The Destruction of Yong Ping A Series of Unfortunate Events [Image credits go to myself, see more of my work here!] [!] At the beginning of the book is a woodblock print frontispiece detailing the Great Wave at Yong Ping. In the twilight years of an era, time again proves that the brightest flames burn the shortest. Written SA 77, 4th of the Amber Cold In dedication to the Jade State of Yong Ping THE FIRST TREMORS It was quiet as any day in the recent years, trade had traveled to other cities in the wake of various conflicts to the north, and then the fall of Varhelm cut port traffic with our allies now residing inland in Alisgrad. I was tending the Monastery grounds when the first tremors hit, small - almost imperceptible at first. My suspicions were not yet aroused until the second set of tremors a month later. The goat herds in the outer farms flocked to the city walls, and the bison fled to hide in the mists of the western forests. In my youth, I had heard tales of what earthquakes by the sea could foreshadow - and though our beloved bastion Yong Ping was built to be reinforced after the last tsunami, built to resist sea and siege, it was better to be safe than sorry. THE FIRES Preparations were made to temporarily evacuate the walls. Even if the city survived, there was no guarantee that the structures would protect us from the calamity to come. Arrangements were made with Talon’s Port that our people could temporarily find steading while we waited out the storm, and our museum collection a place to be stored until the storm had passed. It was a strange twist of fate then, that as the last of evacuations were made and the city of Yong Ping for the first time since its construction had stood still and quiet - with only the crackling of flames that consumed the land. It was said to have started as a house fire, perhaps a stove or an oven left carelessly in the hurry to evacuate. Whatever the cause the flames climbed the walls, devouring all in its path to scrape at the heavens. SUSANOO’S WRATH The inferno was at its peak when the last travelers on the roads to Talon’s Port said they felt a tremor unlike any before, and looked back to see what Yong Ping had both the honor and dire misfortune to witness this twice in its time. Susanoo’s wrath, a tsunami growing from the dark and stormy sea stretched to blot out the very sky and raging towards the shore. It was a spectacle of both beauty and terror. The city weakened, eaten away by the devouring flames, there was next to nothing left when the wrath of the ocean waters finally subsided. THE FIRE’S REPRISE Early scouting parties were naturally dumbfounded when they found what they had expected to be a sodden city to be nothing more than kindling for a fresh fire. What ruins remained were slowly consumed by what was surely an intentional fire, though by whom it can not be said. Any and all attempts to suppress the flames were unsuccessful until the third day, at which point there was naught.. only the most bare of salvage left to retrieve. At the very least, the land will be fertile for whatever comes next. AFTERMATH It has been a year since Yong Ping fell back into the earth, and our people now reside in Talon’s Port once more, welcomed and one as part of the community. Li Xiu-ying had in true human fashion hopefully named our city Yong Ping, “Eternal Prosperity”. It was a beautiful idea, one that gave hope to many like myself who believed our culture would never have a place beyond our homeland. The truth however, is more than we could have hoped for. Heng-Soe, “Prosperity and Adversity” - for we are more than the lands we steward, we are a people defined by richness of self no matter the circumstances. From forests since burned Fresh life begins anew, Look! See the flowers bloom Signed, Tianrui Ren, Soldier, Poet, Zhu OOC:

Taking a break from shooting monsters from over the barricades, Tianrui Ren sets his crossbow down to read the flier. "Maybe this one can tell me when we'll take the next district back!" He cheers to himself with a chuckle, picking up the crossbow once more to nail a giant spider through the head with a crunch.

I'm available past 4pm EST most days, but you can confer with the other folks working to run the event in the Yong Ping discord! Something can most definitely be worked out I'm sure.

