Abresi Financial Overview

 Share

Recommended Posts

This thread will serve to inform the inhabitants of Abresi of the financial status of their city.

It will list income, expenditure, donations.. generally speaking, all the info on how the people that run the city, spend the tax money.

Anyone who walks into Abresi would be able to see this, as it will be on posters throughout the city itself. Information such as this would no doubt leak easily to other nations in a very short timespan, as it is completely public.

Abresi Financial Status

Week 1-2 (21st Okt  - 3rd Nov)

The first two-week period was much like a pendulum swinging back and forth slowly.

It saw the departure of Tuv.. followed by the installment of Joseph Lane.

It saw a large number of people departing.. followed by others moving in.

It saw rioting in the streets and daily raids.. and it saw the slow bu sure reinstatement of peace and quiet in the streets, as the reformed guardforce took charge.

It has been a period of extremes. A true plunge in the deep end.. and we come out on top, still afloat. (albeit spewing out a fair bit of water.)

Total tax income: 3950 minas

Origin_Lark - Commissar - 460

Total guard payments: 2480

Final tally: +1470 minas

Closing remarks:

As the dust finally settles a bit, we can look to further cement the foundations that make Abresi a great city to live and trade in.

Over the coming two weeks, we shall use the surplus money earned to finance prize money for events held in the Tavern. (Be sure to check them out and take part!)

Furthermore, the Stewards are on hand to sort out people with plots. Quite a few of those plots will be facing eviction due to inactivity and/or the lack of tax-payments, so keep an eye out for the familiar signs that label a plot as "for rent"!

In other news, the first economic link has been established, as the Auction House now sells goods and produce from Cavan!

What if we couldn't find our plot signs ._.

Then you contact either myself or a Steward in-game to sort it out.

Confusion may happen, most of this is completely new.

We are also easy to approach, take full advantage of that and find us in-game (Visitor Centre info alcoves), on the forum (pm) or even on Skype if you need stuff sorted out.

ATTENTION:

===========

All tax during the second taxation week (11th - 17th Nov) has been lifted.

Due to the voting system being down, as well as the chestshop plugin, I find myself unable to ask people to pay tax, when the system itself is set up to be supported via activities such as voting, so not to impact anyone's roleplay-time.

We purposefully designed the tax system to make heavy use of an automated facility that is currently unavailable, as well as encouraging people to vote to raise the (small amount) of tax that we ask for.

What with the systems being down, I shall be paying the guardforce from my own pockets for the time being, till all plugins are back up.

Snazzy entrepeneurs: This would be a great time to claim one of the free houses in Abresi, as you wont be paying tax right now.

Abresi Financial Status

Week 3-4 (4th Nov  - 17th Nov)

The second period saw both the voting and the chest-shop plugin break down, leading to the temporary removal of both.

Unfortunately for Abresi, the entire tax system is based around the combination of those two plugins, which allow us to levy tax without impacting people's roleplay, as we tax little amounts (easily able to be had by voting every so often) and we allow for an entire week during which the people can pick a moment to hop over to the Tax Office, and use the chest-shops to pay the tax.

Alas, the system is down, so we shall not levy tax during this period.

As soon as the plugins are re-enabled, taxation shall resume.

Fortunately, Abresi's treasury can easily support a few periods without income (as we planned for this eventuality.. We like planning.)

Apart from this, the period saw a review of the City Stewards, whereby it became apparent that due to RL commitments, Aptrotta was unfortunately unable to dedicate enough time to the position.. and was asked to step down. We wish his well with his exams and hope he may return one day.

However, the gap left ws soon filled with an eager new City Steward: firestar25!

We welcome his character, Theobalt Rolnik, who has taken to his tasks with fervent enthousiasm, sorting out a staggering 6 plots in his first two days!

Income:

Plot taxation:

Plot taxation was suspended due to disabled plugins.

Once the voting and chest-shop plugins are back, taxation will return.

