dandan1350 479 Share Posted November 19, 2014 Symon falters in his step, muttering beneath his breath. "So its time.." With that he took the knee infront of King Maric. His sabre leaving its sheath and holding the blade steady in the flat of his palms as he began to recite the lines he has had the displeasure of speaking one too many times. "I, Symon Stafyr, humble subject of the creator, descendant and great great great grandson of Galtor I. Stafyr in direct line, Eighth Patriarch of House Stafyr, Count of Werdenberg, Fourth Lord of Stafyr in service to the Kingdom, hereby solemnly swear following oath. In fulfilment of the words "Law, Honor, Loyalty, Family and Truth",... I swear to hold up the King's law and word, do his bidding. I swear to hold up the King's honor, defend him from his enemies, hold his name up in high regards, fight and if Creator wills it die in his name. I swear to loyally serve the King and not fall in his back, be it by plotting with his enemies or be it by attacking him directly. I swear that the family and House of Stafyr will serve the King as loyal as I shall, and I will persecute every member who denies their oath. I swear to always talk truthfully to the King, to not lie, even if dark thoughts burden my mind. I swear my lands to the King, to hold them just-fully and rule over them rightfully. By these words I swear loyalty until the end of days or the creator's wish to take me home. May the creator judge my soul and life truly and punish me for false deeds. In Law, in Honor, in Loyalty, by Family, for Truth. Signed by Lord Symon Stafyr, Count of Werdenberg, Patriarch of House Stafyr." Symon stood from his position, a sour and horrid taste in the back of his throat.

"You know this is the first time the Stafyr's have done anything close to betrayal and its not really betrayal because they had no oaths to the Carrions or the Kingdom of Oren, as the Empire is disbanded thanks to your glorious leader all oaths were dissolved along with it. Which is why your glorious leader was calling for reaffirmations of vassalage, I also recall him saying he would not take action against those who wouldn't stay within his Kingdom." I don't require my subjects to kneel, I accept your oaths of vassalage to me and the Kingdom of Renatus. Welcome home to the Heartland."

I want my people to rule themselves and to have ample land to do as such, I also want the same for the Raevir, I do not seek the destruction of the Raevir, not even the destruction of House Carrion. I seek freedom, justice and honour to rule my people, your people and that of Aesterwald. This can only be achieved through the peoples choices and the Stafyrs have made their choice." I don't understand.. What freedom was it that did you not have under Carrion? And of justice, you have been treated justily by everyone. I'm sure you wish for honor, but truly, is it switching sides like that honourable? I think not.

IrishPerson 693 Share Posted November 19, 2014 Athelstan II. Stafyr sits in his private study with a longface, never before had a decision this rash and unnecessary been made by any Lord of house Stafyr. Unknowing of the situation that had become, the young Athelstan decided to write a letter sent back to his hometown of Werdenberg for the eyes of Lord Symon Stafyr. "To my dearest cousin, Symon Stafyr, It is with great confusion and sadness that I must take my time from studying to write this letter however this matter seems most pressing and controversial. Recently a member of the clergy whom I had made friends with informed me of a decision made by you. The decision, as you well know, was to bend the knee to King Maric of house Varodyr. This decision seems both rash and completely unnecessary to me. Perhaps I am in a state of ignorance although this is to be expected, I was as surprised as the next man. Yet I am inclined to ask if this is ignorance on your part rather then mine. You seemed not to seek counsel from another Stafyr nor opinions for that matter. As heir of house Stafyr I expected to be at least informed of these decisions if not asked for my opinion on the matter. Such is the way of Stafyr. It was not until later that evening that I had found the supposed reasons you bent the knee to this man. To preserve the honor of our house was what stood out to me, yet you switch sides during this conflict. This seems like no honor to me! You even went as far as to say you never wanted to fight, the lies and slander which crawl from your mouth is remarkable. I was with you when we spoke to my cousin, Roy Carrion, and he gave you the option. He did not force it upon you yet you said you would and in turn you did raise the banners. You said Maric had betrayed the church, killed our men and seeked war against mankind when the undead pour from whatever pit they came from but you still join them after a single lost skrimish. To say that our words had been tarnished due to your guilt is merely selfish and to make a decision for the house based on your guilt? Revolting. When I heard of the oath you had sworn I felt ill. Swearing that every member of the house who should not serve this king as loyal as you would be persecuted? I am unsure if this stupidity was of your doing, regardless your loyalty should be matched with ease. Furthermore you claim to be returning on the path of Godwein Stafyr, a man who had been sainted need I remind for diligence. A man of diligence would surly not make such a careless decision. You claim we fall towards our peasant roots once more however how mistaken you are. Stafyr have never been peasants. Stafyr have been labourers, skilled craftsmen and men of both persistence and loyalty yet it is only now that Stafyr has resorted to being peasants under your rule. I have heard that we have been welcomed home, that we are heartlanders too. Have you forgotten that we are of Hansetian decent? I write with a purpose other then to slander you and vent my frustration. I am asking for an explanation to this decision, one that is just, honorable and loyal. With Regards, Athelstan II. Stafyr, son of Farley II. Stafyr and heir to house Stafyr" Athelstan seals the letter with the falcon of house Stafyr before handing it to his most trusted worker for delivering to Symon Stafyr.
