Ghouls (Playable Zombies)

Origin:

MM35_PG119.jpg

It is with strange fancy that I have stumbled upon such ***** creation, I write with such curiosity at the meaning and possibility. In arts and crafts of the dark and foul I have stumbled upon creation that would shock thee most profound scholars in this art.

I call this new breed of the unliving Ghouls, I’ve named them after such idle fairy tales that farmers and wives give to the sounds outside their pig squabble of a home. But! Mark these etched words upon parchments skins that these are no fairy tales. It all started at the nie of one unforgettable night, there I was in my element in the graves of forgotten soldiers. No one would see me that night, the shadows were long and the light of a crescent moon only peaking through the mysterious clouds.  I had my assistant with me, a short bulbous man with a hooked nose and a hunched back, his feature were grim but I trusted him.

We thrust deep within the grounds loins, heaving and pushing mud and gravel alike, until meeting with the box that most men dread and deny, I and my companion thought of it like a present a gift! We were giddy to open and see what ‘treasure’ lay inside. A well preserved man inside, oh what joy filled me and my companion, Caloo Calay! What a wonder to say, but in my absent mindedness I attracted a passer, he yelled out something along the lines of this “What’s all that noise!”.

Only one thing to do I supposed, I raised that damned body with my power and might showing that man true fright! Oh how he ran oh how he fled, it made me laugh! At his dread. But after dawns crown steadily approached and all my strength left the body something ***** happened the thing rose and attacked my companion, I didn’t tell it to it was running off its own mind o-r what was left of it. But lucky for my companion it seemed to show respect to I! It seemed odd it, followed me, I took it back to our hallowed halls.

Experiments:

Test one concludes that they seem to obey the necromancer, reasons unknown more tests need to be concluded. The creature often seems to sob in my presence, and seems very docile as well.

Test two concludes through draining and passing life force through the ghoul you can make the thing more peaceful or stark raving mad. My companion would approach the cage the Ghoul would lash out, my presence didn’t seem to affect its attitude in fact it seemed more like a trained dog towards me. The nails seem very large now, and they lash out farther out of its cage every passing night as if reaching for something.

Test three concludes it prefers to attack sentient life, bringing animal and my companion near the cage the creature will always go reach out for him even if the animal is closer.

Test Three concludes that by feeding live animals the creature it gains life force, note sentient life has not been tested but most likely it would give the creature more, concluding the reason why is prefer sentient over animal.

Conclusion, my mind is set upon the idea of rare and uncanny resurrection. The creature is independent of the necromancer seeking life force on its own accord, necromancers seem to have control over the creatures, reason unknown but thought being that they may think if they do good the necromancer will reward them with such, but it is still an unknown.

-Howard Phillips (Generic necromancer)

OOC creation and things to note:

Edited

Peak amount of players is eleven and under. Note once a Ghoul is killed that Ghoul will be encouraged to perma, note this system is more of a reincarnation system, you die as a ghoul you become a different ghoul. Note your privileges as a Ghoul player can be removed if you cause problems, but do not threat this will be rare and we'll talk it out with the Representative player before hand.

Ghouls seem to obey necromancers due to their creation and the hope that they’ll supply them with more lifeforce. Note if a necromancer attacks a Ghoul, the Ghoul can defend itself.

General Description:

Ghouls are decayed bodies that are run on a very small amount of lifeforce. This can be done intentionally by a necromancer, by leaving a minuscule amount of lifeforce for the being to support itself on and hunger for more. They are the rare bit that is able to provide themselves with lifeforce through the eating of living beings, drawing it from each piece and organ, however it would simply look like cannibalism.

They are left at the brink of death feeling constant agonizing pain that may only be slightly relieved from the consumption of other beings. They will be seen as miserable creatures, continuously wheezing and moaning from the excruciating pain that crowds their every joint.

Creation:

The creation of a Ghoul is more an accident than on purpose, when a necromancer raises a body it has a small chance of becoming a Ghoul. A one out of a hundred chance, necromancers can attempt to create Ghouls on purpose but it’s a trial and error process.

Options

Ghouls can take on various sizes and forms, they're self sustaining cadavers or patch-work monsters. They may be of any animal or sentient creature. (within reason)

Strengths:

- Fun to RP

- Will keep on fighting even if they lose a limb.

- No concept of physical pain.

Weaknesses:

- Stupid.

- Can’t formulate complex strategies without the aid of a non Ghoul party.

- Can feel some emotion.

Behaviour:

Their minds are broken shells of major memories that loiter their psyche, often sending them to go places in which they used to live and surround themselves in past memories to alleviate these feelings of constant nostalgia.

The souls of these beings are damaged but not broken, because of this they can express emotions such as sadness, remorse, and even love from people of their past. However, this does not mean that a ghoul will not attack someone they have deep feelings for, their need for lifeforce trumps their humanity, turning him on the one’s they once cared for.

Red Lines:

- Joe the friendly Ghoul. Ghouls can’t be integrated into society but can be commanded by necromancers. And or others through training and torture.

- Ghouls are in constant hunger for lifeforce, this hunger is able to suppress any other feelings they might have. If you however, do not RP this constant craving for lifeforce then it would be considered as powergaming.

