Inactivity in the Church

My previous writings, many would identify, have been filled with aggression and a militant sense of pride - a passionate desire to fight. This piece, a call for action and a genuine plea to the Vicar of GOD.

I have not been a priest for long, my acolyteship was what felt like an age - truthfully no more than four years - and my deaconship lasted for a scant two. Yet in that time I have been faced by the enormity of the beast that lies at the heart of the One True Faith.

Inertia.

The inertia present in the Church is a canker that creeps slowly from bishop to priest to deacon. I have not yet seen a bishop, and two dioceses - one of which that covers a large population - remain without appointment. I do not lay this at the feet of the High Pontiff, for he is the only senior clergyman that I have seen and conversed with, but rather those entrusted with power that do little with it. Oh, attempts have been made with the Order of St. Daniel, and it is making progress. It is recruiting and converting, yet the dioceses that should form the heart of the Church remain either ill-managed or devoid of governance.

Inertia, in an ironic manner, seems to slowly grow. It seems that an inactive bishop lends to less mass, less donations, less growth. Less recruits. We all surely know, for we were all once one, that the Church thrives and is sustained only by more being ordained and taking upon themselves the duty to serve GOD.

I see theses go unanswered daily, several of the Acolyte Bracchus’ have passed without comment - as is often a custom, if not necessary. No doubt the greatest injustice in such a case is the fact that despite such writings the lack of a bishop present has led to him not yet even being considered for deacon.

I urge you, High Pontiff, at least answer this plea with definite and prolonged action - not simply words. It saddens the heart of every believer to see this state of affairs, and it is only through the power invested in you may you change such.

PRIEST OSCAR OF NORFOLK

Father Edmond frowns.

"His Holiness does more than this man, I've naught seen this 'Oscar of Norfolk' participating in the running of our fair Cannon, nor give any mass in the least. Give him a chance to make real change instead of hounding him with accusations of inactivity and previous to this, the accusations of sinful activity. He ascended to the position for a reason."

Should Aemolius hear, he would frown up the mightiest of storms!

"He has married folks in his short time, running about Felsen spreading the word of the lord, alongside creating many thesis'! He approached me several times about holding mass, which I only refused due to my not even being properly initiated! Since you two do not serve in the same dioceses, I would hope you probably HAVEN'T seen him!"

Father Edmond responds.

Yet I've seen his Holiness to the same, helping in matrimony and furthering the conversion of the other Races. I've not however seen Oscar speak or contact the High Pontiff on those matters so as to address his problems. I've talked to his Holiness multiple times in between his stalwart meetings with both Elven and Dwarven kind alike, rather than slandering his name. It is all well and good that those concerns be addressed, but if the case was inactivity it should have been addressed long ago, not shoved aside until this very day.

Oscar responds,

"I slander not his name - nor is such my intent if taken in such a way. My earnest desire upon the publishing of such a document - as I hope was carried across, is to seek redress. I have not seen him to ask him about these. I simply request an increase in activity and a drive - not to somehow defame the Vicar of God."

Such news weren't anything good, and Constans was sure of it, but if there was anything other he could be entirely certain of in these weird times, it was also that Oscar was right. Overhearing Edmond's loud remark, his Bracchus blood would boil, and once more, did Hydra take it's bite instead of the calm and collected Augurist:

"Naught he does? Naught you say? Why, would you..." He winces in his place, as if the litany of adjectives was a little bit too much to bear for a young man  "Your sickness spreads and multiplies, and I'd rather see it cured sooner then later, you... meagre... excuse for God's servant."

Edmond retorts

"Yet there have been, men have been appointed to the Synod. Bishops have not been inactive, they've yet to be appointed due to none yet proving their merit for the position. In Adria for example, both Father Fiddle and I have been doing our best to provide guidance to the faithful. If you wish for more Bishops to be appointed or 'active', then communicate with his Holiness and make your worth known, it is up to us to live up to Faithful Sixtus, the Creator, and the faithful themselves."

Oscar retorts,

"The Synod has been filled to a Triarchy, not yet a Pentarchy was seen in the days of Daniel I. This in itself appears to reflect the inactivity, for activity and diligence inspire and lead on to activity and diligence - allowing for the appointment of more competent. Would that I could communicate with his Holiness, yet I do not see him. Perhaps due to my stay in Felsen - where, I should make clear, there is a bishop that I have not yet seen. This is despite my existence being confined mostly to there as I preach and take confessions. The lack of any other priest, deacon, acolyte or laity within Felsen has given me an inability to perform mass - as it demands two people. I have only had the service of one of my theses being appraised, and it would seem that active communication is not a priority of his Holiness, due to the requests of the pair of Bracchus brothers to enter the Church whom both remain as acolytes - both have reached out in an attempt to take their trials."
