An Old Dwarf And His Books

Aerius grumbled as he sat up on the sheets of his hard, old bed. "Stupid sleep.." He mumbled, reaching over for the old, gnarled, wooden staff. With a grunt he stands, gazing around the dark cave he has called his home for the recent years. The old dwarf flips his hood up, gazing to the entrance of the cave, the moonlight flooding into the entrance. "Night... How long was I out..." His right eye ticks, the red pupil dilating as it gets used to the dim light the candles gave off. He notices an empty bottle sitting next to the wall. With an angry shout, he brings the staff towards the bottle, the glass cracking and shattering as it is hit. He grumbles incoherently once again, stepping over to the old, oak wood desk. He gazes at the pile of books and paper, shuffling some to the side, examining them. "Fecking clutter..." He moves over to the candle on the right edge of the desk. He picks it up, moving over to the papers. He tilts the candle, letting the flame lick the edges of an old book. The dry pages quickly alight, the fire spreading quickly from page to page, book to book. He drops the candle onto the floor, gazing at all his work as it burned. All of it... Burning. Thoughts of regret burrow into his mind for a moment. But he dismisses them, turning away from the flames. With a flick of his arm he tosses the staff backwards where it is engulfed in flame. After a breath he starts to walk forwards, snatching up the cold, dark iron staff, a shot of pain running up his arm as he continues forwards. Slowly he walks up the shallow incline to the entrance to the cave. With a sigh he looks out over the trees. He winces, a shadow blocking his vision for a moment before he continues out of the cave, down into the forest as he begins his trek to Malinor, each step coming with a jolt of pain. "I cannot let him return.." He repeats to himself during the trip...
