[Feedback] Community Fix.

Now most of you will rage because hey, its Teers, why is she coming to this thread, and posting this?

 

But I’ve noticed something everyone is guilty of, myself included.  As well as other things, that this server needs to do, to save itself from self destruction.

 

1st.  Look around, take a note of who’s around you.  How many of these people have you slighted oocly, insulted, angered, and just been a **** to?  If there is only maybe 1 or 2, then keep going about your way.  You’re doing a lot better than most of this server.  However if you go around the map, and just see more and more, you need to work on it.  I’m guilty of this just as much as others.  

 

2nd.  If you do this, and you don’t just want nothing to do with this person.  And that is for extreme cases.  Everyone has those, just someone you don’t want to be around, then just avoid them.  Do what I do, if you see them just disengage and leave, you don’t need to hate constantly, sure you can state your opinion, but do it privately, not in a way to end up hurting others.  If you aren’t that far to that person, talk to them, get everything straightened out.  Look at me and Jade, we talk once in a while, but besides that we have a mutal respect to just leave each other alone to avoid any instances like we’ve had in the past.  Its something everyone needs to work on, I mean if I can do it, and I’m Sha, then can’t you?

 

3rd.  Actually think about what you do, don’t go insulting people, don’t just say no one likes you, don’t tell them to kill themselves, don’t try to completely separate them from the servers players.  Come on, if you don’t like someone no ones asking you to be their buddies, but asking your friends to attack that person, to harass them, is that really needed?  No.  Infact its a quick way for you to get banned off the server.  Harassment isn’t funny, especially with how young our player base is.  Some of the stuff that happens, I’m actually surprised LOTC hasn’t been sued for someone trying to kill themselves.  And its not LOTC’s fault, its the playerbase.  

 

4th.  If a player is new, be nice to them.  When I see a new player that runs past me, with no money to buy food, I give them between 10-100 mina just to help em out.  I’ve had people take me under their wing to help me rp, we should do the same to others.  If someone’s rp sucks, talk to them, private message, give them advice.  Sure its not always received well, we’ve all rejected people’s ideas for this.  But at least give them an open hand, if they choose to listen then good for them!

 

5th.  LOTC we need to be more friendly to each other, if you get banned by someone, yes you must have been breaking some form of rules, I’ve been banned 2 times, I’m over it.  I don’t resent anyone.  I’ve been told to kill myself by players, don’t resent that.  If I get to the point that I can’t stand anyone, then just block them, avoid them, and don’t talk to them.  Its not that hard.  

 

Now look around again, how many people around this map are to that point, 1 or 2, then you’re ok, but those others, just suck up your pride, and apologize.  I’ve said sorry to people countless times for various things.  I mean yes its tough, but it gets easier over time.  And LOTC would be much less toxic without it.  We’re slowly killing ourselves off, we do need to work on this.  Admins, Gm’s, Staff members, and players like.  

 

I know this isn't much, but we all need to work on this, and if we do, we will end up becoming much less hostile towards each other.

I reckon the community is actually going into a positive direction now. Most of the prickish people have left, and Oren for one, is more friendly towards new people. But then again, we're a very hostile nation ICly.

I dunno, there isn't a way to fix people's opinions really..

Lord of the Craft did used to be a good place. You will find people caring and willing to get to know people but you have to be blind if you don't see the kind of awful stuff thats floating around. It's happening all the time, it happens everywhere you go, but we barely do anything about it. Bullying is a real thing. It happens, I think we can all agree on that. That's not to say that it should be shrugged off. In many cases, you can just shrug it off but sometimes it's really not that easy to do. You can hide behind your own false belief that this doesn't happen, that you dont do it but you do. People tend to hear something about someone, and just follow the pack, do what will get you in with the cooler crowd (so to speak).

 

I know that there are good people here, but there are also some very cruel ones.. On many occasions the bullying that goes around isn't one sided. It's a constant war, you'll see plenty of it if you visit the ban reports thread. On the occasion that there is harassment, or bullying in the server that is one sided, it's barely dealt with. Unless it's sexual, or very extreme; very little happens. It is a rule, and so long as people can get away with breaking it-- it will continue to happen, and more people will get hurt and leave. If we want our community to grow, we're losing the wrong people. We are growing, definitely, but the people coming in are being absorbed by people who have a natural desire to throw stones at the weird ones out. It's as if there has to be someone to take on that role and it's not fair.

 

Bullying, and harassment that is linked to LotC needs to be dealt with much firmer, with much more strict punishments. You can write one thing about how "You brought it upon yourself" when that's never the case at all. If you don't like someone because of the way they are, that's your problem. If you find you don't like this particular person, or they've done something awful to you don't counter it and begin a war. Dont spread rumors,  keep them to yourself. Come on guys, i'm sure we all learned how to respect each other in primary school. Sometimes I feel like a bigger majority of the community here act like kindergartners.

I agree, bullying has seem to become an issue on the server. Even in stuff promoted by GMs and Media Team. It's all really stupid, I just try to avoid people I don't get along with. *shrugs*

All these Baes just need to chillaxe! jk, in all seriousness... The Community is doing well right now, but there is always room for improvement. People should listen to what Teerz is saying here because in all honesty, a friendlier community is a happy community. If everyone can do a small part in making the community happy, it is well worth it in the end.

Honestly bullying/harassment in general needs to be taken more seriously. That is a person being affected. You can try to shrug it off but everyone has feelings and yes stuff gets to us. Often people lie and say they're fine just to avoid others looking down on them because look at how people who are bullied get treated by society. Told to get a tougher skin, to suck it up, all kinds of BS.

We need to not blame the victim, that just makes things harder on them. If someone is being bullied then go after the bully! Actually punish them, don't just ignore it and hope that they stop because that's just showing them they can get away with it.

The community is no worse than it was last year or the year before. In fact, it's improved. The only change in mentality I've seen is an increase in over-sensitivity. Obviously, there are still trolls and assholes. But they've always been here and always will be. Old ones leave and new ones come in.

 

I will concede that bullying is a real thing, and I think most people can agree with this. Cyberbullying, on the other hand, is folly. The internet is a magical place filled with real people with real feelings. Unlike the real world, however, internet people can be avoided by the simple click of a button! One button and all the cyberbullying goes away. If you are being "cyberbullied", get off the computer for a few hours.

 

Still, it would be great if everybody did suddenly become friendly and adopt a mentality you elaborate on in your post.

I dont think this thread is entirely directed towards Teerz. A lot of people get bullied due to LotC. Leave your personal experiences out of this thread, and work to change something serious?
