I think where Void Magic is at now is fine but it's the overall attitude of most mages that has drastically changed and I do not think much will fix that outside of pulling a rug and nobody really wants that. Only thing I could see would be minor changes to dissuade the CRP attitude like amendments to make purely combative lore for voidal magic to take up multiple slots, or something. Right now, it's like every mage feels like we should fill all 5 slots else we're behind or something stupid even though it should be fully about using the lore to theme your character and bring a magical whimsical flavor to roleplay.

[✗] [Amendment] Transfiguration (Abjuration)
Cat Evocation replied to Animael's topic in Denied Lore
This feels like a powercreep. Why don't we start spinning magic into less CRP coded uses we have *PLENTY* of Void Magic for DEFENSE and OFFENSE - Transfiguration doesn't need stuff like this. If you want to make it something "Worth two slots" or whatever - Maybe focus on adding more creative freedom for making incredible cool things that create more narrative than combat. COMBAT ISN'T A GOOD NARRATIVE. -
oh my god a void magic with almost zero combat spells?? In THIS economy???

Founded in 193 SE The College of Redquill was established with a single goal in mind. To spread the proper concept of Magic & Alchemy and ensure safe practice and validation through all cultures. The college will be better known for its quality over quantity - not everyone will be accepted to enroll for classes and those who do will be taught from their apprenticeship to full mastery of their magic. “Via ad astra.” The way to the stars What we Offer: Proper studies onwards to Mastery of your respective art - This will be an intuitive 16-year course for Magic or Alchemy that guides students from beginning to Mastery. These are our SEATED Classes, and our Seated Students are granted access to the institution doors. Open studies and Classes for the public to learn about Magic, Alchemy, Herbs and many other subjects. These are our OPEN Classes open to the public. Those who attend our public classes are not considered students, but all are welcome to come and learn! An institution in Chambery that provides a safe space to learn and practice one's magic, alchemy and craft following local laws and regulations. Said institution is open to our Seated Students and boasts a Grand Library! Standardized tests to ensure that lessons provided are being retained and ensure quality of studentry. You are not required to have citizenship in the Kingdom of Petra or Chambery to enroll, meaning you are not required to move your life to attend your classes so long as you respect local law and customs. Who are we looking for: Individuals who are new to magic with no prior experience ready to dedicate sixteen years to the craft. They must be 18 years or older to enroll. We take all the races that can practice. This is not an elvish institution, and we encourage Humans and Adunians to take part. Interested in Teaching? We are looking for Professors who are willing to take on their very own class with no restrictions on how it's taught so long it follows the College Standards. The Pillars of Redquill Thou shalt not harm descendants with your found skill unless it is in direct defense to yourself or the college during your time in Redquill. Thou shalt not delve deep into the deep depths of the Void. We do not condone the practice of opening tears or interacting with the eldritch. Thou shalt not taint your repertoire with dark knowledge that goes against descendant kind nor associate with those who do. Thou shalt respect their fellow student and professor. Petty squabbles will not be tolerated. To break any of these pillars will result in expulsion and blacklist from the Academy which can only be repealed by the Headmaster. To break local laws is to be handed over to local authority. How does this all work? The system will be built off one person's potential to teach. There will be Professors and Students. Professors are individuals who can host at the very least 3 students up to as many as they can handle. This body of students belonging to them will be their Class. Each class’s lessons are up to the Professor who runs it and the theme and name is up to the Professor's discretion as well so long it falls within the pillars of the college. Students will be taught magic in full. So long they show up for each lesson and stay for the full class they will be taught to Mastery through the college and once graduated they are free to leave. We don’t require students to stay in Chambery outside of their lessons nor do we require them to fight in wars or swear fealty. Students simply must show up for their lessons and follow the pillars until they graduate. We are a College through and through. Interested in joining? - Check out our Class Listings! Professors will individually interview and approve prospective students and accept them unto the College. ((Our Roleplay in-character listing for classes are on our discord! CRP Default, Consented Conflict, and the future of conflict
