MamaBearJade 2090 Share Posted January 4, 2014 After a discussion I had on Team Speak with a GM, I believe we have an idea that should help the community.Don't make Ban Reports and Ban Appeals viewable to the community. How one can do this? Make Ban Reports PM only. You can invite up to 13 people into a PM.Now hear me out before you slam this.Player Reports are meant to report someone for inappropriate behavior, yes? Well, just cause say, Billy said some mean things to Joe, does this mean make a public ban report for people who don't know this person to get an immediate bad view of Billy? No.You can PM a GM, add people to the report that need to be added (if you dont know their Forum name, message them in game or see if the GM can add them). This cuts down on random people jumping into the PM and flaming more.A good example is the recent report on a player with hacking. Do I get a different view of the player because of the report? Yes.I think Player Reports should be and stay private. I am sorry, this is my personal opinion on the matter. It not only shows we can handle a situation better, but also not show up as often for new players to see.Pros:1. Those involved can feel safer with privacy2. The report will be handled quicker3. Less flaming can be done4. Only those involved will be able to post5. Those reported or reporting get less flame OOCly by the community laterCons:1. The reporter can pick a GM that they think will be biased (though I hope GMs can prove this wrong)2. Can clog up PM boxes3. The community doesnt see this and weigh in (both pro and con)4. Can still be leaked (can be fixed by warning/demotion/removal)I also believe ban appeals should be the same way unless the person who did wrong harmed the community as a whole.
ski_king3 0 Share Posted January 4, 2014 Without a doubt I'd say yes. In my opinion, it would deter OOC drama, appeals would be more personal, and if one felt the GM in question was biased, they could easily approach an admin and request that a different GM/Admin handle the ban. I'm sure there are cons that I'm missing out on, but I can't see any daunting flaws as to making these things a private affair.
John Ivory 4546 Share Posted January 4, 2014 I agree, ban reports and appeals should indeed become a private affair; however, the Game Moderator handling the report must make sure that both sides are represented. A multi-way message conversation is the best way to handle this.
Cyndikate 2303 Share Posted January 4, 2014 We can already privately ban report. Just PM a GM about what happened.

ski_king3 0 Share Posted January 4, 2014 We can already privately ban report. Just PM a GM about what happened. Yes, but this would mean that public reports would no longer be an option.
Guest EpicAidana13 Share Posted January 4, 2014 I love reading them though!? But I see what you mean it can make a negative impact on someone

WuHanXianShi14 0 Share Posted January 4, 2014 Yeah I hate public BRs. Just a call for factionalism and popularity contest.
Lark 2227 Share Posted January 4, 2014 Not sure how I feel about this, on one hand, Public Shaming goes a long way, on the other, it causes OOC ****..

SirSnowMan 318 Share Posted January 4, 2014 I feel that having BRs be private could cause some staff members, and players to act in a different attitude, seeing only a small amount of people would only have access to the BR, instead of it being viewed by the entire community. Telanir 6975 Share Posted January 4, 2014 The BR idea sounds nice, but it applies even moreso to Ban Appeals. Ban Appeals should be write-only, not read-write. After a BA is handled, just msg the player or something. x3
Demotheus 651 Share Posted January 4, 2014 I find it odd how seven people chose "no" but didn't give any real reason as to why not, or why this idea isn't a good one. +1 from me.
