THE REICHWALD GREATSWORDS Sergeant Klaus von Krieger is in search of able-bodied and mature Waldenian men to join a superb Regiment of Renown, a Company of Cynosure, the Reichwald Greatswords. You must be at least the age of five-and-twenty and have prior experience in a military or guard force. Members must be human and male, and are required to have either a large, waxed moustache or a beard. Waldenian men are prefered but other lesser cultures are accepted. Volunteers must be in good health and know how to fight, swindle, or bully their way out of stressful situations. Gambling, drinking and whoring is permitted while not on sentry. You must be comfortable living in tents like real soldiers, instead of a comfortable, prissy fort or castle that gets abandoned after a few years of inactivity. The Reichwald Greatswords is an elite mercenary free company that distinguishes itself by its soldiers' skill with greatswords such as the Zweihander or Flamberge. Contracts and bounties may be offered by political leaders, nobility, the Church, or wealthy individuals who require protection or soldiers at their disposal. Half of the contract's agreed upon payment will be given to each soldier up front, the other half given after the contract is complete - unless a full-time arrangement is made with the contractor. Upon joining the company, a new member will undergo two months of initiation and re-familiarization with basic soldiering skills, camp routine, and the use and maintenance of various weapons and equipment. During this phase, the member will wear the same general outfit as the other senior men, but will not have the privilege of wearing a hat badge or feathers on his tellerbarett - the standard beret-like hat of the company. After the new member's indoctrination phase is complete, he will then be given the honour of wearing a hat badge and feathers, and will also be given his first greatsword, which he will train with until the day he retires or dies. At this point, the member shall be welcomed into the company as a Doppelsöldner, an official member of the Reichwald Greatswords. OOC INFORMATION Wikipedia Link: https://wikia.lordofthecraft.net/index.php?title=The_Reichwald_Greatswords Due to how busy I often am, the application process will mostly be done via skype or in PMs here on the forums until I find someone willing to help me out with recruitment. But please feel free to submit applications, comments or RP below if you don't wanna use skype or discord, or need to up your post count - I'll definitely read them and reply for the first few days! -Skype is Mullraugh -Discord is Mullraugh#9233 If you're wanting to join this, I highly recommend that you create a new character that fits the requirements set in the in-character portion of this thread there's no need to ACTUALLY have experience in other armies or guilds on the server, so long as you just RP that you do. If you do this, I will be happy to create a custom head for your character and even add some personal flair to your uniform and skin upon request, so long as it looks and feels similar to the rest of the uniforms. My goal is to have everyone look generally the same, but actually have no two skins alike uniform-wise; much like I did with the Switzers. The inspiration for this Company draws from both 15th-16th century German Landsknecht mercenaries and the Warhammer Fantasy universe (though I don't know much about it), especially the uniforms. If you're interested in either of these, this is a good place to be! The primary goal of this group is to provide high-quality, fun and enjoyable military-style roleplay with camp routine and even a bit of real life personal development classes, such as simple map-and-compass navigation and such. When there's no RP around, I plan on taking you fellows out into the woods and stuff to do basic soldiering skill exercises and, of course, Roleplay and PVP combat training! I hope to see this group succeed a bit better than my other attempts at mercenary companies - if you think you have some great mineman leadership skills and administration skills, I'd be happy to place you up in the ranks so long as you perform! Here's some screenshots and photos of the uniforms that we'll be wearing. APPLICATION OOC Username: How active are you usually?: You ok with using Skype?: IC Name: Age: Race and Culture: Gender: Social Status: Military History: Thanks folks, Mullraugh.

Why's it called Atlas? Literally the only world so far that doesn't start with an A is Vailor. We got Aeigis, Asulon, Anthos, Athera, Vailor, Axios and now Atlas.

