Mission and Tradition

The Aesterkorps, also known as Vanders, is a relatively new organization, founded in 1476 by the young Arn Rovin, son of Voron Rovin, the 1st Apostolic King of Aesterwald, in response to a growing need for a banner force for the family. As the Rovin family grows and expands in its reach and power, the heartiest warriors from among the land are called to experience a life of servitude and tradition.

Rank and Organization

The Aesterkorps derives their ranking and organization system and regimen from many different culture, organizations, and guilds. However, the most prevalent similarity is that of the Holy Order of Saint Lucien, formally led by Grandmaster Jack Rovin of Kaedrin.

Currently held by Arn of Rovin, son of Lord Voron of Rovin, the (rank)  is sole head of all professional and levy forces of Aesterwald and her dependents.

Stellvertreter (Deputy Constable)

These are Ritterbruderns that have been promoted to Deputy Constable to assist with the leadership of the Aesterkorps. These men have have many years of military and leadership service making them all perfect for this position

Ritterbrudern

Knighted by the sword of Lord Voron himself, Knights of Aesterwald, or “Knight-Brothers” are sworn to the protection of House Rovin and the hardy people tilling the lands of Aesterwald. Following a strict code, not unlike the multiple codes and laws from the Holy Order of Saint Lucien, knights are chivalrous and undoubtedly loyal. To be nominated for the title, a candidate must at least be a HalbBrudern and be elected unanimously by the Ritterbrudern.

Halbbrudern

The first rank of chosen soldiers, “Half-Brothers” are the more senior soldiers and are classified as an Officer in the Aesterkorps, chosen through unanimous vote and approval by the Oberst. The HalbBrudern take on roles of responsibility not taken by the Ritterbrudern, and take direct command of the Zenturio and Initiates.

Diendebrudern

Diendebrudern are of slightly higher status than the Zenturio. Usually selected when under the age of twenty, the Diendebrudern are candidates to be knighted through military service. Always born of low status, the Diendebrudern take up the role of the squire to the knights. They are, in theory, equal to the Zenturio, though the old and hardened men hardly regard the Diendebrudern as knights or knightly figures.

Zenturio

Akin to the rank of Sergeant, this is the highest rank of the enlisted men. These men have many years of experience and have fought many battles against many different foes. They are also seen as the junior Officers and can lead groups of soldiers and completing duties not taken on my the Ritterbrudern or the Halbrudern.

Gefreiter (Corporal)

Akin to Corporal, these men have proven themselves in battle and have earnt their rank. These men tend to act as an assistant to Officers or Zenturios, They help with running and planning training as well as recruiting. They are sometimes seen leading small groups of men or small training exercises.

Initiate

This is the first rank of the Aesterkorps and is considered a basic foot soldiers who have yet to complete basic training and swear an Oath to the AesterKorps.

Sub-Ranks and Responsibilities

Sub-Ranks and responsibilities are not titles themselves, but special jobs taken up by the men of the korps.

 

Quartermaster

The Quartermaster is an export on logistics. He is responsible for providing the Korps with adequate supplies and nutrition. He maintains storage, keeping it up-to-date with needed arms, metals, foods, and any other thing deemed necessary for a soldier’s life. There are generally a few quartermasters at a commandery, and one at a baliwick.

Master-of-Arms

The Master-of-Arms is a blacksmith in the Korps. He is responsible for keeping all arms and armour up to date, as well as providing general tools and trinkets for the soldiers. The Master-of-Arms is the first man in the Korps to receive fresh metals and ores. There is at least one smith at every encampment.

Sappuer

The Sappuer is a master of fortification and siege. Always armed with a hammer, axe, and spade, the Sappeur is expected to be very nimble and cunning in the ways of haste carpentry. Many Sappuers grow long beards out of tradition.

Jager

The Jager is the light infantry component of the Korps who acts as a scout and as fast, elite infantry. They can survive in the wilderness for long periods of time and are experts at covert operation.

Logistical Organization

Organization of Territory

As part of war and conquest, the acquisition of territory is inevitable. The Aesterkorps is fit to deal with short-term land management with an easy-to-follow governance doctrine.

The Bailiwick is an outpost, normally a small and fortified building, hill face, or crossing, that garrisons no more than 50-100 soldiers. When fortifying a frontier, Bailiwicks are established on the outermost part of the controlled territory in order to keep watch on anything that lies beyond. When used in the invasion of a country, bailiwicks are used to distinguish a clear line of control.

Organization of Supplies

The organization of supplies is revolutionary to how armies work on the battlefield. Without adequate means to survive and fight, the Legionärs are deprived of their means to put up superior mobilization and movement. To help with this, a common system of quartermastering has been put into place.
