James 425 Share Posted December 13, 2014 Welp...there goes the whole dwarven library...3k minas...hundreds of iron ingots...tons of coal...so...done... I think I lost around 10k minas, I currently have 8k. I don't really mind about that, I'm more worried about my artifacts and books.
Birdwhisperer 1174 Author Share Posted December 13, 2014 While I never really liked that GM's weren't supposed to reimburse things in these scenarios, my advice if you can't get your stuff back is to just roleplay it like some big calamity happened that messed up everyone's stuff. Play it off in RP. Yah, it sucks that items got lost, but it's not too hard to suck it up and move on. You'll forget in a week anyways. Also, this isn't directed at anyone in particular (especially not bird, who seemed pretty reasonable and not upset in her post), but I'm sure if someone hasn't gotten super upset already, someone certainly will. But yah, these should be able to be reimbursed to the best of the GM's ability, in my opinion. I am so upset you don't even. jk. no but srsly Losing items is one thing, losing books is something else entirely. That doesn't go away after a week. I'm still mad about the library full of books I lost back in Elysium because the book plugin crashed. And every other time I've lost books due to crashes, rollbacks, and so on. I try to screenshot all of them or store them in a google doc because I honestly do not trust the server's stability (which is sad) but even then some things slip through and get lost permanently. As I've said, I understand that it would be a very difficult task for the staff to reimburse everyone who lost something. However, it was the staff's fault that things were lost in the beginning. I also realize that people mistakes, I'm not pointing fingers or mad at anyone. However, I do believe that if a member of staff makes a mistake that so drastically effects people they should put the effort into setting things right. The extra work involved might also encourage people to be more careful and stop making the same mistakes. (How many times has this map alone been rolled back?) Edit: Whatever happened is fixed and all my items are back to the way they should be. Yay! Thank you whoever fixed it. However, I do still think this is a conversation worth having. Since it will most likely happen again...
501warhead 1796 Share Posted December 13, 2014 Most likely (from what I can tell folks) going to be reverting to an earlier save which will be in a state where your items and builds are returned albeit slightly older (around a day ago) We are addressing the issue that caused this and taking measures to prevent it from occurring again. This should become much more of a rarity after the measures being put in place are finished, sorry for the inconvenience folks.

monkeypoacher 8055 Share Posted December 13, 2014 people can lose >10k minas, stacks of diamonds, and other such things. Out of the blue, all of a character's acquisitions, all of their power and wealth, everything that kept their family afloat, is gone. "sorry no refunds!" How is refusing to compensate for massive losses of wealth, written books and RP items somehow any better or more solid policy than recompensating these items? If people did abuse this to gain items it'd be legitimately no worse than people losing items. They both make equally less sense in role-play. Most likely (from what I can tell folks) going to be reverting to an earlier save which will be in a state where your items and builds are returned albeit slightly older (around a day ago) We are addressing the issue that caused this and taking measures to prevent it from occurring again. Judas 30 Share Posted December 13, 2014 Then call for Event Specific Refunds, or a Temporary Refund Application. Surely you kids are intelligent enough to accomplish this? Make this refund accessible for 24 hours, and then cease Refund. Here I'll help. Imam Faiz Kharadeen 3167 Share Posted December 13, 2014 Staff always fucks up one way or another to the point where we lose great progress. Have they ever refunded us before? Nope. Not even when a GM back in anthos WE destroyed our ******* armory, causing us to lose about 20 stacks of iron blocks. RIP. But if we should take this in a professional outlook... A refund should be granted to those that lost their items, especially to those that have donated to the server. If a game studio released a game, and everyone on it managed to get to a very high level (or gain rare items, etc) during a lengthy course of time, and all of a sudden the servers crash or data is loss.. Whos responsibility is it? The game studio. What do the game studios tend to do when things go bad? They offer refunds back to the players. They either refund them their money back, or offer an ingame item/powerup/whatever to appease the players who had to suffer. Why must I mention this? Because if LoTC wants to make this server sooo professional, then they should at least adhere to the standards others go through when it comes to refunds. I know this isnt some big game studio, its just a bunch of kids paying to host a server, but if you want to continue the professional outlook of maintaining the server, then do professional things. Give the children their refunds.