Thierry Neuvic playing Claude Ravache in Sherlock Holmes 2: Ernst Cromwell. Kevin McNally with a beard after playing Mister Gibbs in Pirates of the Caribbean: Garman Hobbes Heath Ledger in Knight's Tale: Ser Florent Jorrel, the SHRIMP KNIGHT Sean Connery with a Moustache: Mister Hobbes Sir Patrick Stewart: Mister Schmick Kristofer Hivju from Game of Thrones (a little cliche, yeah.): Klaus von Krieger In conclusion: I have a lot of heckin' characters.

Though I agree to an extent, I believe that Culture should be a part of a player's character card, because there are things that simply cannot be roleplayed all that well - either due to inexperience on the person's behalf, or just general difficulty. Things like accents, etiquette, verbal patterns, and such are difficult to effectively roleplay unless you spend minutes writing a large block of text for each action your character takes. While this is encouraged, most people don't put in the effort, or simply mess things up. Adding a culture to your character card would simply help others get to know your character a little better and fill in the gap that's left due to lack of effort or poor RP.

This is a proposal submission to remove the three human races that are Heartlander, Highlander and Farfolk. Though they work adequately, I feel that more of an emphasis on your character's culture and ethnicity should be placed on a player so that they can have a more well-rounded and realistic character to work with. If this lore submission is not accepted, let it still stand as an accurate categorization for future reference. After some consideration I feel that you can place the human cultures and ethnicities into three main categories. I've taken to calling these "Suthroners, Northerners and Farfolk," since Farfolk still works quite well as a name. The "???" represents an IRL culture that either has no LotC equivalent or I just don't know the name of it. Please input your knowledge if applicable! Suthroners: (Western European Cultures) ??? - English, Welsh, Irish Auvergnian - French, Swiss, I daresay Flemish Daelish - Celts, Scots Waldenian - German, Austrian, Swiss, Bavarian, etc Almannir - Rhineland Haense (Teutons) - Prussian Cordobonese - Spanish, Portugese Illatian - Italian Northerners: (Eastern European Cultures) Raevir/Ruskan - Russian, Ukrainian, Estonian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Belorussian, Pasnian - Polish Carnatian - Slovakian, Czechnian? ??? - Norse Lodenlander - Dutch ??? - Swedish, Finnish Suthron-Farfolk (Mediterranean) Akritian - Greek Hulphonite - Israeli (loosely) Farfolk (Middle-Eastern, African and Asian Cultures) Qalasheen - Arabian Easterner - Asian Turkins - Turkish Ottoman ??? - Indian ??? - African Azghari/Subudai - Mongols, Huns

(OOC:) MC Name: Harold of Duppendale IGN: Mullraugh Age: 47 Race: Human, Southerner. Weapon of choice: Hand and a Half Sword Reason for serving: I've lived a long life somewhat blind to the mercy of GOD. Though I attended Mass and went to church like any other good canonist, it was more of a chore rather than a lifestyle. I had soon fallen into sacrilege and sin, and it was GOD's mercy and grace that guided me back to the righteous path of the faith. I have repented for my sins and have paid penance for them, but their weight still burdens my shoulders, and I feel only service to God can relieve it. It's been said that a man's piety grows stronger as he ages; I've never believed it until now. Please provide a brief description of what your character would do if he were to be attacked by two axemen on either side: The manoeuvre would have to be rash and quick-witted lest I be cut down by the axemen while thinking of a more calculated approach. Adopting a defensive high guard would leave my midsection prone to attack and surely they would both swing for it. A ruse to focus their energy. While they swing, I would move at the first sign of attack and dash to the left flank of the axeman on the right. It would have to be swift and seamless, and once It was accomplished, a downward swing from the high guard should neutralize the first threat midway through the recovery of his first swing. The axeman on the left would surely be taken aghast by the manoeuvre or the sight of his comrade falling, and either flee or find the courage to press on. In the case of the latter, a defensive posture would be taken and a simple parry would surely suffice in disposing of the threat, leaving him stunned for enough time to be ran through or apprehended. Skype: Mullraugh I've posted an application like this one in the "How to Serve or Join the Church" thread, but found this to be more formal and direct. -
How to Serve or Join the Church

