Ooc The Orcs.

I've been doing some lurking too :p

I don't have the time like I use to back in Aegis and Anthos. Less time = less fun so I eventually lost interest. If we could bring back the oldies that would help a ton but I fear most of them have lost entire interest themselves and a ton of the projects that were in the works gone with them.

I also still hate our language and forever will.

I've only made short-lived Orc characters (only stopped due to a lack of time to spend roleplaying), but by far what interested me most was the fantasy side to it all. Some of the behavior I've seen by recent Orcs is really just like big, dumb, green humans. In order to be a great race, it can't be like that! The culture is what makes it all fun - I remember the Shurr'Dru stories written by Blawharag back in the day and can only imagin how fun and exciting that must have been. I think of Mogroka and the many Shamans, the emphasis on spirituality and Shaman magic, it's wonderful.

Really, what I'd like to see in 4.0 is a focus on the Orc fantasy... Great hunting trips, tribal warfare, spiritual spells. It's a beautiful thing in its own way, and deserves to shine.

This is something a lot of us have really wanted for a while. One of the things we really need is for enough orcs to actually get active and starting rp'ing the culture. I think one problem is that a lot of people don't really know the culture. They just kind of assume that an orc is, as you said, a big, dumb, green human. They make an orcs skin and slap some armor on it, but they don't put any personality in it. They don't really give their characters any goals or thoughts. So, I think more people need to realize that orcs aren't all supposed to be mindless and hollow. Yes, orcs are violent. They like to raid, kill and pillage; but they also have (or should have) everyday lives that happen off the battlefield. There IS an orc culture. People just need to start rp'ing it.

Thankfully, a lot of orc rp'ers are realizing this, and we've been taking some steps to revive actual rp. As you may see from the new Shamans subforum ( http://www.lordofthecraft.net/forum/377-shamans/ ), we're trying to encourage more spiritual rp amongst orcs by training shamans and forming shamanistic cults that allow non-shamans membership so they can take part in orc religion. There was also a recent meeting between orc leaders in which we talked about job creation (butchers, slavers, etc) and simple cultural things like that to make the orcish settlements feel more alive. We're also planning to make mass sacrifices a regular event, in which orc raiding bands go out, capture non-orcs and bring them back for the shamans to sacrifice. This, of course, not only gives orcs something to do, but allows non-orc rp'ers to experience a taste of the spiritual side of orc culture. I'm actually considering a forum post about the culture that people interested in making orcs can read, and actually know what orc life is supposed to be; instead of just seeing some orcs raiding (or just trolling as too many orcs are prone to do these days) and thinking "Oh! I know all about orcs now!" Such a post would obviously take a while to get together, but I'll have a lot more time with my classes ending soon.

I'll do what I can to get somewhat active and help with memories of the old ways. I'm also going to be trying to get away from the Blah and the overly-mutant body proportions. I've started to dislike it for some reason, so my orc will be from a wayward nomad clan of mongrels that speak more of a barbarian dialect and is more proportionate to the size of a strong man. I really think we need to start straying away from so many of the more obvious WoW and Warhammer references.

The priority right now is getting orcs active online, which of course might be delayed as we all sorta mill around waiting for 4.0. But we need to try to start getting online and simply role-playing and sharing ideas. Don't wait for the older players to start anything, they're not. Two years ago Mogroka and roughly ten of us walked into a ghost town of an orc nation and just started talking and role-playing and within months our active population was hitting 30+. From what I've heard, there are about ten active orcs right now, so it's doable. We just need a solid, active leader or two and some lieutenants with a handful of ideas to roll with it and see what happens.

I'll throw down with my new orc when I can, probably closer to 4.0 release and I'll probably be using Ned Lud'Gorkil as one of those Muyakelg when the time is right.

Well hi friends. I just got off school. I rolled an orc after hearing that you guys were in need of players. I can't promise that I'll be extremely active, as I've still got full-time commitments during the summer, but I'll be around to try to make some things happen. My first suggestion is that while idea-crafting is great, the best way to get the ball rolling is to just rp and make yourselves visible. I haven't seen an orc yet in my time spent running around on the server.

I think the placement of the Orc settlement in 4.0 will REALLY help you guys out, heck the placement of everything is going to help everyone out really.  Very centralised.  I'd say just hold on until the new map, get one set place that new players can find you, and RP and klomp till the sun goes down.

Yeah the location is very nice and took me back to Aegis and the days when we used to have random people strolling into town to spit on us and test their mettle. Hope to see more of that. We really need to get the momentum going now though, even though it's an expendable map, just get players online. Old players can settle on what characters they're rolling and new players can get acquainted with the basics so when we make the move, we can roll right into the thick of things.

Maybe we host a tournament each week? Turn that noisy moo-moo pit into a klompin' pit and reward the winner with some prize (or nothing!). People can make an orc and come along, but no pinkiez.

Good idea brotherpig.

Why "no pinkiez"? The more interaction with other races, the more roleplay. It's often difficult for the orcs to roleplay amongst themselves simply because it's typically a group of good friends. Throw in pinkiez and you get more roleplay.

That's how I see it, at least.

Yeah. Perhaps if they win they get to be an honourable orc. Makes more people able to go around the orcish city and RP.

I mean that other players can create orcs so they get a taste of the atmosphere and how to roleplay as an orc. A klomp tournament with more pinkies then orcs will be just weird.

And you're right, the orcs speak as much on teamspeak as they do in-game at the moment.
