Cyndikate 2303 Share Posted June 4, 2014 I haven't built anything fancy for years and I'm thinking of building a giant druid like tree for my character to live in. For those of you who have seen the tree in the conclave, that was an example of the tree I'm interested in building. I'd like to know 1.) How exactly are trees like that built? 2.) If creative mode, or an ET builder was involved in the construction? or if it was done by hand [Am I allowed to ask for creative?] 3.) How long it took you to complete the construction, whether it's done by hand, or through the assistance of a GM, ET Builder, or use of creative? CosmicWhaleShark 2488 Share Posted June 4, 2014 If you're referring to the birch trees around the lake, those were copied and pasted from a single tree in Malinor. Because it was in Malinor, it's likely creative was used by the build team for 3.0.

Cloakedsphere 1471 Share Posted June 4, 2014 Do NOT build a tree by hand without an ET builder. They always turn out like crap. I built the current druid tree in the fringe and that took me a couple hours using world edit. I used nothing by hand except for the vines around it. I highly suggest no one take on the task of building their own massive tree. The druids tried that and build a landing pad for the starship enterprise and everyone knows what happened with that tree near the spawn of the fringe. I suggest you just plant normal saplings and make a small forest.
Korvic 930 Share Posted June 4, 2014 Most good giant trees are made with WE and/or Voxel Sniper. You theoretically CAN make it by hand, but only if you know what you're doing. I'd suggest to make one on a flat world with no dirt around the bottom, save it as a schematic, and propose it to a GM.

I didn't expect to ask or get any help from staff at all let alone needing it. If I was permitted to, I'd step into their defense since that tree near spawn didn't look finished at all. There weren't any leaves. Shiftnative, I love you for this. I like this. It's like when Shiftnative was building the trees, it's as if he was winging it without calculating the tree's dimensions, or planning ahead. It seems so spontaneous. I like it. Alan 1815 Share Posted June 4, 2014 Contrary to what others will tell you, it is indeed possible to build a good looking tree in survival mode. I built all of my "Druid" trees back in Aegis 100% by hand, and I even earned the title of Tree Lord for being able to do so; it just takes practice. Nowadays even with the assistance of VoxelSniper and WorldEdit I only use them for the purpose of speeding up the process, but the resulting trees aren't much better now than they were then. Obviously not everyone can do this, but I suggest giving it a try before resorting to asking someone else for help or even creative (which we wouldn't give out for a personal build). Thank goodness it's a possibility. I don't mind putting 12 or so hours into building it, because again, I don't expect help from GMs, ET members or even getting creative. cmack1028 549 Share Posted June 4, 2014 As Ritts said, it certainly is possible to build big trees in survival. It takes a lot of time, makeshift scaffoldings and practice, but it can be done. Use Shift's guide to learn the basics, practice in creative until you get your bearings and then finally attempt it on the server. The canopy will be the trickiest part, so make sure you understand how to do them well from the guide.
