To the Holy Mother Church and her Flock,

During the reign of my father, King Alexander I, the role of alchemy within the Kingdom of Balian has grown increasingly under my own brother's reign, King Adrian I. With the increasing growth of Balianese citizenry through immigration and a new generation, and the interest of the alchemical arts rapidly becoming portrayed in everyday occurrences, it pleases myself and the Crown of Balian that our Blessed Holy Church sees the potential in the usage of alchemical practices to rid the realm of darkspawn and those who worship the Pretender.

As Court Alchemist of the Kingdom of Balian, I affirm that my blessed kingdom will pledge to do right by our Holy leaders and use our skills to join in your conquest against the sinful nature of the Vampyric plague. My prior knowledge of the cure of vampyrism will be put to use in assistance with the Holy Mother Church and will be taught routinely to those in apprentice positions.

    May God Guide Us,

Her Royal Highness, Elena Casimira Novellen-de Lyons, The Princess Royal of Balian, Countess of Rosemoor, Baroness of Enderoca, Royal Legate to the Crown of Balian, Court Alchemist of the Palatio Arancione.

With the descendants of the realm settling into these new and wild lands of Aevos, it is only natural that expansion of borders and territories will begin to occur amongst us. As explorations begin and stakes start to be placed atop mountains, it would be only reasonable to consider our neighbors and allies close to us.

With such occurrence, the Kingdom of Balian would like to extend an invitation to the leaders of the South to partake in a summit which will open the conversation of expansion plans and will maintain the respect and understanding each ally and nation has for its fellow southern settlers. It is asked that each invitee will promptly respond at their earliest convenience so that a date and time for the summit may be arranged and set.

INVITATIONS ARE SENT TO THE FOLLOWING NATIONS LEADERS:

    The Cove of Nevaehlan @WestCarolina

    The Crown of Amathine @JJosey

The Silver State of Haelun’or @Iverach

“Have you ever wondered how nature gets its glow?

Who gives it light and color as the seasons come and go?

Who helps all the creatures, great and small, to walk, to swim, to fly?

Who crafts such tiny details? You might see them if you try.

For it's all the work of fairies, but they stay well out of sight.

And the first time that a baby laughs, a fairy’s life takes flight.” ~ W. d’Nee

It was the starry nights and spray of sea salt air which allowed time to feel stagnant over the many months. Pains and aches came and went yet it was the consistency of the air and the sky itself which maintained its repetition. Months of seclusion and worry, followed by the sudden burst of life felt like a shock of cold saltwater mixed with the emotions of joy and love felt like an enigma, although it seemed to be one more consistent fact that remained.

Founded in the capital city of Atrus within the lands of Almaris, Leni’s Tomes & Trinkets is a well-known Balianese shop which contains a vast collection of books which has been accumulated over multiple human lifetimes spanning over all genres and specificities. Located within the capital city of the Kingdom of Balian, Leni’s Tomes & Trinkets can be found off the main square of Portoregne, close to the front gates of the city.

From fiction to scientific works, our collection is very broad while also hosting pieces which could very easily satisfy your specific wants. Every book is for sale, yet some prices may not be listed in order to ensure the quality of the buyer previous to purchase. Each tome tells a story and belongs in an environment which will preserve its tale for more lifetimes to come. The latter part of the store's name does indeed ring true as different baubles and trinkets are put on display for purchase as well. Each trinket will be displayed one at a time to avoid the bloat and hoarding of the unique pieces. This includes the books as well, certain literature only remaining on the shelves for a specific time in order to offer further variety and include specific interest and niches for our patrons.

Within these new and wild lands, the Trinkets section of the shop will soon be flooded with items that will be completely available at a reasonable price as Leni’s Tomes & Trinkets believes adventuring and archaeological finds should be available to everyone. Trinkets, unless collected in large quantities, will be supplied sparsely with no particular order or consistency as their collection is solely based on the quantity upon discovery. Should a patron be interested in a particular trinket, they need only leave a commission slip within the shop’s mailbox and a response will be given promptly.