The Overtaking of the Hirano Farms A Dragon's week has passed since the monsters corrupted the Jade State of Yong Ping, littering the streets with their filth and spilling blood upon stone. Buildings are damaged, with no signs of sentient life inside them, creatures overtaking once warm hearths and beds. The people of Yong Ping only have one safe area; that of the Tianrui District. Everywhere else, inside or outside the walls are filled with monsters, such as Danungols, Trolls and Maneaters. An effort has been made by the local citizens, alongside the Yong Ping Army, to barricade every entrance possible to keep the monsters from breaking into the heart of the city. Now, it is time for the Yong Pingers to retaliate! Behold, the Zhu seeks brave men and women to eradicate vile beings that have stolen the beloved nation! The best approach to stop the monsters from coming inside the city is to cut their numbers from outside the gate. The plan is to attack the monsters located in the Hirano district, that being by the farm homes near the abandoned Musin Village. The city is now calling forth to the brave people, to scout, learn about the monsters’ weaknesses, and ultimately, cut their numbers from the outside. Let peace come back into our walls, into our streets, and into our homes. Let Yong Ping become the beautiful city we always loved, citizens and visitors alike. It longs for the heroes to come forward and fight the wickedness Almaris hid until this day! “No mud, no lotus.” This will be the first formal event of the Jade Gambit event line, linked here: https://www.lordofthecraft.net/forums/topic/208688-the-jade-gambit-eventline/?tab=comments#comment-1887149, allowing those wishing to participate a chance to schedule a time to scout out and inevitably defeat the creatures.

To the Jade State of Yong Ping - Betrayal at it's Finest
Moo_bot replied to fetty bridgers's topic in Jade State of Yong Ping
[!] A bird lands gracefully in the office of the Daelish Sionadh, bearing a bamboo scroll tube on her leg. The inside missive would be sealed with the crimson and gold Long Dragon of the Jade State. "To the Sionadh of the A' Ghàidhealtachd Malcolm and Gowther de Chlann Douglas, The enclosed documents which you threaten to release were lawfully signed within the duties of the respected Minister of Interior Lady Chen Yunya. You are not owed a sum of 1,500 mina for any services rendered, so I am to assume this is meant to be a form of extortion and slander. If you have read the Laws of the Jade State, these offenses render you both to the score of 5 points. These offenses can only be dismissed at the behest of the Zhu. It is worth mention that the Mortality Guild, the second party in question with regards to the concerned contract, have no apparent ties to the Daelish. This rises suspicions as to your obtaining of this document, as well as your intent. As for threat of military action in the event your demands are not met, you show your true interest in threatening innocent citizens of the Jade State. If you truly cared for the falsely accused act of embezzlement, you would instead demand the money be recompensated to the people. I will consider counselling the Zhu on your pardon should you decide to reconsider your course of action. Signed, Tianrui Ren, Minister of Foreign Affairs and First Patriarch of Yong Ping " [!] A copy of the referred to contract is dispensed along with the scroll. -
It is with great sorrow that Ren receives word of his old friend's death, but he remembers fondly the days that the Sutharlainn clan lived in Yong Ping. He remembers the bonds the two had worked to forge between their peoples, and the friendship they had enjoyed through meeting their goals. A letter is penned to Daibhidh's family, reading as follows. The following letter is delivered specifically to the Sutharlainn family, accompanied by a crate of plum wine and pu'er tea.
-
Tianrui Ren smiles at the fiery flows and virtuous strength of his old friend. Surely, the Dragonkin could spit no fire hotter than the Grand Justiciar.
-
As time would pass, Ren would find the bakery by the docks oddly quiet with no steam to be seen and the delicious scent of fresh baked goods cutting through the sea breeze to be worryingly absent. Knocking in to not find Helix, the elf's brow furrowed with worry. A further search was to be organized, for surely the jolly dwarf was simply on another trip and had forgotten to leave notice, or lost and in need of help. He leaves a note for Helix and Cuorn that reads as follows. "Dear Helix and Cuorn, I will be sending to arrange search parties for Helix. If Helix, you read this and were simply on an impromptu journey - please bird me at once to cancel this. Cuorn For Cuorn, there is a drawn map with picture of a Musin holding bread by the docks, an arrow pointing directions to the Tianrui Teahouse. Best regards, Ren"

State of the Empire | The Acting Archchancellor
Moo_bot replied to Minuvas's topic in The Kingdom of Oren
A copy of the missive finds its way to the desk of the Jade State Office of Foreign Affairs. Reading over the details, the Li-Ren elf minister's brow perks in surprise at the sudden and rather grand scale of change. Taking up a spare scroll, he makes to correspond with the Orenian Office of Foreign Affairs. -
Tianrui Ren is not sure where one of his usual patrons in the teahouse was that day, a troubled frown crossing his face on receiving the news of Chang'e's death. He travels to the Temple, lighting a candle for them by the Ancestor shrine, and prays they find safe travel to the Ancestors.
-
Tianrui Ren is proud to see his son who has grown so much to take up the mantle, though he wonders why Ryu refers to him as lost. He shall have to have a word later to make sure that he does not think his father dying or leaving otherwise.
