1a: Naming

So, you want to roll an elf, or are applying with one? before anything, you must understand: Your elf, be it a wood elf, a dark elf, or any variation. Is not from America, or europe, or any country OOC. Using naming patterns like "john the elf." are not possible, and I doubt lore-abiding.. Mainly, an elf's name will almost always been in their native tongue, that being the elvish language. Though how to make a name that is good sounding, and has sense in lore, while also not appearing as though you picked it? Rather simple. Here is a normal name, and one which is completely bonkers.

Hilea'Hiylu.

Peace, and health. It does not evoke any word which might imply their ability. Though it considers a mother's wish for their life to be peaceful, and healthy.

Draoi'Igne

Corrupted Fire Wizard.. Unless your father was a mage, I have seen people with this name. It implies taint, corruption, and also an affinity for dark magics. It is an unlikely name, and  would most likely only be used  by someone simply trying to make a name from themselves.

You can see simply the comparison is one would be something a mother would name a child, and one would be something a wannabe harry potter would name himself to gain fear.

1b: Naming Conventions & Examples:

As said, elven names always follow the language.. Well, usually. As most elves did not know most of the language until early asulon, if you are an elf from aegis, chances are you'll be born with a name uncommon, and not relating to the native tongue.

I'll put a few examples of good 'first names', before the " ' ". That would be appropriate/sensical, though it is obviously up to you.

Common Male names:

taeleh: mind.
taelu: to learn.

Ian: strong, steadfast.

Ceru: Strong, mighty.

Female:

Mira: warm. can be considered warm heart.

Leyu: graceful, beautiful.

Haelun': mother.. would be used sparsly, though perhaps some mother might name her child this.

Hilea: peace, and all things with it.

An entire dictionary, or near of their language is available here.

These are just a few examples, and they'd vary majorly based on race. These are just a few examples of what a few elves might be named.

2a: The History of the Elves:

The History of the elves is a good deal harder to elaborate on then the other races. Being simply, the elves are the longest lived. We shall start at their creation. Which was told best by the wandering wizard, a man who many supposed was an Aengul, and a protecter of the lands in Aegis, and another tale of a high prince of Malinor.

http://www.lordofthe...ry-of-laurelin/

Though, to truly roleplay an elf, you must know the fact they are not all twenty four year old killing machines. Think of this race as the grandfather, the wise voice in the back of the mortal's head's, that act's as a conscious. As much of the elven history is gone, a simple recap is that during Aegis, Laurilein was the last city standing, or to many, one of them. In Asulon, the elves had been constantly harassed by a continuing onslaught of people, though it was mostly the high elves with their feud with the uruk. They became something of a distaste among many races, and a good few people tried to exterminate them.

In history closer now then to then,  the elves have had two strokes of [bad] luck regarding the humans, and war nearly broke out twice to to the inhospitiable political situation still In Oren. A good deal of riots have formed, and some elves have garnered distaste for humanity, now more then ever viewing them as a mostly lesser species. Though beyond that, the elven society is beginning to crack and crumble, rebellions are being plotted, and civil unrest is growing as the elves change their original system akin to a democracy to a communist state, abandoning mina, and giving paper instead of gold.. Simply, this can impact your characters in any number of ways. Though that is the most recent events occuring at this point and time.

Later on, the great city of Lumaelin was decimated by the forces of Setherin, forcing the Malinorian peoplek to evacuate, and go to a new Malinor. Still blemished by the hardships, and rebellions of the former.

2b: The History of the High Elves.

The History  of the Mali'aheral, pure high elves, or just pure elves. Is not half as long, and not half as wise as their elven cousins. They are born as the aftermath of a few of them delving into a pool of magic, though this is not commonly known, it is believed that is their origin. With this, their true reformation began when a female high elf known as Ellir. She had brought together a good deal of the high elves, and formed a society based on the values of uniformity, purity, and value of their own lives compared to that of other races. More recently, though not overly so. The high elves had been engaged in a war with the orcs, though that ended in Asulon with the destruction of Haelun'or, and the death of a good few of it's citizens; They rebuilt. And with that, they came to Anthos with the other races.

2c: The History of the Dark Elves:

The Dark elves are elves whose background is known very, very little. The only history able to be found that is legitimate is near their time in Asulon, and anthos. They are a race under constant bombardment, and commonly harassed and executed for erroneous charges by other races. This reputation has been garnered by a few unsavory master assassins who claimed to represent the Mali'ker, and they had caused such political unrest that the races had gone through major shift in idealisms, with the elf being hated. This taken out on all races..

2c: The History of the Wood Elves:

Again, nearly no wood elves were recorded nearing the end of Asulon, and Anthos. And their history is vastly underrecorded, though it is said they are the most 'elven' of all the subraces. Caring a good deal for nature, and the things which surround them.

[Nearly no wood elves since early asulon.]

3A:

The true nature of elves is humility, and understanding. Yet by histories unfair presence, they have begun to degenerate into near-human tendencies. Though I shall elaborate on the simple truth, an elf will be kind, and have a fierce love of nature, with the only exception being the Mali'Thil. Whom share far more affection stone, burgeois in a depressing way as a contrast to their kin.

3B:

It is to be said that as not all men are created equal in mind, as are no elves. Some elves find themselves homicidal due to varying circumstances in adulthood. Though the Elven Mind carries a resistance to death unlike the Human, it still succumbs to anger and hatred almost as easily. In the situation of a wood elf, one might cause them infuriating if they were to destroy a tree, or even a forest. Or a high elf, if one were to take away their work in scientific and/or arcane principles.

3C:

As an elf turns nearly an eon old, which is exceptionally rare, there usually comes depression. Over the elves life, he has seen the birth and death of hundreds upon hundreds of generations of people, and watched them fall and make way for the rest. PTSD Is a common symptom of this, though it only happens very late into virility.

4A:

An elf will be tall, gaunt, and usually skinny. In the truth of it, the only physical discrepancy between elven-kind is skin-color, and height. The High Elves are the tallest of the three, towering at usually 7-8"(1" below a large orc). Wood Elves usually standing at about 4", almost nymph-like in stature.

4B:

High Elves are pale skinned, and if pure, only carry gold or silver hair. Their eye color always remains a light violet, or blue. Not red, nor any other stanchest upon the idea, which spits on their culture.

Wood Elves, smallest of their kind, are dark skinned. They usually are dirty, and carry a fondness for nature. 4" In height, they are sometimes known for a nepolean complex in combat, with their only abilities as such being the bow.

Dark Elves, black skinned as if ashen. Are almost always thin, and carry red eyes due to whatever heritage.

Written in late-Elyisium and early-Anthos, the outdated parts of this guide will be updated as time goes on to fit the Elven Subrace. If a new player, or just someone who wishes to roll an elf, I hope you find this guide enjoyable. Thank you, and all the best.

-cries softly, as a wood elf who was in in Asulon and currently in Anthos-