After many years of mastering the alchemical arts, Leni’s Tomes & Trinkets will now be open to alchemy commissions and will also be supplying basic or random potions and herbs whenever gathered and made during free time. Similarly to the Trinkets section of the shop, there will be no order to what is made, nor what will be supplied as herbs and reagents are often acquired randomly. Should a patron be interested in a specific herb or potion, they are encouraged to leave a commission note within the mailbox located to the left of the shop’s entrance.

Everything which is displayed within the store is for sale, a buyer need only ask or contact the shop owner. Should a buyer fail in their search for a specific book or topic, a letter may be penned to the owner to schedule a meeting where the staff or owner of the store will go on their own search to write or seek out such an item for said patron or customer, the same applying to trinkets as well. Optional services such as these may come at varying prices and will be discussed and set upon meeting.

What magic(s) will you be teaching?

             Alchemy

Describe this magic or a creature as a whole:

At its core, alchemy is a science which focuses on the material alphabet and the processes of extractions through materials gathered. Using the Material Alphabet, alchemists will conduct experiments and extractions through specific elemental processes in order to gather symbols from reagents harvested. From these reagents, concoctions can be made which take on differing forms. These concoctions are the result of the different symbols brewed together and have different purposes and abilities unlike simple cooking methods.

Are there different sections or subsections of magic? Can those be elaborated upon?

There are several subsections within alchemy which are called “Further Alchemy”. These subsections include Talkins Alchemy, where different body parts can be recreated and cover a more flesh-centered craft. Animii Alchemy is a subsection of alchemy where small inventions are tinkered like metal birds that can come to life, typically smaller tinkered creations. Smoggers Alchemy is yet another example of a subsection of alchemy where it is similar to Animii crafting but on a much larger scale. Massive mechanical inventions are created and brought to life. Generally “Further Alchemy” goes beyond potion making and focuses on more life-like inventions and creations.

Can you give an example of a casting emote, of a spell of your choice?

Striking a match, Elena would reach a hand down into the burner beneath her water-filled cauldron, setting it alight and leaving the pot to begin its boil. Making her way over to a separate counter, the alchemist would use a sharpened blade to begin slicing and chopping up the reagents she had gathered for this brew.

Once the reagents were diced into smaller, more malleable pieces for the brewing process, they would be transferred into a mortar where the grinding process would begin, pressing and grinding the remaining pieces of the reagents into a fine paste that would be much more workable. Once scraped free from the mortar and placed into a bottle filled with Aqua Vitae and purified water, they would be transferred into the lab’s kiln, left to boil and become further purified by the flames within.

Taking the time to clean her workstation, Elena would finally hear the familiar crackle of the kiln signalling the completion of the purification. As expected, once the bottles were extracted from the kiln their appearance had changed to depict dust and particles mixed together. Once poured and shifted over a sieve within the lab, the particles and symbols being sought after for the Tanglefoot Potion would appear to be much easier to locate. Growth (x2), Connection (x2), Rigidity (x1) and Curtailment (x3) each presented themselves in different appearances to the Alchemist's eye, although after years of experience they were much easier to identify. As the symbols were plucked up from the sieve, they would then be promptly dropped into the now-boiling cauldron.

While the potion was slowly brewing, the colour of the water would begin its transformation into a thick, sludge-like consistency, green in colour akin to the appearance of toxic waste. With a thick, metal ladle, Elena would give the brew a final mix before ladling the sludge carefully into a thick bottle protected by an outer layer of leather and immediately corking the top, finishing her process.

Can you give an example of a teaching-emote (interacting with another) of a spell of your choice?

