Bawd 222 Share Posted August 27, 2014 Hey. So, from what I've seen, the Druids aren't particularly happy with what we know of the upcoming Magic Plugin. The reason a lot of us are unhappy, it would seem, is that it's become clear that a lot of nature-related magic will be available to anyone who meditates, despite that being the Druids' area of control. This raises the issue of Attunement - The process a Druid must go through in order to connect with the Aspects and gain access to Druidic magic. Surely, it can't be too difficult to give Druidic spells a simple check to see whether or not the person attempting to learn is Attuned? This could be handled through a spell given to higher-ranked Druids, who would Attune new Druids in much the same fashion as before. Attunement takes a single Druid to perform. The next issue is Unattunement - Assuming that the first isn't a problem, this shouldn't be either. Unattunement is the opposite of Attunement. It cuts off a Druid's access to Druidic magic. It takes three Druids to perform Unattunement, and, should this be added to the plugin, it would simply set the 'Attuned' variable to a 'false' or a '0' or whatever and disable the use of Druid magic for the Unattuned individual. This is the method used to deal with rogue Druids, and it's very rare.Re-Attuning an individual who has been Unattuned requires three Druids. This is pretty important to us, and we really hope you'd consider adding these features to the plugin.EDIT: It has been brought to my attention that a mechanic of a similar nature could easily be used for Clerics and Necromancers.
cmack1028 549 Share Posted August 27, 2014 Yeah, I suggested an "Attunement" spell to be given to certain druids which enables druid magic for an individual on the magic info thread. An "Unattunement" spell should also be added as you've stated, simply locking druid magic for said individual once more. +

Divinae 32 Share Posted August 27, 2014 I respect the lore, even if the nature-y spells are really desirable... Hopefully it won't be too difficult to implement! +

Fid 566 Share Posted August 27, 2014 As a firm believer in locked magic, I think that this is a step in the right direction. +
Katherine1 362 Share Posted August 27, 2014 The attunement ritual involves a guide taking the dedicant down to the attunement pool where the dedicant floats. The guide performing the ritual either stands on the shore, or stands over the dedicant in the water, depending on their style. The dedicant receives an RP vision. Once the vision concludes, the person is attuned. It requires one druid who knows how to attune to perform the first time, and then 3 if they are being reattuned after that first time. Unattunement is performed by three druids working together. The process removes the person's attunement, which renders them incapable of using the gifts of nature. This is an absolute last case, most extreme punishment the druids have. They will look for any way to correct a druid's behavior before unattunement becomes necessary. In the year and a half I've been on the server, it's only been performed once or twice. It is incredibly rare. An unattunement accompanies a shun on the ex-druid. This is why druids are so reluctant to shun their own, because unattunement and shun on a druid are tied together as one punishment. It takes a very special case to do one without the other.
Blundermore 2741 Share Posted August 27, 2014 Or you could just use the spells given and use those as Druid powers where they would fit as well instead of making silly spells that effectively already gets filled by RP... Plugins don't replace RP. Merely compliments it. You don't need a spell to "attune someone". If you've managed to get by without a plugin for over three bloody years without a plugin for flaming attunement I don't think it's much of an issue now.
