Hiylu looked over the wall of Lin’everal, towards the world beyond these cold, grey walls. Her fingers tapped against the surface under her fingers, deeply immersed in thought. “How had it come to this?” she whispered to herself, blinking. It had been ten years since she had come to this place supposedly here for a place of solitude, a sanctuary for Mali’aheral. But the word sanctuary is the wrong word for this place. A prison would better describe the city, in Hiylu’s mind. At first, Hiylu was in wonder of this place, mostly due to her sister’s determination to reach the city. But deep down, Hiylu knew she was scared of the home of the Mali’aheral. And with good reason. The thoughts of these people could be described by her as mechanical, little or no freedom of thought other than the Maehr’sae Hiylun’eyha.

She agreed with the meaning of it, but other High Elves twist this meaning to their own, cruel, fickle ways. ‘Pure and impure’ were the things that the Mali’thill changed to, fitting their xenophobic nature. She sighed, looking down. But she went through it, mostly because of her sister, someone who had raised her most of her life. She always looked after the young Mali’aheral, always kept her from going astray. But she was missing, and had been after a few years of living here. She was close to leaving that point, as she had nothing to keep her here. But then she found Nariel, her closest friend for most of those ten, long years. She could relate to her in ways she couldn’t with others. She could be herself and not be in some eternal masquerade.

And even that ended in time. She left for a few months to search for more tomes for her collection, and came back to find Nariel gone, Caelria dead, and Nariel’s.... brat strutting through the streets as if he owned the place. She sighed, looking over her shoulder to make sure no one was there. Yet, as she had done many times, no one was there. Looking back over the wall, she frowned. So, after that, she was forced to take up a mask to fit in. And this went on for too long until she finally met someone. She met Aelidar. And for a single fleeting moment, her mask was replaced with him. Hiylu’s lips curled into a happy smile, it slowly turning into a sour frown. But that came and passed like a leaf on the wind.

But she had nothing tying her to this place, not anymore... never again. Standing straight, she turned around and walked away from her perch. Walking down the stairs, she rushed towards the gate. She stopped for a moment, looking up at it. If she passed through this gate, she would leave everything she had behind, her friend, her sister, her lover. But she then reminded herself that those were gone, as this place was little more than a place of false dreams... a fable tried to be made real. And without a second’s more hesitation, she rushed through the gate, leaving Lin’everal behind.

Lin’everal was never her home, and never would be; her home would be what she would make it, not what others deemed proper or right.

So yeah, I'm having Hiylu leave Haelun'or due to me never being able to be on the same time as the high elves and due to me not wanting to be... well, stuck there. I have some big plans for her, don't you worry, and she won't become some impure hooligan with the thoughts of equality of all the races, I promise.