Cat Evocation replied to PCSwift's topic in Debate
Ultimately, we won't ever agree then. But that leads to another big problem LOTC has where it caters both to the "Extreme" (you) and "Casual" (me) sides of roleplay. These weird archaic rules where you die you come back but they're oddly balanced, yet you can go around and do extreme changes to people's characters like limb removal and the like. They refuse to pick one or the other and it leads to constant back and forth like this and ultimately broils a lot of toxicity with each other with two majorly conflicting crowds of roleplayers. I understand your point and logic. I am sure you could understand mine. I suppose I wish lotc would stop playing middleman and correctly advertise the type of RP it wants to cater to. Til then, we shall agree to disagree. Despite that I still hope you have a good day and dont wish you any ill will! -
CRP Default, Consented Conflict, and the future of conflict

"I'd rather be dead than do cooperative roleplay with other players on this server." What an insane concept I know. Must be really hard to grasp being on lotc so long. -
CRP Default, Consented Conflict, and the future of conflict
Cat Evocation replied to PCSwift's topic in Debate
I think it's crazy that you can go and cause conflict / combat roleplay with other parties without talking to them about it just out of the blue. It leads to constant nonstop arguments because why should one side or the other let the other win when clearly, they didn't agree to the RP in the first place? Yet when we have two parties, even up to 50+ players, all agree to conflict and the rules beforehand excited to write out some sort of narrative. The bickering and ooc complaints are always at a minimum. Maybe the problem isn't what we use to resolve conflicts. It's the fact we fail to talk to each other and consent with one another on pushing conflict narratives. -
"Warmongers not unlike the Uruk of old. Pick on smaller nations and force them to bend an arm to hand over resources and coin to fuel the war machine. One day they will mess with the wrong nation they thought too small to defend themselves." Said a particular masked wandering wizard.

[✗] [Magic Lore] Tahariae's Arbiters of Purity
Cat Evocation replied to 𝑓𝑖𝑙𝑖𝑎𝑙𝑠's topic in Denied Lore
A neat spell. Unique in its way doesn't act as a projectile. Perhaps indicate that the pillar of light doesn't move or follow its target just to clear up any confusion on it. Love the self-sacrificing of this and the clarification that they need to take the hit can't just block it either. Again a unique spell that fits the lore. This is a crazy quicker slightly smaller water wave spell right from Water Evocation. It does the exact same thing as water evocation's water wave. If you ask me, I think you should wholly replace the spell entirely or make it focus on one single target and not be a 2 wide spell. I would also put in that the stag has to start where the caster is. From what I'm reading, it can be conjured anywhere 20m Infront of the caster. If I remade the spell. It'd be a stag that singles out one individual and charges straight for them with the intention of either toppling them or causing them to stumble. Requiring 1 emote of recovery after, the stag vanishing after it hits it mark not dragging anyone back. I'd also give it a range of 8 meters per emote, requiring focus on it til it meets its target. Perhaps also make it so it could be countered by bracing if perhaps they've experienced the spell before and know its coming, or if they're outside the range but in the next emote will be they can brace and not be toppled. A cool take on some old Arcanism spells that used to exist. Perhaps give it a size limit? Anything larger than X needs an additional emote or something. Anti magic is really, really weird. This would be the ONLY iteration of anti-magic that can affect any kind of magic on the server. I think you should consider how insane that is. And its 2 emotes to cast. 2 Emotes. I think you should consider a different way to handle this. Or just don't have a shield at all. See above statement about antimagic. I think this is a bit of spell bloat in general. You already have a shield. Why do you need a wall? Plenty of other magics do this. I feel as this is a bit OP for how many emotes it is and how little grace it takes. Seems like a get out of dodge free AOE card with CRAZY range. Lower the range to be more immediate around. Get rid of the weird increased range on the horse. Make this cost a lot more grace. If its going to be a "I'm surrounded and I need to get out of here" it should be a last resort type of spell that