RP fights are bad when one party is forced. PvP default actually improves the quality of RP fights, because that way nobody is forced into them and only consensual RP fights occur.
PVP default is a great way to keep players in line. Those frustrated players will think twice about powergaming, unless they intend to get PVPed instead of following rules.