APPLICATION IC Name: Harold of Duppendale Race: Human Service: Holy Knight Why do you wish to assist the Church?: Penance has been done for GOD to forgive my sins, but the weight of them - forgiven or not - is too much. I must dedicate the rest of my life to GOD in order to have a clear conscience and to live each day in his light so that I may be given eternal life in the Seven Skies. Melee weapons will still be the #1 choice despite if there's primitive firearms or not. I can guarantee that raiders are still just gonna run around swinging swords much like they do now, because the addition of firearms will be no different than having bows or crossbows. They'll be used a lot at the beginning, then people will once again opt for melee weapons 'cause they're downright better in every way. The matchlock age and the Industrial Revolution are literally 3-4 centuries apart from each other. And having a preloaded matchlock isn't overpowered or unfair in any way, because if you read the thread, it states that the shooter must first prime the pan with powder, then light the wick and place it into the hammer before they fire. In terms of RP messages and time consumed before firing, this takes just as long, if not longer than firing a crossbow.
-
The weapon may be pre-loaded, but as stated in the post, the pan has to be prepped and filled with powder and the wick has to be ignited and placed into the hammer before you even think of firing the weapon. In terms of RP messages and time consumed to be able to fire the weapon, this takes longer than using a crossbow - and that's with the weapon already loaded.
-
That honestly sums up what they are. Reskinned crossbows that require more RP messages to use.
-
Y'all are blowing this WAAAYYY out of proportion, if I may say so. Bows and Crossbows will still be better in every way than these clunky, hard to use matchlocks. What's the difference between a crossbow and a matchlock musket in the way that this lore has described it? Crossbow: Loads faster, fires in the rain, silent, arguably more distance. (A brown bess musket can't hit accurately further than 50 yards, and that's a weapon that was used in the late 1700s, compared to this primitive, caveman musket.) Matchlock Musket: Slow to load - over twice as long in terms of RP messages, can't fire in the rain, loud as heck, shoddy accuracy, harder to use, requires more materials to load - rather than just a simple bolt, probably won't hit anything over 35 yards away unless there's a group of you lined up, etc. Honestly it changes absolutely nothing for the server aside from slight immersion issues and time-period troubles. If we can have moon-rune cannons and dudes can throw fireballs, why can't we normal folk have cruddy, faulty boomsticks? It won't change PVP or RP melee combat any more than a bow or a crossbow would. On top of that, if you were to fix a bayonet on the matchlock, they were actually plug-type bayonets back then - which means the bayonet lug went INSIDE of the muzzle and turned the weapon into a short spear-type weapon and you couldn't fire it.

This post is strictly matchlock technology, no flintlocks.

I am glad this issue is being addressed. I find myself teetering on both sides of this argument, though. I am happy that the staff are wanting to remove or edit the instant-message system to add a more realistic way of sending letters and such. It doesn't necessarily have to be birds - though back then that would've been the fastest way to send a message. I'd like to see some way of intercepting a message and being able to read it or even edit it before sending it off to its original recipient. Perhaps it could even be a skill in which the more XP you have for it, the less obvious it is that your letter was tampered with or intercepted. This would make for some good villain/spy RP. To address the metagaming through Skype. I have always been against people screaming in third party chats for people to rally and fight, but sometimes it's actually the most realistic thing to do. People complain about guards metagaming and swarming them after beating up a single soldier in GenericCity#1. But you have to think of this realistically. You enter a city - a bastion of modern society with its own guard force and civilians going about their days. If you, a single person, decide that you can kill or attack a guard or a soldier on duty, surely you have to expect that either other guards will see this and attempt to help their comrade, or that a civilian will scamper off and alert them. You're not Conan the Barbarian or Captain America or Hafthor Bjornsson from Game of Thrones who can take on an entire city by yourself. That being said, I agree that the metagaming through third party chats or even in-game messages needs to stop. But there HAS to be some way of alerting guards or soldiers in a CITY or TOWN that there's a scrap going down. Outside of a city, it makes sense that nobody would know unless you're an idiot and attack someone on a main road.