Gesturing for her student to step closer to her table, Elena would hold up a bowl full of different herbs she had harvested earlier that day. “Today we will be creating a Luminosity Potion, which is essentially a portable and less flammable oil lamp.” She stated in an attempt to lighten the mood (intentional joke). As her student shuffled to her side, Elena would hand over a spare knife. “We are going to start off with chopping up the herbs. Each herb should be diced into small pieces which will eventually help save your elbows when you need to grind them up in your mortar.” She instructed. “I’ll have you start with the Night Glow.” From the bowl she would place a simple blue flower before her student, the petals curled up as if the plant were hiding its face. “Try your best to not get the oils all over the cutting board. I’ll be cutting up the Aqua Nymph.” Repeating her motions of taking out the small white blossom and placing it on the counter, she’d soon begin cutting up the herb before her, gesturing her student to join in and mimic her motions.

“Something you will come to learn and memorise over time is that these herbs are called Alchemical Reagents and within them are symbols. These symbols are what we extract in order to create the potions we are making.” She began to explain as the two were cutting.

“What symbols are within these herbs. . .or reagents that we need for our potion?” The student quipped up. “Well, for the Luminosity Potion, we will be needing light, endurance and swiftness. We need different herbs because each herb has their own combination and mixture of symbols within them. Night’s Glow has light and swiftness within it while the Aqua Nymph has endurance. They have other symbols within them as well but those three are the ones we will be focussing on today for starters.” The woman promptly explained in response. “Oh, make sure to chop those pieces a bit smaller.” To which the student quickly obliged the instruction.

Once the chopping had concluded, Elena would instruct her student to begin grinding the chapped reagents into a mortar with a pestle. “You’ll want to reach the consistency of a rough paste. Again, the smaller the chunks, the shorter we will need to boil them in the kiln.” As her student followed her instructions, Elena would move to the other end of the lab to set alight the burner beneath her small cauldron, preparing it for a boil. “Does this look fine?” The student called out, pulling Elena back over to that particular side of the lab. “Bravo! Yes, that is a great texture. You’ll need to scrape it out into this bottle here. . .” She’d hand over a simple vial left uncorked. “What we’ll also need to do is add purified water and some Aqua Vitae. That is what will purify the reagents and boil them down into a fine powder for us to rummage through.”

As the student followed the instructions, Elena would observe their movements, encouraging them to safely place the bottles into the kiln. “How long doe sit take for the fire to fully purify the reagents?” The student inquired to which Elene responded, “There will never be an exact time it takes, although something I use as an indication is a crackling or popping sound which generally tells you the kiln is dryer than it was before. It indicates the reagents are boiled and the liquid has fully evaporated.” Sure enough, within several minutes, the kiln did release the identifying sounds, prompting the student to extract the bottles from the kiln. “So now you see that all that is left within the bottles are dust and particles, ai? Within those are your symbols you’ll be wanting to extract. I use a sieve to pour the contents over in order to brush through the dust and it is easier to identify what we are looking for.”

Taking the bottles, Elena would follow her words, dumping out the contents over a sieve which was settled over a waste bin. “It all looks like dust. . .how do you know what you are looking for?” The student inquired, causing a nostalgic smile from the alchemist. “I asked the exact same thing at my first lesson. Here, these will help you see better.” She’d hand over a rather thick magnifying glass. “The symbols will present themselves to you in different ways. You may not even be able to see them currently as it is your first lesson, but just try to look for something out of the ordinary. Something that does not belong amongst the dust.” She tried her best to explain as she gently brushed the dust through the sieve, encouraging the student to take a look. “The symbols we are looking for are Light, Endurance and Swiftness so try to spot particles that match those characteristics.”

The lab was quiet for several minutes as Elena allowed the student time to explore the contents of the particles. Using a pair of tweezers, Elena would pluck up the particles that the student identified, some were simply dust and others were correctly identified as a symbol but not the exact symbol needed. Each symbol that was identified, Elena would name and explain its purpose within the potion. “What do you do with the leftovers or extra symbols from the reagents?” The student would ask as Elena would pluck up one particle of each symbol required for the Luminosity potion (Light x1, Endurance x1, Swiftness x1). “You can discard them or store them for later. If I am in a rush I will discard them but when I have time I will store them in a dark cabinet in a jar.” Her free hand gestured to her barrel-lined wall. “Do you have a favourite colour?” She questioned the student as she began dropping the symbols within the now-boiling water.

