Clarification On Pvp Default

Greetings, lovely members of Lord of the Craft.

Today I would like to make a rule clarification on PvP default. As many know, the change to PvP default was very recent, and we are still ironing out some wrinkles. However, many people are either uninformed of the protocol that must be followed or are simply ignoring it. I was urged to create this post due to viewing it myself, and I hope I can clarify some of the confusion surrounding this process.

  • Both of you must agree to the type of fighting you're using - PVP or RP fighting. If you can't agree, PVP is default. Before commencing a PVP fight, you must roleplay the leading up to it, and you must also make the other player aware before you attack - e.g. an emote.

The above bullet point is an excerpt from the official rules page of Lord of the Craft. However, many players have been ignoring the "make the other player aware before you attack" part, and they simply say "PvP default" and attack. This is not only against the rules, but it will also get you swiftly banned from the server. I witnessed it happen today at a wedding in Abresi, and I hope that this thread will prevent it from happening again in the future. Both sides must agree to the form of combat used (if they cannot agree then it defaults to fighting with MC mechanics), and both sides must confirm that they are ready. Additionally, a countdown from 5 seconds is required to ensure that each party is aware of when the battle begins. You cannot begin the countdown until both sides have agreed on the form of combat to use and whether they are ready or not.

I hope this clarification will alleviate any confusion that surrounded this topic. Have a great day!

Edit: Another slight clarification: Saying "Mina or die" is not considered sufficient RP. You must roleplay a few lines of text beforehand that lead up to the combat scenario.

I would like to ask whether or not there is still a possibility for the PVP-Default to be reverted back to RP-Default?

As in, what would it take for it to be changed.

Edit: Not asking for it to be changed, simply for what reasons it might be.

I think there would have to be sufficient reason to change it back, at the moment, there isn't. It has gone quite smoothly so far.

Quite smoothly, other than the fact that a large percentage still prefer rp-default.

But that's beside the point.

You didn't quite answer my question though since it's obvious it requires "sufficient reason" I'm just curious as to what that reasoning would have to be.

There would have to be proof that this system causes more player reports and strife than RP default did, but thus far it has not. There are other factors as well.

Ok, thank you for answering my question ;)

Just going to say that I have the right to void the situation since I really don't want to PvP.

If I get banned for that...

Think of it this way, if two people can't agree on a scenario (which is pretty often.) it should come down to the flip of a coin.

The flip of the coin in LoTC is settling the dispute with PVP.

How could two people settle on a role-played outcome when there is so many variables to disagree on?

This is a roleplaying server... why would PVP be default...?

Because RP fights can be very lengthy, and can often end up in OOC conflict. This is especially the case when one party wishes for PvP whilst the other wants RP, because they are generally much more bitter towards each other and, like before, leads to OOC conflict about whether or not an emote is PG etc. PvP default ensures that there's minimal OOC conflict, at least during the fight itself, and there will be no powergaming to cause it.

Also, many people often say "I came to an RP server for RP". If this were the case, there would be no such thing as OOC chat. I personally came to the server to have fun, and OOC conflict and the possibility of powergaming, as well as extremely lengthy battles, even if they do go smoothly, is not fun for me. Also, this doesn't stop you from RPing. It just means that if someone wants to PvP and you don't, they get their way over yours. This will not be the case in a lot situations, because as many have said, a lot of people still prefer to RP.

This is a roleplay server, therefore in a lot of peoples opinion, roleplay SHOULD come first and be default. Why force us to use MC Mechanics on a server dedicated to roleplaying?

Point out where it says that players can void RP.

Think of it this way,

If two people cant decide on RP-Fighting, Roll-Fighting or PvP fighting you think they're going to be able to RP fight without accusing each-other of powergaming or ultimately voiding the rp entirely?

PVP being "default" just means that there is a flip of the coin to fall back to if things can't be decided.

If it was up to me, I'd make "roll-fighting" be default instead - but it'd most likely need a plugin made to work properly.