takes maybe 10 grace. Again. Anti magic. But its just Air Dome. Air Dome already does this well. Getting rid of this spell out right will help with your spell boat. A note about the shield spells in general: If you really need this go engage with void mages and convince one (who isn't a Scion or a Void Stalker) to join the clerics on their plight! You know how crazy stupidly awesome it would be to engage other type of lore players? Get me some Arbiters who have a dedicated mage to help pick up their lack in range and defense. I'd love to see a Tah worshipping Voidal Mage who helps the Arbiters. Anyways, these are my two cents about these spells. I'm not touching healing magic. I like me healing magic. We need a good healing magic. If I had my way there would be several ways to resurrect characters from the dead instead of the monks, yknow. Crazy cool player engagement. -
[✗] [Magic Lore] Tahariae's Arbiters of Purity
Cat Evocation replied to 𝑓𝑖𝑙𝑖𝑎𝑙𝑠's topic in Denied Lore
Where as the first submission is really lackluster this one is so, so extremely CRP coded its insane. This is like several existing lore magics combat spells mixed together with anti magic thrown in the mix. This is CRAZY. Oh my god. I'd hate having to CRP one of these Arbiters. -
Bit confused cause I'm pretty sure the majority said both are fine as is. Wanted to chip in another penny into the pile. I think petty theft is absolutely bonkers to be allowed because it introduces the following: -ZERO ROLEPLAY INTERACTION -UNNEEDED THEFT OF MINECRAFT ITEMS Which is odd to think about because, like, I thought we are following good faith roleplay standards? Oh, and if we're on the topic. The fact people can just /breakdown doors and windows without anyone present (ESPECIALLY WINDOWS MY GOD ITS PRACTICALLY GRIEFING) is crazy. It just allows people to get through stuff when nobody is around to notice at 1-3am to find Lore constructs that they may think are in an area to later practically metagame it for a heist. Or, Yknow, break it while people are offline. I'm starting to get a feeling that theres some flaws in our concept of "Good Faith"?

[✗] [Amendments] Voidal Magic - Winter Decorations 3
Cat Evocation replied to PrimnyaQuorum's topic in Denied Lore
This resonates so hard. So many problems are not lore problems or writing problems. It's a player base and lack of moderation problem. Bad faith roleplay is so abundant in CRP of any kind it's insane. It makes people think there's problems with lore like this amendment for brisk step for example when there isn't. -
Last time I checked Void Magic is not classified as dark? Seems a bit odd. Void Stalkers and Scions have tainted souls maybe classify it by tainted souls? Voidal Magic users do not I think you might have it mixed. A lot of this lore seems a bit.. Lackluster overall? I feel like you could put more into this and make it a really good holy magic again.

[✗] [Voidal Connection] Spell Point Amendment
Cat Evocation replied to BakedPotato's topic in Denied Lore
Exactly this. This amendment is absolutely unneeded and even then your math for spell points is very odd. Extremely rarely is there an instance of mages powergaming their mana. If anything I've had more problems with mages just not understanding how their spells work. Overall its unneeded and this just looks rushed and not fully thought through. -
“He spoke of all and granted those who would listen the wisdom that would guide them to fulfillment. By the rise of the Grand Empires of the Four Brothers, the Wandering Wizard was of high renown across its denizens. The strange figure who wore tattered cloth and rag, yet toted staves of gold and books laid with precious materials, knew of many things and brought amazement to those that followed his travels.” -Tales of the Wandering Wizard (https://www.artstation.com/kristmiha) The Way of an Itinerant Mage: Those who desire to follow in the footsteps of the Wandering Wizard consider themselves an Itinerant Mage. Magic is not to be hoarded and kept locked away to help only a small few. It’s a powerful force founded for the purpose of descendants being able to aid others in times of strife. An Itinerant Mage follows a nomadic way of life in the pursuit of spreading their knowledge to the far reaches of the realm. Dedicate oneself not to one sole place. The world is vast and ripe for exploration. Offer help to those who need it. They let no race nor creed stop them when they can lend a hand with the Arcane. They are the representatives of mages alike. Itinerant mages would be respectful where they can and not lay destruction where they walk. Voidal Magic should only be used for protection of oneself or others. To focus on the destructive potency of it is to stray from their path. They are one of the few with the power to not only make an effort in the world but also protect the veil where it