How the mines work:

 

  • Each race gets a mine
  • One or two extra mines scattered in the world
  • Mines are "freebuild". You mine inside as much as you want, no region restrictions (besides barriers). 
  • The mines are regened based on a schedule. Once the ores are out, they're gone till the next regen.

 

Positives: 

  • Vanilla mining, finally.
  • Literally cannot bug out.
  • Influx of ore, making things less rare. Both good and bad.

Negatives:

 

  • Influx of ore, making things less rare. Both good and bad.
  • X-ray

 

Feedback, please! What would you like to see changed?

Sugestions to stop x-ray and stripmining, only stone exists, and then you get a drop % for ores to drop. Don't say it would bug, the leaf breaking plugin that exists would have all the code needed to make this.

 

Sugestion for not everyone and their mother being a miner: Make something that makes people pay to get perms.

They're still around. We'll either leave them up, or re-purpose them later. Event locations? Dungeons?

One of the arguments for a plugin-handled mining system is the accumulating burden a worldedit action, especially a regen, places on a world. The lifetime of the map decreases on continuous occurrences. My view is expressed in the hope that the GMs will come up with an alternative to the regen before 4.0 goes live, and preferably as soon as possible.

 

Other than that, this is prolific and I like it.

This has always worried me. It's going to be the people who are on just as everything is spawned in that get almost everything. The mines were released just a couple hours ago and are almost completely dry already. If it's going to be a weekly spawn, these ores will belong to a very restricted group of people.

As they should. Not everyone should have access to materials such as these.

 

The miners will acquire it before anyone else. These miners will probably be part of a military force, and thus guarded while they mine. Then the ore get's placed on the market for other people to buy. Everyone technically has access to getting ore themselves, but in reality it will be hard with all the competition. And that's how it's supposed to be.

I like this a lot. I had more fun creating mine shafts back in Asulon when I needed to mine. Though the other method was more convenient. I think that having a mix of the two would be good, the new mining system be more efficient in terms of output where-as the old mining system would be good for people who don't have much time to mine and just want to peck out a few ores when they pass by the mine.

 

Either way, I like the new system. I missed creating mine shafts.   :3

 

As for X-Ray, I've seen plugins that combat this. Maybe code it so the ore appears as stone until it touches air?

You minimize the problem by only using WorldEdit on areas that are otherwise sparsely used. WorldEdit is fine for building a map before it goes life, for example.

 

Multiverse is much better than regening the main world, but it's not a perfect solution. Deleting the Mulitverse mining world and spawning a new one does not necessarily reset the degree of world corruption. While I can't confirm for myself, overusage of WorldEdit was attested as one of the reasons we had to migrate from Aegis. I have been told that the Aegis GMs eventually stopped regening the mines because of this exact problem.

 

Still, having a pristine world is pointless if we can't use it. I do prefer this solution over malfunctioning plugin-based mines. Mines are part of MINEcraft. However, I do hope the GMs realize that this here is an issue, has been an issue before, and therefore shouldn't be the permanent plan of action.

But, multivariate does help with the problem. It will be a completely separated map this way and allow a bottle necking of any data corruption that may occur. Also world edit has improved and optimized itself in more recent versions, so the world corruption hat was so massively evident two years ago has steadily lowered in occurrence.

 

Aegis is long since gone and past, the team then and the team now are drastically different. The community along with it, mostly for the worse (until now hopefully), but we know the mistakes and history fairly well at this point. All in all, we SHOULD be okay, especially because if the worse does happen and we MUST move once more. We have a larger team of experienced world painters, voxellers, and builders to slap it up there.

 

I mean the Abresi castle was built by one person in the span of a single day, and it wasn't that bad. (loldickcastle)
