Aislin 4354 Share Posted April 14, 2015 I hate to harken back to the not-as-great-as-everybody-makes-it-out-to-be days of Aegis, but who remembers the fall of Al'khazar? And every subsequent city falling? Who remembers how much RP stemmed from that? Everybody's characters were deeply affected by it. Why? Because there was loss. There is an old writer's adage: "figure out the worst thing that can happen to your protagonist, then make it happen." Loss is a universal constant among people, thanks to the nature of life and inevitability of death, and rings true to all who experience a storyline. Loss defines a story arc, loss changes stagnating circumstances, loss drives character development. Everybody knows a kid that is rich, attractive, has a good family, and never had anything bad to him/her. Spoiler alert: they're rarely interesting people, for a reason. Cyndikate 2303 Share Posted April 14, 2015 Mirtok , that PM was made two years ago. I doubt it has merit.
Mirtok 2853 Share Posted April 14, 2015 The themes remain relevant and are used as a relatable situation to explain a point. She referenced the very character that is discussed in the PM to explain her point and I offered a counter to it. If she is no longer of that opinion in the PMs then I am glad, but it is still a helpful device to get her to remember what being in the position is like. Much better than just saying WooHoo +1 or This is crap. But my thanks go up to the peanut gallery.
Samoblivion 532 Share Posted April 14, 2015 Dark Heresy sounds like a sadistic GM's wet dream. Making a Warp transit are we? Gellar Field failure! Lol your ship is now exposed to the raw Warp, enjoy the deck-plating turning into a bottomless sinkhole of blood and misery while the light-switches give birth to flesh-eating maggots. If the oppression RP is done well and RP'd well and OOC'lly conscientiously from both sides it could be as good as Urara says. However, if someone uses it as an excuse to OOC'lly dickslap players they don't like in the face, it could go pretty damn badly. History supports the latter as being more likely, sad to say. In my opinion if the elves get more subjugation RP, I'll roll with it. Can't say the same for others though.