“Oh-! Uhm. . .green?” The student stumbled out, watching their teacher dump in the symbols and hand them a ladle. “Start stirring and I will grab some dye. With this potion, if you add a few drops of dye, the light that it gives off will be the colour of the dye you put in! Just a few drops though, nothing excessive.” She explained, taking a tiny vial to drop some dark green liquid into the boiling cauldron while the student stirred. “And how long do I need to stir for?” They asked, becoming more free with their inquiries. “You will need to find the sweet spot. Again, there is no exact time, you just need to figure out how long is too long or too short. For this potion, I would say until your arm starts to get a bit of that tired feeling.” She explained. While the stirring was conducted by the student, Elena would quickly begin cleaning up the lab, making sure the workplace was clear of any dangerous materials.

“Elena, my arm is starting to hurt.” The student piped up just as the teacher finished her cleaning. “We’ll need to work on that arm strength then.” She jested, grinning as she picked up a spare bottle, gesturing for the student to begin ladling the cauldron’s liquid into it. “I would say this was quite a successful brew.” She commented, corking the bottle and handing it over to the student. “Give it a little shake, will you?” She gestured once more, pleased to see the student following her instruction and shaking the liquid-filled bottle which would result in a bright green glow from within. “You have successfully made your first potion and a great light to help you get home.” She said, glancing over and realising that the sun had already set during their lesson. “Great job and next lesson we will work on identifying the symbols a bit more.”

Say your student powergames during or after teaching, how do you reprimand that?

I will be using a three strike system in regards to my students and powergaming. Should a student of mine powergame for the first time, I would stop the lesson and explain to them in depth exactly how they powergamed and how to fix their mistake. I’d then have them start the task from the beginning once more so I know that they have a full understanding of how to complete said task properly without powergaming. Should my student powergame for a second time I would stop the lesson and explain once more how their actions are powergaming and what they need to do to fix their emotes and actions. I would not continue with the lesson and would give them time to take in their mistake so that the next lesson they will be able to complete the task properly without powergaming. Finally, if my student powergames a for a third time I will be dropping them as a student.

  8. Standing on the docks of the Balianese capital harbour, the Princess Royal's arm would ache after many minutes of waving to her sister in farewell as her ship soon began to disappear into the horizon. Tears would stream down her face as she came to accept her sister's departure, as difficult as it may be for her. Memories of a young child squirming within her arms would flash through Elena's mind, recalling the days of being granted the blessing of becoming an older sibling and knowing she would grow to be as proud of her little Lydia as she was the day she departed for lands beyond.

  10. Upon the discovery of her newly granted divorce gone public, Adelajda vas Ruthern would exit her room for the first time in years in search of her childhood best friend and sister in law, a bright smile beaming upon her face. This happiness, however, did not last as she was met with a loss she had not sought out.

  11. As the newly printed paper would come across the desk of the Legate’s Office, Princess Elena’s brow would furrow upon final inspection. “A bit crude of a paper to insult our allies and spread misinformation.” Muttered the Princess Royal before offering her own concluding remarks. “My mother would be disappointed someone would use her signature animal for such a publication.”

It is with great happiness that the Crown announces the engagement of the Princess Royal Elena Casimira and Segnor Robyn de Lyons to be wed. An innocent friendship between youths quickly blossomed into a strong love which has endured tragedy and has crossed continents, only now to be joined in holy matrimony. For years the couple has worked in service to the Crown and Kingdom and now the same will soon continue with the two united as man and wife.

