  1. "I cannot recall a period in recent history when the Diocese of Lotharia has not been attended by a Cardinal," John II muttered as he read the bull. "They strip Ivan, a pious and hardworking man of the faith and people, of his post. This, in spite of the fact that ours is one of the most populous Dioceses of the human realms. One that wishes to strengthen ties with the Church." The King's concern was great, and he felt a sharp sense of disappointment linger at the back of his mind. "I cannot help but wonder if there was an ulterior motive to all of this..." He said to himself, left to contemplate these developments.
  2. "Let it be known far and across the realms of men, these brigands' days are numbered," John II declared, returning south alongside his wife after meeting with the wounded Countess. @MapleSunflower
  3. This is a fun one to consider. I'm going to choose two of my characters, one I currently play and one I previously played. Firstly, John II, King of Balian - He would be voiced by Roger Craig Smith, best known for his portrayal of Ezio Auditore da Firenze. Secondly, Alberic du Lac, Keeper of Xan - He would be played by Oliver le Sueur, a lesser known voice actor who played the Elite Knight, Oscar of Astora, in the Undead Asylum of Dark Souls.
  4. "It's truly wonderful to see our Academy open to the public once more," John II declared, eager to visit the newly renovated building in preparation for the next semester.
  5. John II produced a weary sigh as news of the Barbovic King's health reached the south. "May God be with you, Karl," he whispered, praying in earnest for his friend and the Haeseni people.
  6. This was actually pretty well addressed by @sergisala. The parameters by which 'Metaplay' is defined are still extremely vague. It is all well and good to establish these core principles: However, there is a significant flaw here - where does Roleplay and OOC begin and end respectively? There are many scenarios in which these principles can be interpreted quite vaguely, and the timeframe in which the events must happen is not specified. To give an example - A playerbase that lost a war settles in another nation, primarily motivated to do so by OOC friendships. They rebuild and contribute to said nation's development, but never quite forget the perceived wrongs that were done to them. Time passes, months even, and still that grudge festers; they would jump at the chance to stick it to the people who beat them down. They grasp that opportunity and then lash out all of a sudden. The same battle lines as before are drawn up, the conflict this time around merely has a new name. At least, this is one perspective... The alternative is that this group merely went there because it was sensible. They approached their Roleplay with a new perspective, free of the past conflict, and were merely minding their own business. It just so happens that the group they previously fought has motivated them to fight again through some kind of ingame provocation, a year down the line. Who is to say this is motivated by OOC or Roleplay developments? The side that won the last war might perceive it as the former, whereas the side which lost might argue the latter. Perhaps they are both correct to some extent? Either way, how do the admins reliably engage with the community productively to ascertain who is acting in good faith and who is lying? Of course, there will be clear-cut cases where the answer is obvious, but I can think of quite a few recent developments which this analogy can apply to, over the past 6 months. I can recall a number of players pointing fingers to one party, and said party pointing right back. The Administration has not engaged with us effectively in how we should actually tackle this culture, one which has existed on the server for as long as I have played. Instead, they have solely introduced punitive measures which appear to disillusion the playerbase one way or another. First, there was outrage earlier in the week in the Church Discord over Levy_Spearman's ban, and now there is outrage in the opposite stand. The hatred is still there - what have you done to dispel it @Admins? I would also like to point out another issue in this post and ruling. @Josh3738, whilst I have not had any problems with you on an individual basis, you must admit that there is an apparent conflict of interest with you being at the centre of these developments. I cannot speak for your conduct as Moderation Admin in full; I am not well enough informed on the culture of the team you oversee, nor your targets and the consensus on your impartiality. I can, however, speak for an instance in which you turned a blind eye to behaviour which may well have fit the criteria you list, within the last 6 months, due to what I presume is a bias founded upon friendship. This is not something I resent you for, nor do I believe you should step down from the Administration because of it, but I would appreciate it if you might address this going forward, whether that be through a discussion on this post or in private. Overall, that is everything I have to say for now. I will be interested to see what else happens in the coming days if the Administration carry on, which they appear determined to do.
  7. "In centuries past, wicked men of a similar mindset thought they might dominate. They forged a realm 'free' of all morality and honour, led only by those who lived solely by the sword. Yet, all those who are defined by their capacity to shed blood are ultimately cut from this reality, like a rotten branch." John II rose to his feet, slamming shut a history book titled The Anarchy. The King retrieved his ebony sword, for there would be more battles to come. "Your fate shall be no different..."

