the wind, in the distance a soft melody is playing..the notes seemingly flowing with the wind as they reach your ears. After a while the wind begins to pick up, the song playing faster and faster, the song becoming more off note with every passing second before it descends into one of madness and insanity. The very life essence within the leaves appears to drain although you are not sure if this is a mere illusion. A sickening purple mist drifts out from the edge of the forest, before The Spectral Bard Manifests before you.

Write a short (2-3 paragraphs) biography of your Graven's first life:

Hark Blackard, a Bard at heart whom was born in the forests of Malinor. He was a simple man, who lived an ordinary life in relative peace. His mother was but a mere tailor and his father a Sentinel, a guard of their homeland. Harks passion for Music and Song started around the time of his fathers death, on the eve of his Anniversary with his mother when his Father died during the siege of an Undead Stronghold in the North.

When news reached Blackards ears of his most unfortunate demise and the tales his fathers friends were spinning about him, Hark set out to forever immortalize his father in song. As his mother grieved, Hark sat locked away in his room spinning such an intricate tale about his father, the notes of his Lute drifting off into the moonless nights. After days of this behavior  Hark emerged from his room, a simple parchment clutched in his hand. He took his mother, walking out to the square where he played his song. The people were in awe, and by the end were cheering for him, yet mourning his fathers death at the same time.

Hark took this praise as a sign to continue his journey into the realm of notes and melodies.  Years and years past as Blackard continued to craft intricate tales of Valour in War, tales of Life lost and Love found, romantic tales of Knights in Shining Armour.  One day, Hark was called upon by one of the Elven Princesses to write her a song about herself and her lover. And so he set out to do just that, however there was competition.

Hark took to the forests, a place of tranquility where he could set about his work in peace. This was when he began his descend into madness..Hark became obsessed with writing the perfect song, such a thing could never exist but Hark knew he could do it. Night after Night was spent by the river side , his Lute sending a peaceful Melody out into the night sky and when all was done he had completed a song worthy of any Princess. Little did he know he had been watched, a rival bard jumped out of the darkness, plunging cold steel into Harks chest, the piece of parchment clutched in his hand slowly pried out by the stranger whom would go on to claim the reward from the Princess.

In those last moments, all the lonely bard could think about was the profession he had whole heatedly dedicated his life to and the Perfect Song that he never completed...

And from this tragedy.. The Spectral Bard was born.

Pirates or NinjasYaarr! Pirates lad!

Write an open-ended encounter of your choice that involves your Graven interacting with a living person (doesn't need to be longer than a paragraph, if you aren't into heavy writing):

Victor Shadowheart clutched his newly written poem close to his heart as he wandered through the forest under twilight. He had written it for his lover, the gorgeous bride that he would soon wed if fate looked his way. As he happily walked along, humming a peaceful melody to himself he paused. The hairs on his neck standing on edge as he felt the penetration stare of someone watching him. A soft melody could be heard playing in the distance behind him as if it was being carried on the wind that had recently picked up around him, tossing loose leaves about the cobblestone path. Victor clutched onto the poem even tighter, dismissing the sound as a simple travelling bard. He was half right..

As Victor continued on his way the sound of the Lute still lingered in the air, the wind seemed to have picked up and with it the speed of the Melody. Victor picked up his pace, trying to outrun the sound. But it was no use, just ahead of him the plants seemed to wilt and die as the melody become off note. He paused, struck with fear, his feet unable to move him any further. A sickening purple mist seemed to seep from the trees out on to the path from the edge of the forest, the Melody now a thing of Madness picking up speed before falling into a soft tune of Insanity, filling the ears of the Victim.

The purple mist slowly began to take shape in front of him and after a few more moments the mist took shape with one final note of the melody sounding out into the night sky before fading into nothingness.

The Spectral Bard reached out with a skeletal hand towards the Poem that the fear struck Victor clutched dearly to his heart....

Question: What sort of VA will i need for my Graven?

None, unless you plan to commit villainous acts with them. The Graven Stare doesn't require a VA.

Nor does playing as your Graven or according to their morals and goals require a VA, as far as I know. I think it's covered by the fact that we're technically magical creatures, or at least I think so.

I believe it has been said by the VAT that you actually do need a VA. After all, you aren't magical creatures since you're still intelligent beings.

Well we better get this sorted out. We need to know everything possible to avoid problems.

Graven Name/Title: David Jonesen, The Drowned Pirate

Screenshot of skin to be used:

DAVY_zps160f4683.png

In a sentence or less, why do you want to play a Graven character: I have roleplayed with Gravens before, and can think of many things I could do as a graven.

What roleplay do you feel you will bring to other players as a Graven: I would bring RP as a dreaded ghost pirate, possibly haunting docks and taverns, and also to bring some comical RP through appearing at large events singing sea shanties.

What ghost story, if any, is your Graven based on: Davy Jones

Have you been accepted for a VA or MA, and if so, how many times did it take to be accepted? If more than one separate application, please answer for all:I have only been accepted for Minor VAs, which I got on my first try.

Open Response Questions:

What is your Graven's unfulfilled duty: To find my lost treasure.

To what does your Graven most respond: Treachery or Greed a large scale. A king lying to his subjects about something dangerous, a soldier giving military information to the enemy. He might appear to a con artist or a wealthy thief who hordes all of the money he steals for himself.

