Kazradin Mountain Boar

The foothills of Kazradin, a region the dwarves of Urguan now call their home, hide many different creatures native to the area. While wolves and the occasional bear roam the woods, no beast quite can quite surpass the impressiveness of the Kazradin mountain boar. Strong and bulky, these beasts can reach high velocity in a matter of seconds. The last place anyone would want to be, is in the middle of such a stampede. If the hooves won’t finish you off, the long tusks protruding from its mouth will.

The Kazradin Mountain Boar is usually seen solitary, but once a year, during the mating season, the boars gather in large packs, the males clashing tusks to prove their dominance. The typical foods of the mountain boars usually consist of roots, berries, fresh saplings and fungi, however there have been sightings of individuals with a more varied, carnivorous diet, such as snakes, lizards, eggs and small mammals.

Even the boldest of dwarves have attempted to tame the magnificent Kazradin Mountain Boar, although the only rewards reaped from their effort have been ruptured organs and broken bones. It was quickly discovered that a full-grown boar would never be a fit candidate for taming. Instead, another tactic has been used, where young piglets are snatched from their mothers early in their infancy, then trained and cared for by dwarven masters. So far, this has been the only way to prevent the piglets from growing to become the wild, unhinged beasts of their own nature. At the age of two to three years, the fully fledged mountain boars are large and strong enough to become beasts of burden, and the strongest of them will have the opportunity to become mounts of the dwarven military. While the practice of stealing a newborn piglet is still happening to this day, more as a sport than a necessity, most of the new generations are bred from the existing pool of tame boars.

The Kazradin battle boars are strong and resilient, but they require a lot of training and discipline. Other domesticated animals are still preferred as beasts of burden, such as horses and cows, being both cheaper and requiring less effort to make them a productive investment. On the other hand, the boars are largely the preferential, both as a dwarven mounts and battle-companions. Most of the common boars belonging to the average legionnaire wear simple leather harnesses, while the boars belonging to more wealthier and prestiged individuals can be seen with various protective gear, ranging from metal plated protection, to chainmail.

Dwarven Cavalry units are usually seen with either axes or spears as they ride their boars into battle, some also preferring a shield for maximum protection.

More knowledge the key.

Kailon, as a forest dwarf & keen breeder, would like to know where all this has been taking place. He'd love to raise boars.