T H E R O Y A L S U C C E S S I O N O F B A L I A N R E G N U M D E B A L I A N ✧⥼─────────༻❁༺─────────⥽✧ ISSUED BY THE CROWN OF BALIAN - 6th of Horen’s Calling 149 BA ✧⥼─────────༻❁༺─────────⥽✧ The Succession The CROWN OF BALIAN follows Absolute Cognatic Primogeniture, which means that the eldest child of the reigning monarch inherits the throne regardless of their gender. Males and Females are regarded as equal, afforded the same rights to inheritance. Upon the death of the present reigning monarch, the eldest child is the throne’s sole inheritor, followed by the heir’s own children in order of birth. Should the eldest child of the ruler predecease the monarch and sire no heirs of their body, the throne would then pass to the second-eldest child of the monarch and their heirs, in order of birth. This would continue with each child and their heirs. Should the monarch have no living children or grandchildren, the throne would then pass to the monarch’s eldest sibling and their heirs. In the absence of any siblings, and their heirs, the throne would pass to the eldest uncle or aunt of the monarch, and their heirs. In the event that there are no living heirs to the throne of Balian, a succession council would be called to determine the future of the throne’s inheritance. Individuals are excluded from the succession if they already hold titles in a foreign realm, stand to inherit titles in a foreign realm, or have pledged their allegiance to a foreign realm. The monarch may likewise disqualify an individual from the succession by issuing a royal writ of disinheritance. All heirs to the throne claim descent from His Royal Majesty, King John I of Balian. The Children of the Crown The heirs of the monarch are viewed as integral members of the kingdom and the royal household, born with the purpose of representing the Crown and its interests. For this reason, they’re afforded lifetime titles befitting of their birth and place within the royal succession. The eldest child of the ruling monarch, upon their birth, is named the Prince or Princess of Monterosa, with the Duchy of Atrus as a subsidiary title. In the event of the heir’s death, these titles are passed onto the next heir, as per the succession listed above. Upon the ascension of the heir to the throne of Balian, these titles merge with the Crown until a subsequent heir is born or named by the new monarch. The eldest daughter of the ruling monarch, upon their birth, is named the Princess Royal of Balian, with the County of Rosemoor as a subsidiary title. These titles may only be passed onto the next eldest daughter of a monarch upon the death of the previous holder, ensuring no two Princesses Royal exist concurrently. If the heir to the throne is female, the next eldest daughter will receive these titles. For any information regarding the structure upon which Balian addresses their Royalty, refer to : Here!! As the Star of St. Lothar has four greater points, so too did the Crown afford four royal counties to be held by princes and princesses of the kingdom. However, with the passage of time and the strengthening of the royal line, the number of royal counties has been expanded. These titles are chosen either by the monarch or by the individual child. They may be granted at birth or when the child reaches the age of majority. The Royal Counties: The County of Abretta The County of Pavino The County of Caluzzo The County of Senna The County of Pontazuro These titles are held for the person’s lifetime. Upon their death, the title will revert to the Crown regardless of if the prince or princess have issue of their own body. It is likewise noted that princes or princesses holding these titles are not considered Peers of the Realm. Descendants of His Royal Majesty, Alexander I, may likewise use the name ‘de Atrus’ in lieu of using their royal surname, though they will still belong to the royal House of Novellen and shall be named as such upon all official and royal documents. The Royal Succession (As of 149 BA, listed until as those in the immediate line) Current Monarch: His Royal Majesty, John II, King of Balian 1. His Royal Highness, Lothar Casimir, Prince of Monterosa & Duke of Atrus (b.2003) 2. His Royal Highness, Elias Constantine, Count of Pavino (b.2005) 3. Her Royal Highness, Aruna Alexandra (b.1991) * Her Royal Highness, Helena Casimira, is superseded by her brother Alexios Michael due to her years of absence from the Kingdom of Balian. * His Royal Highness, Hadrian Constantine, is excluded from the succession due to holding titles within and pledging his allegiance to the Kingdom of Númendil. This exclusion extends to his descendants. * Ariadne Casimira, *formerly* Her Royal Highness, is disinherited and excluded from the succession due to acts of disobedience towards the Crown of Balian. * At personal request, the Prince Alexander Casimir stepped down from his place in succession in favour of his sister Sibyl Gwenyth. * The descendants of His Serene Highness, Robert Therosius, Prince of Sedan are excluded from the succession due to *formerly* holding titles within the United Kingdom of Aaun. * The descendants of His Highness, Frederick Louis de Joannes, are excluded from the succession due to *formerly* holding titles within the Commonwealth of the Petra. * The descendants of His Royal Highness, Constantine Antonious, are excluded from the succession due to their *former* standing as heirs to the Commonwealth of the Petra. 9. A household servant hastily transferred the missive to the King of Balian, who read its contents with a resolute gaze. The past year had been one of intrigue and strife; blood was shed senselessly, and men were compelled to question neighbours they had once called friends. Such was the duality of man. The Vinovians were yet another example of mortals falling prey to aspirations for power and status, and they would not be the last. "I sincerely hope that reason and kinship will prove greater than the misguided ambitions of the wicked," John II mused, pondering what the future may entail. Yet, in the present, he directed his retinue to make due preparations, for they had been called upon...