    THE NUPTIAL CEREMONY

The official wedding ceremony will be open to the public citizens of Balian and the allies of the Kingdom. Held directly outside of the capital, an island discovered to host a looking glass pool akin to the blessed Waters of Gamesh was discovered by the engaged couple upon their first excursions into these strange and uncharted lands which would eventually grow into the capital of Potoregne.

Conducted by His Eminence, Teodosio Cardinal Tyria, the ceremony will take place upon the Isle de la Esten. Following the ceremony, celebrations will be held in the ballroom of the Palatio Arancione where food, drinks and further merriment will take place.

  14. I feel like I have been very lucky during my time on LOTC with the characters I’ve played and the opportunities I’ve had. I’ve been able to play a Queen, noble Peer (briefly), and now Princess Royal which has been a long-time dream which I’m so happy I have that opportunity. As for what might be next, I’d love to get into Druidism or maybe dark magic one day with different characters. I might also someday want to be a noble Peer once more and possible have a second shot at being Queen. Time will tell I suppose! :))

  15. It would be late in the evening when the Princess Royal would receive the invitation, expressions of surprise and confusion crossing over the Novellen’s features. Quickly, Elena would pocket the parchment, assuring no one in the Monterosa Palace had seen the identifiable seal. . .

[!] A sketch of the Princess Royal’s stolen busts.

On this day, 13th of Godfrey’s Triumph in the year of our lord 55 BA, a most serious offence to the crown and the Royal Family was discovered. The Princess Royal, Elena Casimira, had returned to her rooms after a long and arduous diplomatic journey to find that the door to her Royal apartments had been broken down, shattering wood littering the surrounding area. To the shock of her and her guards, the destruction continued into her rooms and up the stairs to her sleeping chambers.

Upon inspection, broken glass and wood were found at the closet door of the Princess’s apartment and two busts were missing from her collection. A display case was shattered yet the only busts which were taken were those depicting the Imperatrix Tiara and the Rosemoor Crown. Let it be known that each bust was created and carefully crafted to mimic the Princess’s likeness with a piece of jewellery carved into it, primarily pieces she is most fond of.

    INCIDENT REPORT

    LOCATION:

    The Palatio Monterosa

    Second Floor

The Chambers of the Princess Royal

    DATE: 13 of Godfrey’s Triumph 55 BA

    CRIME SCENE:

    Broken Front Door

    Shattered Wood on the Floor

    Broken Glass from Display Case

    Broken Closet Door

    MISSING ITEMS:

A Bust Depicting Princess Elena Wearing the Imperatrix Tiara

A Bust Depicting Princess Elena Wearing the Rosemoor Crown

    SUSPECTS: TBD

Let it be known that although Princess Elena’s personal collection of busts were disrusted and stolen from, nothing of import was stolen from the chambers of Her Royal Highness. The tiaras, which were carved and depicted on the busts were simple, coloured marble pieces. The true relics remain in the royal vault safe and untouched by treasonous individuals who may wish to pluck them for the taking.

This being said, Her Royal  Highness wishes that those reading this who did partake in the heist of her chambers do enjoy the busts bearing her likeness. She hopes that they serve as a reminder of their youths and they display them proudly within their homes, for those who enter will recognise their host as a petty thief.

    May God watch over you.

  17. It was unlike any feeling she had ever felt before, the feeling of grief. Surely the Princess Royal had felt loss, yet nothing compared to the loss of a parent, especially one you are fond of. And so, as Princess Elena sat at the bedside of the now deceased King of Balian @Shmeepicus, she had to use her prodigal brain once more to understand and recognise the pain she finally felt.

For now, as she released the cold hand of her dead father, the young Novellen would contemplate her next move, a trip perhaps to visit old friends. For one thing was certain, she was not prepared to deal with such an emotional occurrence as this. . .

    Spoiler

Thank you @Shmeepicusfor giving me the opportunity to play your daughter!! It has been a pleasure so enjoy your long deserved break!