Why do you want to play a Ghoul:

Do you understand & agree to hold the bounds:

Description:

Quick Edit: If a necromancer kills a Ghoul, they may not be revived as they will likely not bring the body back to life into the form of a ghoul, thus they must PK. You must be aware of this when applying.

Why do you want to play a Ghoul: I love expanding my horizons, and this seems like a fun opportunity to do so.

Do you understand & agree to hold the bounds: I do, read the whole post.

"The Gravedigger"

A haggling piece of flesh, and a once human collector, 'The Grave Digger' isn't the most kind Ghoul around. His knack is for collecting ligaments and limbs from the living or dead, but has special tastes. He prefers to amass large quantities of either Human or Elf parts, and rarely is found near or attacking any others. He has little to no memory, but remembers only his task when he once lived, to fill his graveyard with ripe bodies.

Why do you want to play a Ghoul: I see playing as a Ghoul as an opportunity to provide some quality combat RP to people, something I don't see that often to be quite honest.
Do you understand & agree to hold the bounds:  Certainly!

An ambling green orc corpse, this ghoul has long since been a denizen of ruined catacombs and foggy caves. It knows next to nothing other than darkness and the flesh of the unfortunate.

On it's back is tied by a ratty leather belt a long-rusted iron spear. The armor that once clung to the orc has mostly rusted, cracked, and fallen off, and cuts, bruises and indentations mar this cadaverous creature.

Why do you want to play a Ghoul: To get a diverse roleplay experience instead of my usual side. As a cleric I have fought a very large number of dark beings both disgusting and scary. I feel I have a fairly good idea of how dark beings can provide role play. As well I would love the experience to get a view of LOTC from a more "antagonist" point of view.

Do you understand & agree to hold the bounds: I agree and understand all that is stated in this post. (Barely living beings clinging to a necromancer to supply lifeforce. With the intelligence of an orc on dwarfen mead)

Description:

The Glutton : A pig in life a pig in death

Whopper.jpg

A obese ghoul likely the product of a spoiled noble boy. As he would do anything for sweats in life he will do the same for life force in death. He can often be found eating animals live. Whether it is a trapped chicken or a halfling to slow on his feet the Glutton will be very happy to get a bite. Even a  fellow ghoul could be at risk if the Glutton hasn't eaten recently. What lies in the Gullot's digestive system are the true horrors of this world. He will follow the necromancer like an overly large dog at the promise of a juicy bunny at the end.

They are capable of incredibly poor speech, mostly single words, but can't quite make up sentences.

That remains to be seen, and is a matter of opinion.

False advertising.

I played one for a while, it was fun.

All applicants are accepted, I will send you a PM in just a moment.

Poltergeists wouldn't be too much of ghouls. As it says in the lore, they're more so meant to be expected to be PK'd, albeit then a new ghoul can be made upon that one dying. Therefore one specific ghoul shouldn't be focused on, this is more so a thread recruiting people and allowing them to play Ghouls for the Necromancers. Feel free to apply regardless. You do not need a current dead or alive character for this.

Thanks for the applications so far, we'll be waiting for a bit more before we go choosing any so far. Good luck all.

Why do you want to play a Ghoul: I'm looking for a new type of RP, as RP is growing more and more bland day by day. The ghouls seem like quite a fine place to take my RP to.
Do you understand & agree to hold the bounds: Yup

Description: Ghoul.jpg

A former messenger boy he is nothing but a hunk of meat now. He carries with him a old and rusted spear. He prefers to eat his prey living, but will do whatever it takes to gather life force. He has little memory of his previous life, and what is left is just destinations. His memories are all of the cities he's been to, and not the people he's met.

Why do you want to play a Ghoul: I've been playing my main character and only character for some time now. In saying this, I'd like to try to open my horizons a bit to make room for another perspective on role play.

Do you understand & agree to hold the bounds: I understand and agree on how Ghouls are played as well as the rules put in place for them.

Runkur

The shambling remains, once that was human. Though proud in life and well off in some ways. Though it was cut short after a run in with a necromancer. After his body was cast aside by the individual's feeding session. But not without tampering with the corpse. Sending just enough life force back into the lifeless heap to make it slightly mobile. Only to have it stand and dance with odd moves as the necromancer said mocking things to the puppet. After the man discarded control over the corpse, it sat in a nearby swamp. Rotting away for some time till it regained a small spark of life force within it's body. Rising once more to seek out it's only real motivation to continue it's damned existence of constant pain it endures. Runkur will follow it's creators for a chance to gain a meal for it's aid. Though that's all the keenness it possesses on it's near mindless struggles.

Why do you want to play a ghoul: I've been wanting to play as an undead creature for awhile now, and I feel this is the perfect opportunity to do so. In addition, I've only played "good'" characters since I have been on the server, it would be nice to see the opposite side of the spectrum.

Do you understand & agree to hold the bounds: Yes indeed.

Description: Alice was once a happy halfling in a time that seems so long ago until a mortal bout of illness took her life. With no one to care for her, the body peacefully decomposed in the forests near Lenfarthing. For better or worse, decades later she was given the gift of life once again. Now she knows nothing but the need to feed, the pale yellow bricks of the Cloud Temple, and one faint name that repeats constantly in the back of her mind: her mentor Jae.
