A Guide To Understanding Light Illusions

Now, this has been a long time coming, and I feel this is very needed.

Due to current events, I've noticed not many people really understand how illusions work, and this is mainly due to the magics broad nature. So, I think it's needed to create a Guide to understanding illusions.

Now, the basics of illusions. They come in three strands (This is only light illusion), Glamors, Figments and Phantasm.

Glamors: The idea of simply adding, and or editing an existing object in the world. An example of this would be making a sword slightly longer, or changing a cup of tea, to taste like hot chocolate

Figments: Creating something brand new, or creating something from nothing. An example of this is creating a rock, a pig, or something of the like.

Phantasm: This is an emotional based illusion, where you are able to form emotions in others.

Now that you know the three strands of illusion, let's go over on the "Breaking" of an illusion. This is the most complicated, yet simplest part. The breaking of an illusion is a combination of things, and isn't simply "I know you're an illusionist!1!1!!". When illusions break, it's when the mind understands what it's perceiving isn't in-fact real, this generally means when you know it's an illusion, it breaks. However, if the illusionist is skilled, this will rarely happen. There is one way to break an illusion (Technically two), illogical illusions (Or pain).

Now, this may sound odd, and trust me, this "Illogical Illusions" thing is actually quite a big deal. Now, let's flow back in time and recall all the times you've Rped with an illusionist. Remember that time when you suddenly felt pain, with no image que, or reasoning? Or how about that time when you suddenly felt madly in-love with someone via two emotes. Or how about that one ti- No, you get the idea.

Now, you may remember these situations, and I'm here to tell you, whoever did that was power-gaming and is a bad illusionist (Or new to illusion :3). These examples I've provided are the most common illogical illusions I've seen, which are actually impossible. Illogical Illusions are simply illusions which have or should be, rejected from the mind. The process of illusions is as follows: Connect to Void> Form illusion in Void> Offer it to someones mind> Mind accepts/denys illusion. Now, to explain further what illogical illusions are, they are anything that doesn't really make sense in a Rp, or real world perspective. Pain without imagery, emotions without carefully forming it, imagery simply appearing for no reason.

These can all be combated by a skilled illusionist, however. Pain combined with a sword slashing you, feeling an emotion slowly grow inside you, or instead of pulling an image out of no where, pull it out of you pocket, or a pack. Now, you may be thinking "But Kalameet, illogical illusions are easy to avoid!". My dear friend, I will tell you now, that infact this runs deeper then you'd think. Also, always note that lower tier illusionists can't cover all the senses, and all the details like a Master can. This leaves a lot of room for error.

Now, I will use one of my own Rp experiences of debunking an illusion.

Kalameet steps into the room, his eyes narrow, looking about. He heard a door shut coming from this room, and he has a feeling someone is here. With his vast knowledge of illusions, he decides to test to see if someone is indeed here.

Kalameets eyes dilate, he lifts his hand slowly forming several Arcane orbs. They float about the room, emanating a faint ebony glow. With the many orbs positioned around the room, shadows are cast by the objects in the room. Kalameets eyes scan the room, looking for anything out of the ordinary, suddenly, he spots it. A shadows being cast by nothing, something invisible. The illusion breaks, revealing the crafty illusionist.

You see? There are a lot of details to consider with illusions. Sight, smells, sounds, touch, and tastes even! Light illusions is by far the most broad magic, and is actually quite easy to mess up with.

I'm warning all now, I may have forgotten some notable points, but I will add on to this Guide if I deem necessary.