Final tally: -5290 minas

Closing remarks:

The deficit may seem steep, but rest assured, the treasury can bear this burden for now. Good tidings are on the horizon, with the Tech Team being close to finishing the new chest shop plugin, which means we are a good way towards a speedy solution to our problems.

In other news, a few exiting things to look forward to:

- Sporadic posted about long-nosed traders eager to take up residence in large trading hubs, to act as auctioneers. Suffice it to say, Abresi is on top of this and immediately volunteered its very own Auction House for them to take up residence in.

While we don't have a final date when they will make their appearance, keep an eye peeled and stay on the lookout for the friendly merchants!

- Remodelling has finally begun in earnest on the City Gate and Walls.

This is something that has been a long time coming, as the current (first version) of the city walls and gate was never intended to be the final one.

A very large amount of effort has been put in by the guardforce to provide the city with good, solid feedback on how they operate, what their wishes are.. and most importantly, what turns out to work and what does not.

It has been a learning experience for all of us.. and will continue to remain so, while we go about building the new and improved Walls and Gate, as well as the general updating of the Guardforce' Headquarters.

Keep an eye open for the new buildings and be sure to give the guards a firm nod of appreciation, as the above would not have been possible without their stalwart attitude!

Abresi Financial Status

Week 5-6 (18th Nov  - 1st Dec)

The third period proved to be a momentous one, as multiple things happened at once, with each driving driving home its chosen point like a wedge.

First up, the chest shop plugin made an impressive return in a totally new format, thanks to the diligent coders this server has. An interesting plugin, now even allowing the showcasing of items on slabs.

Suffice it to say we are all looking forward to many new shops using these features to market their wares.

Sadly, the voting plugin is still down, which means we cannot levy tax just yet. (I truly feel people need to be able to get the coin through voting, allowing the process to have a minimal impact upon roleplay.) Fortunately, the city can bear the burden of paying the guardsmans wages for the next month or so without any effort. If the plugin is not sorted by the next period, we shall have to look into alternative means to fix this.. but not before.

Secondly, I have to raise up firestar25 (Theobalt Rolnik, the new steward) up on a pedestal and shower him in praise and assorted flower petals.

This man has almost single-handidly sorted out all the open plots in the city with new owners, giving us the excuse to finally construct the last few new houses we had planned initially.. but never got round to before.

Expect "Little Kralta" to become a thing real soon, with the eagle-eyed among you already having seen the new streetname on the signs. (If you have not, go check them out, past the bend in the road after the Taxation Office.)

Thirdly: Rebellion and a big battle.

Most of you have seen, taken part in, or simply heard of the battle at Shattenburg that took place recently, where the rebel forces sought to gain a foothold in Oren.

A vast swathe of Abresi took part in the battle, and I hear many a celebratory party went down throughout the streets, following Oren's victory.

What does the future bring? Will we see the rebels return in any way, shape or form? Will they fracture and split up, maybe even dissapear entirely? Abresi itself cannot afford to dwindle on it too long, as many other projects await us!

Fourth point to make is a sad one: Cracker (Havenok, Emperor Siegmund Carrion) has taken his leave from the server. It is a truly sad day when you see people leave that you have come to know through roleplay on the server in any form.. but even more devastating when it is someone who has taken the reunification of the human Realm to heart.. and made it his work to effect change.

We wish Cracker the very best in his studies and hope he returns some other day, on a new character, now that Emperor Siegmund has died.

With that death comes a new ruler of Oren: Heinrik Carrion (formerly van Roy). Up till recently, our Lord Marshall, now elevated to the position of King, as well as his Carrion lineage confirmed fully at last. We wish Knox213 the very best and hope that our full support, as well as that of the rest of Oren, gives him an enjoyable time as nation leader.

Income:

Plot taxation:

- none-

Plot taxation was suspended due to disabled plugins.

Once the voting and chest-shop plugins are back, taxation will return.

