A Crow Returns from its Roost

 

 

    The sun radiated baking warmth over Petrus, with the buzz of commoners and bustle of merchants ever-present under the sweltering sky. Even in the spring season, the Capital wielded a fierce heat which bore down upon an aged man as he looked down at the city he once called home. His emerald eyes scanned over the land he once ruled. Memories of long forgotten times sailed through his mind; the crow was back where he belonged.

 

    Standing tall and daunting, his crown glinting with the light of the sun, the old Emperor Boris III Carrion took his place at the centre of the gates. A foughty smell protruded from his ragged clothes. He took no notice if this, instead he was poised sedately, his hands at his sides as he coolly ignored the blistering sun.

 

    From Justiciar to Emperor to commoner Boris had been through a lot in such a little time. His once boyish charm had worn off into a desipient frown. Although the years away from Athera had been less than kind to Boris he found it hard to return to the land of his family. His once gaggle of followers were nothing but a distant memory and his power absent but nonetheless Boris was back. The crow had awakened from its roost.
