The Witchers of Aesterwald

The profession of Monster Hunting and Dispatching is a dangerous work, but a necessary one. In these hard lands especially, one must keep wary of the beasts that stalk the forest and caves with the sole intention of feasting on the flesh of the innocent.

The Königreich, by order of Köniig Voron I does hereby commission the work of 'Witchers' and various skilled and professional monster hunters to aid the realm in this painful and inglorious task.

The Witchers are officially commissioned within Aesterwald to do the Köniig's work regarding monsters and beasts. Being provided a small plot to conduct themselves, the Witchers work at discounted prices for then State.

Witching services are still offered to private citizens, and are available for hire by any with the coin. The Witchers have the sole right to deny or refuse any contract or negotiate the price. In addition, they may refuse to recruit any and dismiss any Witcher at any time, for any reason, revoking their lawful ability to hunt monsters and take contracts within the Königreich.

Any sightings or known locations of monsters classified by Group II or III is to be reported to the State and Witchers.

Classification

Monsters are classified into these categories and these groups. Certain groups may only be hunted by Witchers with a proper license.

Group I: Trivial

Trivial Monsters are ones such as Zombies and Skeletons which don't require a skilled hand to slay. Their removal is vital but due to their weak nature they are able to be hunted by any.

Group II: Difficilis

This group of monsters refers to beasts that present a real threat. They are usually aggressive and semi-intelligent, often living in nests or packs of some sort. They openly prey on villagers, caravans and weaker beings.

Group III: Mortalis

The most deadly of the groups. These monsters are rare, and often kill any hunting them. The attempted tracking and slaying of these monsters instead of reporting is punishable by imprisonment. That is to say the Hunter survives. These beasts terrorize entire countries and are often made out to be demons or such. Notable monsters are the Cockatrice, or the Archais.

Further more, if a monster is killed in self defense, it's corpse or adequate samples is to be brought to the Waldian Mages Guild and Witchers for study and classification. As well, a first hand report of the monster and event may be required for records.

Ranks

Master

Overall master and commander. Deals with contracts and assignments as well as personal review. He has the final say in all things concerning the Order. The Master is chosen from among the ranked Witchers by vote when the Master dies or otherwise vacates his post.

Witcher

Those who have proven their worth and able to complete hunts on their own. They are often assigned a Fledgling to train and evaluate to report back to the Master.

Fledgling

Those newly inducted. They do not hunt alone. They spend their time learning, and doing hunts of weaker monsters with other Fledglings or a Witcher.

Honorary Titles

Armsman- Distributed weapons and armor

Blacksmith- Forges special weaponry

Loremaster- Keeps all information on monsters, and records new information

Huntsmaster- The most skilled hunter among the group, they have slain a truly horrific monster

Joining

Joining the Witchers involves a lengthy training period, usually taking young boys and girls before they have hit puberty in order to train them. Those who apply have a harder time and usually make for poorer Witchers than those trained from a young age, but are still welcome.

The roster is small, and exclusive. A spot does not open unless a member dies, is dismissed, or departs. Fill out the attached form for review. An accepted application means the applicant is under review and subject to a probationary period in which they may be dismissed at any time for any reason.

Joining means giving up your old life. It means moving, cutting most ties and quitting your other jobs. You work for contracts and for the Guild. If you don't have the commitment, then don't bother applying.

"For what purpose?" says Aren Bethrol as he tends to his bookstore in Aesterwald.

Name: Jaquet Hightower
Race: Human
Age: 20
Current residence: Petrus before starting to travel, currently without home
Other jobs/obligations/responsibilities: Used to be a Imperial Provost of Oren, serving under the Disciplinarians
Skills (fencing, alchemy, archery etc): Decent swordsman, above average lumberjack, trained woodworker and stonemason, experience in military
Why are you trying to apply?: After travelling Athera for quite some time and having taken a break from military tasks, I am wishing to rejoin a human nation. Aesterwald and its Witchers are my favorite choice mainly because of their standing in the realm. They seem much less biased and corrupt than its human counterpart.

Voron makes note that this is an independent faction, merely housing within Aesterwald. It is not a state supported organization, however, permits were given for these individuals to hunt beasts for pay.

*A message is sent to the Witchers*

Name: Finn (No-name)

Race: Human Highlander

Age: 21

Current residence: Wanderer

Other jobs/obligations/responsibilities: Either dead or nonexistent.

Skills (fencing, alchemy, archery etc): I can take care of a simple zombie or skeleton. I know a bit of survival skills, tracking, hunting, trap making. I also know how to light simple fires with Household Magic. I'm interested in learning Alchemy and Enchanting.

Why are you trying to apply?: Not willing to say much over a poorly secured message. I had a run-in with a monster once, and it left me broken. But, it opened my eyes to the creatures that crawl, slither, and lurch about in the Darkness. It is this Darkness and all within it that threaten humanity. I want to banish this Darkness.

The Church Party of Aesterwald supports the notion of monster hunters and push for state funding and tax cuts for this hard working company.

Name:Ecthallion Att'riades

Race: Wood Elf

Age: 35

Current residence: Laureh'lin

Other jobs/obligations/responsibilities: I am currently a citizen of Laureh'lin, but I hold no important positions in the city.

Skills (fencing, alchemy, archery etc): I have proficient archery skills, and I have some experience with a blade. I also some survival skills learned from my time as a Phoenix Ranger.

Why are you trying to apply?: After I fought in the battle against Iblees at Annil'sul, I have been inspired to use the skills I learned serving as a ranger against the dark forces, and joining a team of witchers, especially one based in Asterwald (which aided me and my kin at Annil'sul) seems like the best way.