needs most. Ensure its integrity. Total dedication to their craft; Itinerant Mages are often too invested in the Void to study other forms of magic. To break this way of life is to bring shame upon oneself. One may live and thrive in a nation they call home, but it's important to wander the realm and be available to guide where you can. Cultural Attire of an Itinerant Mage: A mage following the footsteps of the Wandering Wizard would do their best to be an utmost representative of a mage’s fashion. Often to dictate their dedication to the craft, they would wear the following: A mage hat of their choice. A wide brimmed hat with a point at the tip is a sole indication of their craft. They customize it with the color that best represents them, as well as adding fun little baubles if they wish to. A fine garment, color coded to their choice. They would ensure its fit for the road and visits across the land: From the courts of kingdoms of man to the forests of Malin. The outfit should be unique and represent the individual. No Itinerant Mage is ready without their Arch-Staff. They always ensure the staff is in well working condition and ready to aid them along the road, serving both as their walking stick and implement for casting. The Rite of Apprenticeship: A follower of the Itinerant Ways doesn’t casually take on an apprentice. Instead, it’s a lifelong commitment—a dedication to passing down the profound knowledge of the Arcane. Choosing an apprentice is a weighty decision, not to be taken lightly. Under the careful guidance of the mentor, the apprentice is sculpted into an exceptional mage. The mentor imparts not only knowledge from one school of magic, but also everything that complements the apprentice’s unique repertoire. The apprentice becomes their burden and responsibility, assigning them with trials and tasks tailored to their lessons. The Apprentice must grasp not only the potency of Void magic but also the peril it poses to the world, along with the consequences that follow when magic is misused. (https://flare3103.artstation.com/) “You take for yourself the title of Wizard, and so I will not suffer you to claim ignorance. You know as well as any of the existence of the monstrosities of the void. As the power of the void waxes, the barrier between it and our own world wanes. Eventually, that barrier will falter, and the voidgate will open. Once it has, only the destructive magic of eld can reseal it.” -An ancient war wizard Unlike their benevolent counterparts, these sorcerers wield the Void not as a tool for enlightenment, but as a weapon against darkness. The Masked Itinerants harbor no illusions about their role. Their purpose is singular: to eradicate monstrosities, malevolent beings, and those who threaten innocent lives. They view magic as a means to an end—a necessary force to maintain balance. Unlike traditional Itinerant Mages, who guide and uplift, the Masked Wanderers embrace their jaded path. They recognize that sometimes creation requires destruction, and salvation demands sacrifice. The Veil of Masks: Clad in concealing masks, these mages move through the world. Their faces remain hidden, shrouded in secrecy. Some say it’s a tactical choice—an advantage in the field of battle. Others believe it’s a mark of shame, a way to hide from divine judgment. The masks serve another purpose: they shield the Masked Itinerants from the prying eyes of celestial beings—the Aengul, the creator, and other cosmic entities. These mages bear the weight of their deeds alone, without divine scrutiny from their personal beliefs. Destruction as Duty: The Masked Wanderers wield magic with ruthless precision. Their spells are honed for combat, designed to dismantle evil. They don’t hesitate to unleash destructive forces upon their foes. They carry the burden of ending lives, knowing that their actions serve a greater purpose. Straying from the original Path: Among the Itinerant Mages, opinions on the Masked Wanderers diverge. Some see them as fallen brethren—once seekers of enlightenment who lost their way. Others, however, recognize the necessity of the Masked Itinerants. They view them as guardians of the fragile balance—a grim but essential force in a world teetering on the edge. OOC Note: Wrote this piece during a moment of inspiration talking to @Deer__ about the wandering wizard. I wanted to make a piece of culture that is entirely optional for mages to use to build their characters off and I wanted to make one that had two sides to the same coin. Feel free to use this culture for your own characters! I'd love to see more wandering mages going around the world and making their mark and I hope perhaps this will help others be inspired to write cultures for Voidal Magic that can be picked up by anyone or even for their own special groups. Big thanks to @Vaynth and @ZenNex23 for their help writing this piece.
