  1. Because every descendant race in LOTC can produce fertile offspring with every other descendant race, all the descendants belong to the same species.

Halflings can also produce fertile offspring with the main 4 races, making them the same species as well.

arent all the 4 races at base just humans with different characteristics? Or rather were? before they were cursed.

The four brothers were all different from one another in the beginning, as Malin had pointed ears and Horen didn't. This was before Iblees curse, so that means Iblees curse merely amplified the traits specific to them. So, that is the cause of the races diverging. They all were the same at first but varied slightly. However, who knows if the Wandering Wizard lore is fiction and not fact. Perhaps the First Men all had the same traits such as pointed ears, height, strength, and long life and the Four Brothers were not the first sons but just rather important people. The LotC universe could be much older than 1700ish years, maybe back before 1700 years ago there was a great calamity and the Four Brothers united the First Men by making four kingdoms. There's a lot of possibilities that you can think up of IRP to explain the origins of the races on LotC, but maybe having no definite lore adds to the mystery of it.
