It’s far easier to place the incompetencies, inadequacies and inconsistencies of any system that you’ve made onto the people interpreting it – I’m not going to go on some Barthesian literary tirade about every text needing to stand entirely on its own, but it’s a cheap trick to say that your inability to write a system that can be understood by most people as an isolate and freestanding thing is the fault of “the players participating”. It’s an issue of language and the inability of whoever was using said language to convey what they mean with concision and clarity. If people can’t understand whatever system you’re trying to put across, write it better or get a better system.