Total tax income: 0

chazz_man - guard - 260

keith_dx7 - serjeant - 360

XtremeGamer714 - serjeant - 360

Origin_Lark - commissar - 460

Kralek - constable - 560

Total guard payments: 2260

Final tally: -7550 minas

Closing remarks:

A continuation of deficit, which seems staggering.. but must be put into perspective, to ensure everyone understands what these numbers actually mean.

It is far too easy to point at them and go "red is bad!", it goes beyond that.

Running a town, or city.. or even a nation, is all about long-term views.

We built the system to be reliant on two seperate plugins to function, as detailed in the last report.

Now, while one has been brought back, the other has not. At the moment, it is a simple case of waiting for the voting plugin to return.. and then we can levy tax again.. and get back into the green numbers.

"But how do you recover from red number -that- big?!"

Well, to put things in simple context: We lose roughly 5-6k on guard wages every period. This is offset by a potential taxation earning of 15k every period, from all of the plots in Abresi.

(Fun fact: Due to a diligent purging of inactives from "the list" by Kralek, this week is about half as expensive as usual.. but I expect next period to be back to normal.)

Statistically speaking, we need only recieve tax from one third of the plots to break even.

As you may have seen in my reports, our Steward team is hard at work to ensure as many plots have active owners as possible. In reality, I expect roughly two-thirds of our plots to provide a stable income.

This means that as soon as tax is levied, we will earn twice as much as we spend.

Keeping in mind that we want to use our surplus for fun events and prize money sponsorship of them.. we will be back in the green in as many weeks as we have spent there, give or take.

Suffice it to say that the "management" of Abresi is not worried in the slightest.. and will continue to have fun roleplaying and sorting affairs for all.

Other tidbits of news (with pictures!):

We now have Auctioneers in the Abresi Auction House!

These amazing npc's will host your items for sale, meaning even people without VIP status can sell items when they are offline. Simply take a stroll to the Auction House and click on the npc to learn how to do this, as all is explained in your chat!

The long-promised Sewer System is finally under construction!

The Abresi sewers, while being scary enough themselves, will play host to a dungeon as well, which is under construction. Expect an official announcement soon!

The Market Square recieved an update, with the old boxing ring being removed to make room for an Announcement Pillar!

Each of the four sides plays host to the highlights of news from four sections of interest: Local news, Kingdom news, News from beyond Oren and (( OOC announcements )).

Keep an eye on this pillar, as it changes news on a near daily basis, to bring the headlines to the citizens of Abresi.

And last, but certainly not least: Im adding a new section to my bi-weekly newsletter/finanacial report: The Plot Spotlight!

This period's spotlight: Raigeki's Ramen Emporium

2013-11-28_105403_zpsd26c5ff7.png

A true ramen shop, this place definately deserves a visit. I myself had a great time as I simply walked in, only to be greeting by an incredibly enthousiastic staff, who -insisted- I tried their noodle soup (and fortune cookie!). It was incredibly tasty, go try it out for yourself!

Last thing before this post is truly done:

This coming weekend will see our local Tavern (The Captured Kha) play host to its first ever Pub Quiz!

Following in a long line of tradition-steeped Pub Quizzes, this event will allow people to attend as a team and attempt to beat the contenders through sheer knowledge, while enjoying all the comforts (and drinks) the Tavern has to offer!

Be sure to attend, as I will most certainly get my own team of Stewards to join me in the merryment ahead!

((The moment we need money, is the moment I will make a poster of my character crying in a corner, cradling his dwindling pile of minas.. so.. give or take a month from now, if the voting plugin does not return. Wont be asking for money if im not entirely sure we need it yet. Having said that, thanks for the offer, much appreciated. :) ))

[[You should talk about the Church more <3]]

Will do actually, soon as the Chapel-section of the Royal Keep is built.

Of course, if I see priests roaming the streets, giving blessings and/or holding sermons in the Town Hall (this is available to you, so use it. contact me if you have questions about this!) then I will be happy to mention events like that taking place.

((Senda you're amazing. Keep up these posts!))

I certainly intend to! Im very fortunate to have a team of dedicated and amazing people around me, that make sure all of this can be "a thing".