What, specifically, regenerates your Graven's energies (i.e. in what way is its duty fulfilled): Stealing the souls of traitors and the greedy, or being appeased with gold or other valuables, such as a well made necklace or an ornate weapon.

What are some typical signs of your Graven manifesting: The smell of seawater, crashing of waves, mist, or even sea shanties could be heard.

Write a short (2-3 paragraphs) biography of your Graven's first life:

David Jonesen was enlisted in the navy at a very young age. He was lucky not to have his legs or arms blown off as he was running around the lower decks of his ship, bringing ammunition to the gunners. One day, his ship was attacked by one of the fiercest pirates known on the high seas. His ship’s crew was killed, and the pirates took him on their ship as a cabin boy.

He spent his teen to adult life raiding pirate ships, and he soon learned that he enjoyed the pirate’s life very much. His captain trusted him very much, and when the first mate was killed in a boarding raid, the captain raised him to that rank. He grew to be a skilled swordsman as well as a navigator, and became feared in his own right. When David reached the age of twenty, the captain took ill. They had been at sea for weeks without any citrus to prevent scurvy, and the captain had been greatly afflicted with it. His beloved captain entrusted this mission unto David: “Gather the greatest golden treasure in the world, and become known to all who sail the seas.”

David was welcomed as the captain by the crew, who thought him to be a competent leader. For five years, they had a prosperous time of looting and pillaging across the seas. By this time, however, David had become known as “Davy Boy” amongst his crew. They had amassed a great treasure, and thus greed took heart in his crew. They mutinied against him, and, after beating him down, tied a millstone around his neck and tossed him overboard. Davy Joneson sunk to the reefs at the bottom of the sea, the legend of his exploits living on for many years to come. The last thought echoing through his mind was for someone worthy to take his treasure.

Pirates or Ninjas: Pirates, fo shizzle.

Write an open-ended encounter of your choice that involves your Graven interacting with a living person (doesn't need to be longer than a paragraph, if you aren't into heavy writing):

-The air in the room begins to stir, the scent of seawater faintly coming into appearance. A heavy fog rolls in, out of which a glowing blue-green figure emerges.-

-Davy appears before the fat merchant, noticing the large ruby ring on his finger. Davy grins, as he looks the man in the eye, beginning to cackle maniacally.-

“Wh-What do you want from me?!” says the merchant.

Davy cackles slightly, patting him on the belly. “Eech.. eech.. eech. You... have done nothing for your money....”

The merchant gains a frightened look on his face, as thoughts of those he had swindled or conned flash through his mind.

Davy caresses the man’s face with the back of his hand, before speaking again in a low, creaky voice. “Now.... I shall take something from you....”

The merchant begins convulsing, as the insanity begins to set in. Davy holds up a golden glowing orb, the man’s soul that he had stolen.

Davy speaks again. “Now.... you have learned your lesson I think.” He begins laughing, beginning to fade away as he whistles the tune of “Drunken Half-Orc”. The mist clears, the seawater smell ceases to be perceivable, the traces of his visit completely gone.

I have not yet received a PM from MonkeyCoffee on whether or not he wanted Graven to crew his ghost ship after all. Please remove this application; currently, without special dispensation the roster is closed.

Ah, so the VAT got back to us on that? Ordinary commoners are allowed to attack us without VAs seeing as we are ghosts, after all, and thereby count as provoking. I did, however, think it went both ways. People, if you want to be able to hurt people, it seems you'll need a VA after all, so keep that in mind.

I'd like to congratulate everyone on the stunning level of detail in the applications here. It's great work, all of it; continue!

If anyone can attack us for being ghosts, and that counting as provocation, then either we should be able to do the same to them, or they shouldn't be allowed to do that.

Otherwise it seems fairly one-sided and pretty darn unfair.

Other than that, I fully agree that us Graven should need VAs for certain actions, just as everybody else does. I was recently enlightened that possession counted as slavery and so I would need 2C, and I found myself agreeing with that person. Like I said before, if we get special treatment when it comes to VAs, then it's unfair to other players.

If you are a Evil Graven and want to make Evil stuff, then move on and write a VA. If you are a friendly Graven, then it sometimes not needed to make a VA. (I personally only use the Graven Stare if someone attacks me, that means if i'm allready hurted)

(We are just players too)

If people attack you, you can of course defend yourself. But entcountering a Ghost creature isn't enough provocation to just attack it, because we are like everybody else on the server just ...dead...

And soon there needs to be a "complete" guide that explains everything for the Graven players and the Community itself.

A quick idea. Why don't we all apply for religious zealotry? That would enable us to fervently follow our goals, which we technically worship an feel compelled to do. If someone could ask a VA about this, that would be cool, but other than that I think it would work.

Link to post

"Why don't we all apply for religious zealotry" is a good question. Also a good question: "Why would we apply for religious zealotry"

As far as I know, following our duty is not being called into question, and if we were to kill or harm in pursuit of our duty we'd still need 2A, still need 2C for possession. I'm not sure religious zealotry VAs would solve or add anything.

I agree with simply being ghosts not being provocation enough but for most people it is. Think about it; needing a VA to kill a scary ghost? You don't need a VA to kill spiders, or those ominous beings from the North. That's the way I see it.

On the subject of provoked, Warden counts as provoked whenever someone performs a major felony in his vicinity. Otherwise he's almost completely unable to physically harm a person.
