What The Orcs Need

 Share

Recommended Posts

Title should be 'What I Think the Orcs Need.' Hindsight is 20/20.

Just to warn, I really haven't been an orc for that long. I started one in 5 or so months ago, but even at the height of my play time as him I didn't do much.

The orcs have this cycle of people coming and try to fix them by doing whatever they think orcs need, like a strong leader or altered succession rules or **** like that. Atleast that's what I have seen since I've cared about orcish OOC 'politics'. I'ma take my stab at that.

Orcs just don't RP. I really think that's a major problem with them. Why don't orcs RP? Because they can't. Really, what can an orc do. Here is a life-span of an orcish character, from what I've seen.

Orc joins! If their lucky, there's some ritual or something they can do. A few hours of RP at most.

They get situated, get a blarg, yadadada, etc. Maybe a few hours aswell.

Nothing. Not absolutely nothing, but mostly. If they join shamans, maybe a bit more RP. Sometimes they RP at feasts or something. Really that's mostly trolly, light hearted RP. Maybe they go to a sacrifice. Decent RP, but really a spectator sport for the non-shamans. A tourney. Extremely trolly.

When I was an orc, even when I was a Wargoth (for like 2 days), I PVPed twice as much as I RPed. And that's a pretty much including saying 'Ug' and walking away from someone.

There's something missing from Orc RP, that every other race has. FREEDOM!

There is no freedom in orc RP, at all. You can't go to Alras and do anything other then raid or fight. You can't join a guild, which is one of the largest sources of roleplay. You are stuck raiding or RPing with the other orcs, which doesn't leave much.

The funnest RP I had as an orc was not fighting. It was not raiding. It was not a shaman ritual. It was diplomacy, basically. That was the only way I could /really/ RP with other races. And I did a very little of that.

That's not the only problem, in my opinion. Orcs are also a race that 'force' OOC conflict.

For example; You raid the snelves. We all know what raids are. Maybe a few lines of RP, basically 'KRUG KRUG KRUG KRUG', followed by 'PVP DEFAULT!' That is just going to leave a bad taste in peoples mouth, especially if you raid them so often. (I'm against raid limits. In an ideal world, the limit should be 'don't be a ****.').

Maybe you rob someone on the road. They have an RP book that they spent hours writing, or a named item that is really important to their rp. You don't know this, but still. They have 2 options. They give you their items, and risk just being killed once you give them your ****, or they book it, forcing PVP, which will leave a bad taste in their mouth.

There's other stuff, but I think this is some of the main stuff.

And yes, I realize this stuff is basically orcish identity, but that doesn't make what I've said an less valid.

So, how do we fix the orcs (if they need fixing)?

Open up orcish RP. Allow orcs to mingle with everyone else. Make it so that cities don't have to worry when orcs come running into them. I think that is the only way that orcs will ever have RP, and will be a 'successful race.' They also need to be less dicks. I'm not saying that we are dicks, but we really seem like dicks when we barely RP and PVP constantly.

I have more to say, but I might edit it in or just reply to the topic.

Back in Aegis I remember a distinct Orc Clan that would cause trouble with the nation itself. They had all the freedom and RP they wanted, with the side fun of Orcish PvP.

Winners make due.

If you want RP, create it.

A few clans have been free to join whatever guild they wanted. There were orc Teutons if I remember right. There were those corrupt orc guys, Kaxil I think they were.

But the vast majority didn't have that freedom, from what I've seen.

I hung out in Conclave murdering elves. That was the most fun I've had on my pastry orc.

Back in Aegis when the Blah was optional, there was an Orc guard captain in Oren, and there were Orc FOA and stuff who spoke perfect common(and weren't breaking Blah lore at that time) and no one found it at all strange. Things have changed since then and and Orc can't just go off and join a random guild now. A lot of guilds won't accept him and if one does then he can forget about ever going near the other Orcs again since he's now a whitewash.

You know why they had the freedom to RP instead of PvP, or in your case sit on the forums and complain?

They made RP.

You see them as "corrupt" or "Whitewash", yet you don't see them complaining about a lack of RP, infact I bet they have much more fun than the orcs that dislike PvP.

I think that was his point, Areon. I think he was trying to say that they had fun because of what they were doing.

By the way, just as a side note, the Kaxils were extremely corrupt. They cannibalized other orcs, worshipped Iblees, practiced dark magic and joined the Harbingers.

I know they were corrupt. But guess what. They had fun RPing, instead of complaining on the forums.

If you're gonna spout your opinion don't be an absolute **** about it, bud.

Moving on,

Orcs, right now they're like LOTR orcs, they raid, kill, pillage, do bad guy things. Make them be more like TES Orcs, (Tough, Violent, but still smart, intelligent and not retardedly bloodthirsty).

I know the orcish curse is bloodlust and **** but like I said, play it out like Orcs from the Elder Scrolls, they're tough, violent and they shed a lot of blood, but they also have honour (which LOTC orc raiders never have) and they mingle freely in other race's society often.

A blah-common dictionary might help too.

Some orcs go off the beaten path and it seems that they get it the best temporarily, but notice they still get bored from lacking RP. Orcs are a very restricted race, their culture can save them temporarily with some great lore, but that is about it. Also, maybe if orcs worked together to make RP a bit more serious, rather than it always being slightly trolly, you guys will do better.

Hello, I am stephensj, and from my knowing, the last whitewash orc that has gone on in at least a month. The reason I still play my orc after 1 1/2 years is because I play a whitewash, a orc that mingles with non-orcs. If you want to make a whitewash orc, expect to be shot down. Last time a large number of whitewash orcs appeared, a thread was made by the orc leaders stating that you pretty much had to write a essay why your orc didn't feel like staying around the UZG. That thread brought down the whitewash population by about 3/4. So, I believe that only people who are experienced in orc lore, have been on the server at least 6 months will have a chance at making a successful whitewash. If anyone wishes to make a whitewash orc, feel free to PM me and ask about how to play a whitewash without being shot down.

I think this is different from complaining. I tried not to act like I was absolute in my opinion. I agree, maybe this sense of 'freedom' is mainly in my mind, but I'd say there is atleast a little bit of lack fo freedom of RP for orcs.

I don't play my orc much, because I find it not so fun. I admit I haven't tried to create RP. Maybe I will get the will power to go on and try to make reforms I want, but I don't think I'm a capable leader and that's really what the orcs would need for this stuff to be implemented. But there's probably a better way to make the orcs RP better.

Really, I think there's an atmosphere around the orcs of non-rp. Sometimes there is RP, sometimes clans are good about it for a bit. Azogs when there was that Kaxil-Azog war period, they were great. There was really always RP. But in the Fringes it's kinda faded out a lot more.

I dunno man, I could be completely wrong. Just, the limited thinking I've given this, it seems like these are problems and these are solutions. Maybe their not problems, I don't know for certain.

I couldn't find any not-so passive aggressive gifs, sorry :^(

The Azogs made due, Erik and Maur were both Sariants in the Teutonic Order as well as prominent people in their clan. (Can't remember niso's orc, but him too)

My first character was also an orc, albeit I wasn't the best RPer in the world, I had other non-orcish friends to RP with, which even though it got me in some "sticky" situations, It still generated RP.

If he's not offended it's not breaking the rules :^)

You certainly seem to be an outlier then.

I've heard it used to be different, but currently it is pretty restrictive.
