I would like to mention I made a post very similar to this in May of 2012 but I think since we are getting closer to 4.0 every day it would be a good idea to bring this idea up for the new map. if anyone has played World Of Warcraft before you know what a dungeon is. It's basically an instance you enter with a group of four others. You are required to fight through mobs with your group to encounter the final boss before completing the dungeon. As you make your way through the dungeon, players receive money and other loot as they kill the mobs . What I envision when  I think of this in Lord Of The Craft is an instance such as the mines where once you enter them you are almost in another world where no one can interfere with you. There would be a que for a group to enter into the instance and start the game. Each player could receive an iron sword to defend themselves with as they battled the oncoming mobs. There could be rare drops such as special named weapons or armor with small buffs on them. The bosses could be buffed creatures that the game already has such as spiders or zombies and have them deal a lot more damage and contain more health than the average mob. Also there could be different roles each person could follow such as healer, Dps, and Tank with tank receiving armor to wear and reduce damage. Each instance could last up to 15 minutes and within that time it would be up to your healer to keep you alive. So what do you think? Like the idea? Hate the idea? Please give me feedback and your thoughts.

Already planned for 4.0. We're going to have a ton of dungeons and we have a plugin that allows the creation of instances of dungeons with generated loot and monsters. It won't be exactly like you described, but i'm almost certain they will be entertaining for you and others.

Additionally, in the next couple of days I will post a discussion thread on what people want on dungeons since I'm about to start my designs for the dungeons in 4.0. I just need to get my mitts on the world lore so I can keep my designs lore-friendly.

If you have any input or ideas for dungeons etc. then i'd be happy to read and comment on them, just shoot me a PM or Skype me.

Put named items in the dungeons.

Special gems, old trinkets, et cetera. Archeological thingies like that, that would be cool.

Alright, I'll get some ideas made and see if I could be of any assistance.

Don't worry, there'll be a ton of that! Archaeological stuff I always found very interesting. There will be a lot of history in the 4.0 world we can utilize to create lots of neat items that will hopefully intrigue players and keep them entertained. If you spend enough time collecting artifact-type items you should be able to piece together the history of the place, which would be really cool.

Players often complained that there wasn't enough non-combative content to do on Anthos and the other continents, so we're addressing that in 4.0, or that all content required PvE or PvP to fully enjoy. There will be multiple types of dungeons and locations to find, some requiring combat, some not. Hopefully that will satisfy our more peaceful players as well as the bloodthirsty ones.

Will this loot be per player/group or just one copy like normal Minecraft stuff? It would suck if you went through a huge dungeon and lost several people to the hordes of mobs and finally get to the end only to realise that some other guys had come earlier and taken it.

As I am aware, inHiB [the dungeon plugin], creates an instance for the player's group. The group then runs through the dungeon and once they finish it, the dungeon goes down onto a "cooldown period" where nothing spawns and the dungeon is closed. After a period of time (hopefully somewhat randomized to prevent farming), the dungeon resets and re-opens for the next group to come along.

Here's the thread that inspired it, if you're curious.

Are there going to be various dungeons that players will be able to play in or are you currently working on only one at the moment?

Planning various dungeons. At launch i'm planning on having one multi-stage 'raid like' dungeon that will be the biggest - tons of lore and exploring and all that fun stuff. We'll have smaller dungeons too, hopefully 4 or 5 by release. I'm just waiting on world lore to be done before I start.

Would be neat to have a barren desert, and have a big excavation party dig up the sand to find some lost city of ancient power, containi g treasure and endless labyrinths n traps. Makes it more dynamic, instead of a static cave with hardly any interaction at all.

But then people would have to landscarr and entire desert looking for it unless they were OOCly told where it was which would ruin the fun.