  10. A COURT WARRANTS: MITCH McCANON 9th of Godfrey’s Triumph, 148 B.A. AS OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT, a case of banditry and assault has grown against the citizenry of Balian, with the assailant known as MITCH McCANON. Per a given report and recountings, the following describes MITCH McCANON and his actions. Of Physical Description: brown eyes and hair, presenting as a simple traveling adventurer of white tunics and leather accessories, and notable accessories being a foreign hat of sorts with a teal bandana for concealing identity. Of Incriminating Actions: attacking against fellow citizenry and Regiment troops, alongside actions of robbery, burglary and kidnapping. The Magisterium and The Crown thus announce the capture and imprisonment of MITCH McCANON for a pending trial. Any additional information of whereabouts or additional actions may be brought forth to The Magister, Heinrik var Ruthern, or His Royal Majesty, King John II. Furthermore, the successful apprehension and delivery of the assailant to the custody of the Regiment of Saint Lothar will entitle the party responsible to a reward of 300 Minas. 11. ". . ." At first, the news of Villorik's passing was received in silence, for the King of Balian was too bewildered to muster an appropriate response. Invincible was a word that often came to John's mind when he thought of the Cardinal. Not in the sense that he was impervious to damage; everyone knew he could bleed. Instead, it was his resounding presence that was invincible, for he possessed an uncanny ability to rally all, regardless of their faith or race, against the shadow that threatened them mutually. Whereas those who claimed to possess greater piety and holiness incited a combination of fear and hatred to garner followers, Villorik reminded his comrades of what was precious and worth fighting for. The world would be a darker place now, John thought, for it had lost a champion who truly appeared to be an instrument of divine providence. He should have led the flock, yet it was a burden he would never accept. "All the more reason," the King remarked. The remnant voice of Cloudbreaker trembled; it were as if the black sword knew there would be more fights to come, made all the more difficult by the passing of a great champion. And yet, even in death, perhaps Villorik had proven himself invincible, for the example he had provided would inspire more to take up arms in defence against the darkness. Nothing is ever truly gone, so long as memory endures. At last, John had found the right words for this occasion. "Vale, Villorik Cardinal Jorenus. You have earned your rest, and we will carry on where you once tread."
  12. "A fitting tribute and one I wholeheartedly support. Achillius d'Arkent laid the foundations for new heights, which his widow and children earned through their determination in honouring his legacy. It is my earnest hope future generations look back upon his service to the Kingdom as exemplary." So declared the King of Balian, John II, smiling as he read the declaration.

A chamber through which the people may elect dutiful representatives to speak on their behalf, ensuring the essential values of equity and progress are upheld throughout the Kingdom. The Crown recognises the importance of ensuring the maintenance and integrity of the Senate as a legislative body. Thus, following a consultation with the Senate and a subsequent majority vote of its sitting members, we bestow unto the chamber the powers to establish Tribunals of Inquiry. This will expand upon the means through which it may effectively scrutinise and ensure the proper functionality of the Duana as a governing body. The provisions detailed within this edict shall hereby repeal Section II and Section III of the Government Transparency Act of 111 B.A., replacing the process of appealing for an ‘impromptu audit’ whilst expanding upon the process of summoning witnesses. SECTION I: ESTABLISHMENT The Crown hereby invests within the Senate the authority to propose the establishment of a Tribunal of Inquiry. An elected member of the Senate, during its convening, may propose the establishment of a tribunal. The following criteria must be satisfied:- The criteria for matters of urgent public interest must be met (defined under Section 1.3). The establishment of a tribunal must be affirmed by a simple majority of sitting members of the Senate. The establishment of a tribunal requires Royal Assent from His/Her Majesty. In the absence of His/Her Majesty, the Amiratus may approve the establishment of a tribunal on their behalf. Matters of urgent public interest shall be defined under the following parameters:- Where allegations of criminality exist, outlined under LEX CRIMINALIS. Where the competency of an office may be called into question in upholding its stately duties, outlined under the OFFICES OF THE DUANA. SECTION II: FUNCTIONS & POWERS A tribunal shall hold the specified offices of His/Her Majesty’s Duana accountable. Said