The Atheran Map-Making Competition

 

Hail friends of Athera,

 

I am Feanor, an elf and merchant of a time past. While little of my wealth remains, I hope to use what remains for the betterment of our realm and those least familiar with it. In my travels, I am yet to find a good map of this great land, and would pay a cartographer dearly who could compose one marking all known settlements and landmarks.

 

If one is unsure of the shape of our land, it is marked above.

 

Rewards:

- 25,000 minas -

- A tome containing secrets regarding a skill of your choosing -

- Your name immortalized as the great cartographer of Athera -

 

Send the map to Feanor if you’re interested, with your name as well. If your map is better than all others, you will be contacted.

Requirements for the competition are as follows:

 

- All racial capitals and major settlements should be on the map, as should the main roads. Nation borders and important landmarks are also recommended, albeit not required for entry -

 

- If you think your settlement may be forgotten but would like it included, comment below so cartographers will see it -

 

- The goal of this competition is to make a map usable by new players. Keep this in mind when making your map, and consider including coordinates on your map if possible. Likewise, make it apparent where spawn is, as this will make it the most useful for new players -

 

- While we may repeat this competition when this map becomes outdated, we may instead choose to simply update your map. Please submit a blank copy as well as one filled out with the required information -

 

- If you have any questions or something is unclear, feel free to ask below. Readicti or I will try to respond promptly -

Competition ends April 20th. The winner gets the minas and a skill tome of their choosing. The winner and two runners up get a special “Map Maker” in-game tag.

It's the closest thing to an updated map image we have, as nearly all the geography is write, it merely lacks buildings and trees. We wanted something that map-makers could use as a base when making the map, given that we have no dynmap to work off of anymore. However, if there is anything specific which is clearly wrong above, feel free to let me know and I can make an edit noting that.

For the benefit of new players, I think that in any map that is made, capital cities should be emphasized and pointed out more than any side settlements.
