Medi’iran (First and Second)

Two officials shall be elected by the Mali’aheral to serve as the Sohaer’s executive cabinet.  The Underlings shall operate as advisory and secondary authorities beneath the Sohaer, and shall perform his or her duties, should he/she be unable.

Therefore, all duties of the Sohaer are the inherited property of the Medi’iran in circumstances of emergency or absence.  Below are the designated duties of the Medi’iran, which must be performed whilst an active Sohaer is in power. Due to their great responsibility, citizens are encouraged to refer to them as “laurir.”

Duties of the Medi’iran

1.) Maintenance.  The library and all responsibilities of its upkeep are the imperatives of the Medi’iran.

2.) Infrastructure.  The appointment of Tilruiran to position and assignment of duties to these Tilruiran is also the responsibility of a Medi’ir.

3.) Counsel.  It is the job of the Medi’ir to provide counsel to the Sohaer in order to better inform decision making.  Therefore, Medi’ir must be well informed of all matters involving the City, both in domestic and foreign matters.

4.) Aiding and abetting.  The Medi’ir must provide aid to the Sohaer in all ways possible to help him/her perform his/her duty.

5.) Economy.  Management of trade and designation of trading partners of the state are responsibility of the Medi’iran.

6.) Service.  The Medi’iran must be at the service of the city, with no task for the betterment of all below himself/herself.  The Medi’iran shall perform any task for the advancement and health of the Mali’aheral beneath his or her power.

7.) Example.  More than anything, the Medi’iran shall represent the best aspects of all Mali’aheral and serve as a role-models for all. With exceptional purity, and exceptional citizenship, the Medi’iran must demonstrate for each citizen the pinnacle of Mali’aheral expectation for behaviour.

"It is with a heavy heart that today I, Volet Lyu'medin, must highlight a Medi'ir's refusal to their sixth listed duty of service. Delonna Aeleyelsa, whom I hold in very high regard and praise for their success in servicing the city, failed today in his duty.

"During a discussion in which a mali'aheral mentioned, 'the triumvirate's decision on the mali'ker', I began to inquire in regards to the nature of the reference. As he outright refused to answer my questions on the discussion occurring in our elected government, I grew more persistent. I highlighted his fault in denying me the information, to which he responded 'it does not concern you', and stating, 'I prefer citizens don't go out of their way to bother people about government discussions'.

"With this sort of attitude displayed in a public setting among a group of elmali'aheral, I can not help but feel that Mr. Aeleyelsa has lost sight of what it means to serve as Medi'ir. The position of a public servant should not be taken for granted and I fear it has in this case. Even more unsettling, however, is the fact two of my fellow citizens in fact reinforced this ideology; Mr. Eleron and another I have not yet acquainted with. It was only once I began to reinforce my argument and that Mr. Caelria joined the dialogue and voiced his agreement that Mr. Eleron switched his platform, and the other elf quieted down.

"As I stated orally at the time of the encounter, we cannot allow authoritarian practices to go unacknowledged or unpunished. We must have a cihi where mali'aheral may inquire as to their government freely and without impediment. This is why I believe we began to elect officials by majority of the people. Let us not confuse ourselves, lest we forsake our chiefest and most revered principle,

maehr'sae hiylun'ehya."

The paper can be found posted in the tavern, in the barracks of elsillumir, in the hall of magi, and by the gate.

Iatrilemar speaks up "Delonna obviously had not cemented the subject with the Sohaer yet and therefore would have stirred pre-mature controversy within the walls. We have elected them to lead us, and their work will be slowed if they are forced to converse with us about every single temporary detail. Let them do their work and show us the results. Do I have you babysit me while I prepare the tea at the inn? No, I prepare it then serve it to you."

Know this, Volet, should you challenge Delonna's seat on the triumvirate and by chance emerge victorious— It shall be I who challenges the seat, your seat, next.

I did not become Sohaer by having no friends beyond these Silver walls. Forces conspire in this world of which you are not even aware.

Delonna lets out a sigh as he pins up a response.

If we were to simply openly reveal every stage of every discussion to be had before it was ready, how do you expect us to hide -anything- at all from those who seek the knowledge for ill-purposes? Keeping plans at least partly hidden until they're ready to be revealed is not only prerogative to those who make the plans, but it is common practice among all societies, not excluding the Mali'aheral one.

Members of the Triumvirate -cannot- throw all caution to the wind, just because one Mali'aheral is curious. We've gained many members in the more recent years, and it would be foolish to blindly assume all are going to remain completely loyal. We've had High Elves infiltrate us in the past for the sake of trying to steal knowledge and plans, so do you propose we simply open ourselves up to subterfuge?

With the response to not being pre-maturely informed of the knowledge he desired, I cannot help but feel that Mr Volet has confused the role of a public servant with that of an outsider accepted to serve. The way he simply started demanding he get what he wanted was comparable to the demands of a self-entitled child. No Mali'aheral is obliged to hand out all of their knowledge, if they deem that the Mali making demands doesn't require it. Especially when said knowledge involves the political spectrum in a land filled with conflict and instability.

If not allowing plans to be pre-maturely revealed is something you consider an authoritarian practice, I'm sorry to inform you that you're terribly naive as to the workings of the world around you. As this is, at times not only acceptable, but necessary. Carrying on and making demands when one doesn't get their way however, is not necessary nor acceptable.

maehr'sae hiylun'ehya,

Medi'ir Delonna Aeléyèlsa.

Azorella huffs and puffs and pins up a small note,

Perhaps it is not so much a neglect in duties as it is a repetitive and blatant disrespect for constituents and his lack of tact that Delonna is most at fault for. However, unless absolutely called for, this secretive nature of the government seems most undesirable. Even when I held a position as Medi'ir, the other Triumvirate members admitted to neglecting to inform and discuss with me many critical matters with the excuse that it 'did not concern' me. (Even matters concerning violent behaviors that threatened to harm Lin'evaral.) Such behavior begs the question of whether these administrators of the office are merely keeping dangerous information out of the hands of 'untrustworthy' citizens, or whether they have a more heinous reasoning behind their silence. What one does not know cannot possibly hurt them, right?

However, one would highly suggest Delonna brush up on his manners before he brushes another of his fellows the wrong way. Perhaps it would save us all some trouble in the future since this is not the first notice that I have seen regarding his brash demeanor. Simple requests shouldn't stir up riots like this. Honestly, are we crude Valah?

Simply because a conversation may seem inconvenient, does not make it unworthy of its while.

As based solely upon the postings, since I obviously wasn't present at this mishap, one may also note that Volet seems, in fact, somewhat entitled to the information he requested, since, he is, as far as I'm informed, a Tilruir'sil, no? One who holds responsibility for the security of a nation ought know what goes in and out of it, otherwise they wouldn't be performing their duties very well.

Mali'aheral are not like mere Orenian citizens, but are all leaders in their own right.

And finally, good Delonna, if your notice summarizes all of your objections to informing Volet of what he asked for, couldn't a courteous, "Apologies llir, I cannot inform you of that information at this time." have sufficed? or even a quick, "Apologies llir, I cannot inform your person, but be assured that your superior officer knows enough of the information you request to ensure the security of the Mali'aheral." One needn't be a rude Valah, goodness.

Reason masked by brashness is hardly reasonable at all.

maehr'sae hiylun'ehya, lliran'ayla. May the pure spread wisdom and health amongst the pure.

-Azorella Coulissante

With another harumph, Azorella notes that her short note was not at all short, wrinkles her nose, and marches off with a long step to her stride.
