Can Dwarves Do Magic?

Apparently it's RPly frowned upon along with OOCly for some reason, unless you're a certain clan like Irongut...

but, I don't know if that really holds water anymore since the magic MA change and what not.

According to our lore, only the clan Irongut is able to. This is because that those of clan irongut are part ascended, and therefore allow them to practice magic. Many other clans, unless they are an offshoot of Irongut, are not able to.

Which I think makes no sense. There's no real reason I can see that a dwarf wouldn't be able to use magic. That's not in their curse or anything : P

*shrugs* I didn't write the lore, only follow it.

It's not even in the lore . . .

/ALL/ Dwarves can learn magic.

While all dwarves CAN learn magic, it used to be that only Ironguts, who had ascended decent, were able to. All other dwarves had a resistance to magic, and couldn't use it, if it is drawn from the void.  Though the LT/MAT decided against this and now anyone can.

Once again, I shouldn't really be posting here, but I'll put it this way;

Every dwarf /can/ use magic. Most dwarf will avoid it like the plague. Dwarfs have long memories and hold grudges for a long time, because of the First Iblees War (the one that happened in lore, not Aegis), dwarves are incredibly mistrusting of mages (not druids, clerics or runesmiths - just mages and practioners of the dark arts). After centuries, only the Irongut clan still practiced magic - something they got a lot of flak for - and with it rather well known that Dwain Irongut fathered children with a divine being (an aengul) it was just assumed dwarfs couldn't use arcane magic in the first place and the Irongut clan had the ability to because of their Aengulic blood.

After centuries of indoctrination every dwarf would very much not want to use magic, very much believe only the Irongut clan has even the capability to use magic and would very much distrust and despise mages where they do exist (one of the reasons most Irongut mages keep their abilities secret). While yes - your dwarf can technically use magic, your dwarf shouldn't want to and if you pursued it without being of Irongut descent it is in the words of rittsy "basically metagaming".

[[ This is what it actually was all along... except some people bought into even IC propaganda... ]]

Firstly, the in character part.

The dwarves roleplay that their race's connection to The Void, which is the source of arcane magic, is so weak that they are incapable of learning and using magic. In return, dwarves are capable of runesmithing, which isn't possible for mages to do (they enchant instead). So your normal dwarf isn't capable of doing arcane magic. There is another type of magic that draws from demigod-like creatures called Aengudaemons (which consists of the Aenguls, the Daemons and the Aspects), but those magics are very specific and likely not what you're looking for.

There is one clan of dwarves, Clan Irongut, that has an aengul bound to mortal form in its ancestral bloodline. This "magic blood" was once used to create Ascended, holy warrior mages that fought the Undead Necromancers of the daemon Iblees a hundred years ago in the time of Aegis. Nowadays it gives the Irongut Clan the ability to connect to the Void and learn arcane magic, however, the cost is that they cannot learn to runesmith.

The out of character part.
It isn't against the rules for a dwarf to learn magic, however, if you want to learn magic as a dwarf strictly speaking you should RP that your dwarf is an Irongut or closely related to them.

dwarves can but it's better to follow lore for example im a Grandaxe which have no experience with magic, and because dwarves dont race or believe in magic as much thats why they dont learn it so just be a Irongut if ye want to be a magical dwarfie, also next time just ask somone in forums message er somthing theres not really a need to make a post about somthing small, but this i understand there is many veiwpoints so this is an exception