offices are as follows:- Legate. Constable. Domus Ministri. Procurator. Censor. Magistrate-General. A tribunal will function in the following capacity:- Investigating matters of urgent public interest (defined under Section 1.3). Recording the full dialogue between its members and witnesses, for the purpose of reference and later scrutiny. Publishing a public report of findings and recommendations, upon conclusion of its investigation, for the purpose of preventing the recurrence of any cited issues. A tribunal may call forth witnesses to testify. Witnesses must be relevant to the scope of its inquiry. Witnesses must be declared before the acquisition of Royal Assent. Amendments to the witness list shall require sanction from His/Her Majesty or, in their absence, the Amiratus. Witnesses are not compelled by law to appear before the tribunal without sanction from the Crown. A valid signature or seal from His/Her Majesty or, in their absence, the Amiratus is required. The mere approval of the Crown in establishing a tribunal will not in itself serve as a sanctioning of tribunal summons. Those who fail to adhere to a tribunal summons, sanctioned by the Crown, shall be charged with Petty Disobedience, in accordance with Article IV.011B of the LEX CRIMINALIS. SECTION III: COMPOSITION A tribunal shall be composed of five nominated members of the Senate, including the Speaker. All members of the tribunal must act in accordance with the professional conduct expected of representatives of the people. All members of the tribunal are invited to question witnesses for the duration of the inquiry. The tribunal shall nominate a Chairman for the duration of the inquiry. The chairman is responsible for leading the inquiry and the order in which witnesses are called. The Chairman shall maintain the factual integrity of the inquiry. For the purpose of composing an accurate report, questions of the following nature are to be disregarded:- Leading questions. Speculative questions. Trivial questions. Furthermore, answers under the following circumstances are to be disregarded:- Conjecture. Duress. Hearsay. Misleading. AD GLORIAM DEI HIS ROYAL MAJESTY, JOHN II, by the Grace of God, King of Balian, Prince of Providence, Duke of Helena, Lorraine and Reutov, Count of Pompourelia, Viscount of Eflen, Anatis and Valio, Baron of Renzfeld, Brucca, Valens, Malenos, Montcoure and Ciavola, Lord of Portoregne, Atrus and Monterosa, Warden of La Costa Rubinissima, Protector of the Heartlanders and the South, etcetera.
  14. "Already, the Amiratus has made quite the impression within her new role," John II commented, evidently impressed as he inspected the newly published Directory.
  15. King John II's expression was marked with a proud smile. "The South shall offer no foothold for darkspawn. Not whilst we remain vigilant," he stated to his councillors, intent on conducting a due inspection of the Regiment.

A true statesman and patriot, August held the office for twenty long years, serving the realm with the utmost dignity and honour befitting a man of his station. Alongside Ivan Cardinal Lotharia, August assisted in the administration of the Regency Council, ensuring the continued stability of the realm until the coronation of His Majesty, King John II. Yet, whilst his wise counsel was invaluable, he was above all else a good man, beloved for his sincerity and kindness. He will be sorely missed by all. However, in our remembrance, we cannot allow ourselves to neglect that the realm requires a new hand, just and wise in their administrative conduct. Thus, the Crown hereby appoints the Duchess of Sunholdt, Esfir d’Arkent, as Amiratus of the Kingdom of Balian. Having proven her aptitude in the capacity of Palatiodora and loyalty as one of our most honourable peers, we instil our full confidence in her ability to inherit such a monumental burden. The Crown looks forward to witnessing her future years of service.
  17. The Palatio Arancione fell silent, the flags mounted atop its spires falling to half-mast. They waved in remembrance of not only a great statesman and patriot, but a good man and close friend. John II had spoken with August shortly before he received the news; he was aware of the old Amiratus' declining health. Yet, his sudden death stunned the King, breaking the Stoic expression he often thought he had inherited from the Temesch. "Old friend..." he muttered softly, sombre in tone. Rare was the occasion that the King allowed his emotions to get the better of himself. He had learned through prior experience that impulsive displays were all too often a man's undoing. However, under these circumstances, he could not help but confine himself to his private chambers, entertaining none save his wife and children. With sorrow in his eyes, he gathered them around upon a soft carpet, eventually mustering a smile in recollection of fond memories. "Come now, Lothar, Elias, Cassiel, Amadea. Let me tell you of my first Amiratus - my dearest friend, August Benedict Temesch."
