Stag 3234 Share Posted January 20, 2015 *~~~*~~~* Hey guys! So an issue that has been bugging me for while and keeps coming back up is Cloud Temple's placement and how it is directly causing damage to players well being. There really is only one bridge to pass to and from the North without going through antagonist territory or locked gates and that is through Cloud temple. What this meant is that if you were engaging in PvP and needed to run but your home was on the other side of that bridge you must have either gone all the way around to avoid the safe-zone region or break rules and pass through it. I sympathize with those affected by this and I don't wish to see people punished for this so I thought I could attempt and fix the situation. *~~~*~~~* The idea that I will be implementing for a test run is a separate region around the road that has PvP enabled. [!] WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU: This means that if PvP is engaged outside of Cloud Temple and you attempt to run through CT you must stick on the road. This will allow PvP to continue throughout the chase. Granted right when you step or get knocked off the road back into CT PvP-deny comes back into play. However since this only matters really when a player is being chased if someone gets knocked into the PvP-deny and decide to stay there you have full right to file a report for abusing mechanics. Likewise if a player chooses to cut through CT and does not take the road you have full rights to file a report. [!] WHAT THIS DOESN'T MEAN FOR YOU: This doesn't mean that you can begin doing banditry on the road of Cloud Temple. RPly the area still blocks out physically harmful acts and if you decide to ignore this you will be punished accordingly. You cannot start the PvP inside Cloud temple. *~~~*~~~* I know this may cause some issues which is why I am labeling it as a test. We are as a community going to test run this solution and hopefully we can learn and develop something that will work for us. In the event that it is a total mess I can revert the regions with one command. So with that in mind let's keep an open mind and move forward, friends! TL;DR -Cloud Temple road is seperately regioned to allow PvP -If passing through to run or escape from PvP you must stick to the road -You cannot cut through any other part of Cloud Temple to avoid PvP -You still cannot bandit in Cloud Temple -You guys are great EDIT: ALSO THIS IS PRETTY IMPORTANT INFO SO POST TO YOUR FRIENDS!
Stag 3234 Author Share Posted January 20, 2015 first Thoughts? I want you guys to know that I am trying and hopefully even if this flops we can discover a better solution to the problem. I personally believe this will make moderating the issue much easier.

Stag 3234 Author Share Posted January 20, 2015 Can I get unbanned, please? This is something you need to discuss with the GM that banned you. Hopefully situations like yours can be avoided in the future though.
Areon 947 Share Posted January 20, 2015 Good idea, but I can easily see a (in teamspeak) "He's running to aesterwald, cut through halflings and cut him off!" from an attacking force.
The Womping Wizard 400 Share Posted January 20, 2015 I think it'd be alright considering how much this server PvPs, as long as This doesn't mean that you can begin doing banditry on the road of Cloud Temple. You cannot start the PvP inside Cloud temple. is honored, being all forms of villainous action.

Definitely a worry of mine but I don't think it will be detrimental. The road is definitely one of the fastest ways to cut through CT since it is connected to the bridge and doesn't require maneuvering through trees. Hopefully we won't see an issue with this. I think it'd be alright considering how much this server PvPs, as long as is honored, being all forms of villainous action. If it isn't that player will receive punishment just like always. Jistuma 1996 Share Posted January 20, 2015 Not all forms of villainy, just physical harm (including Mental stuff and trying to force physical things like grabbing and not letting go, or having a collar on the neck and being pulled) isn't possible in the cloud temple. Conning someone for example is allowed, and so is running away from the tavern without paying. About the idea, I would just create a new road that heads to the halflings and then a new bridge or something, but I guess it works
Booklight12 481 Share Posted January 20, 2015 Basically this, or make a different landbridge to cross instead of cloud temple. Or even go as far as moving the cloud temples location which is a drastic thing but. Making a different road would probably be much more efficient. Since what happens when they knock out the person in the middle of the cloud temple? The innocent people of the cloud temple or the monks are simply going to allow him to be killed in the middle of the cloud temple? And then with the saying of making a new bridge around monk land, it can also get detrimental when the chasers of the person running for example may simply cut through the main road and cut the runners off since the runners aren't allowed to use the no pvp zone. Personally though, I simply think it'd be better to make a different land bridge around monks though. On paper this is a great idea and can help reduce the issue, but in practice there are simply so many factors that would prevent it on an IC level. As no monk or bystander would allow a person running away to get killed in the middle of the temple. I know I wouldn't but then when or if they down the person my character would be unable to stop the fighting as no fighting rule.

I understand where you are coming from but the issue you bring up is something you deal with no matter where you are on the server. If someone is already in PvP then you couldn't do anything about it regardless if you are in CT or not.

If someone is already in PvP then you couldn't do anything about it regardless if you are in CT or not. It's not necessarily an issue that they can't join in, in general. It would be more of an issue specifically because it is cloud temple and combat isn't supposed to be there. Aswell, if they get killed in the cloud temple and respawn in cloud temple with no knowledge. Basically right outside of where they step out, would be the group that killed them. Though, it's cool to test it and not make a straight decision without player feedback, so I like :P. Just have some concerns with that issue. It's mainly an IC issue if anything. Yeah hopefully the issues that come up are minor but if not then it is good that it is a test run! A hard decision will be made whenever the administration feels it is needed so we might as well use this time to work out what we can!
VampsWillDie 76 Share Posted January 21, 2015 I think a plugin would work pretty well. Something like /status pvpenable or something? That way before PVP is called you can do that and it'll have a little status shown up by your name plate to indicate you are able to be pvp'd anywhere. something like that.
