The halls of the Royal Keep remained silent as the Knighting Ceremony of Kaelys Hightower was soon to begin. The young warrior had worked over the years to fix his reputation, and bring honor back to his name. As the ceremony begins, other Knights of the Decterum formed two lines on each side of the walls within the religious room, the window behind Lord Ailred Ruthern casted the reflection of the Creator's cross onto the floor. All was silent as the ceremony began.

 

The Lord Marshal stood before the Hightower, finally breaking the silence. “Kneel.” he said firmly.

 

Nodding, Kaelys knelt before him, lowering his head and looking down at the ground. Ailred slowly revealed a holy blade from under a cloth and began to speak.

 

“You present yourself to swear a holy oath of servitude in the sights of god and men. To protect the weak and innocent. To Shield the one True Faith and it’s values. To fight for and be loyal only to the One True King of Oren, Heinkrik Carrion the First and the Royal House of Carrion and all heirs born to them.”

 

The Lord took a breath, swallowing. “Do you swear this, in the sights of God and Men?”

 

Kaelys spoke. “I do.”

 

Ailred slowly lowered his blade, resting it gently on the young man’s Left shoulder. “Then arise, Shield of the Faith.” He then lifted the sword, and then moved it to the man’s Right shoulder. “Arise, Spear of the Kingdom.”

 

The Lord Marshal lifted the blade up, and rested it back at his side. “Rise, Knight of the Decterum and the Holy Kingdom of Oren.”

 

Kaelys slowly rises to his feet, looking at the Lord. “Arise, Ser Kaelys Hightower.”

It had been some time since last Vectis threw on his Decterum tabard. To feel the weight of the plate armor on his shoulders, to push himself back into fighting shape reminded him of his roots. Once he was ready, he saddled up his steed, riding towards Abresi. He had not forgotten his oath.
