    • No. Restrict Membership.
  3. 3. Would you like to see this idea in game?

This is what the magic plugin is needed for!

The magic plugin has been the largest waste of server dev time ever, and provides no benefits and many potential issues in a scenario where pvp should only be treated as a solution to issue RP and not a go to.

Love this Idea, and It'd bring a purpose to magic.

There was a suggestion to hide away and make this membership only instead of opening it to the public. I was afraid that not make it public would result in it not being active.

81% of you suggest not opening it to the public. I wish to know your reasoning.

On to the concern of powergaming. With Magic, that's going to happen and we expect players to be sensible and fair to others. Powergaming will be extremely punishible, and enforced with including but not limited to, disqualification from the match, suspension from the arena for a set period of time, or permanently, rank resets, and barred from the matches. This is where judges will make a decision on whether or not to make the match PVP if an agreement cannot be made.

Would it be up to a GM to decide if a player was power gaming or would it be the rp leader/judge of this magic club?

The judge. If I can enlist MATs, that'd be nice too.

Are you actually allowed to do that? I'm pretty sure you can't have regular players punishing others in rp for power gaming.

If it's causing problems then yeah why not kick the player out? I'm talking powergaming in your most obvious sense.

Ah fair enough if it's for extreme power gamers. I just have an issue with regular players being given the power to make decisions on power gaming.

I'd say don't make it private, and just have guards ready for any troublemakers.

That way I can send in some undead! ;)

There is a big problem, rp fights get boring after a while. One fight is nice!... for those involved.

But the biggest problem is the amount of fights a mage would do. One fight here, one fight there it's fun and engaging. But if you need to fight because of victories to rank up... well... it should get boring pretty fast.

Either way, watching a mage's fight can be veeeeeery boring. Same as watching a normal sword's fight. If you're not involved with it, it's just less boring to walk away.

Gotta disagree here. I think that watching people fight, especially those who are skilled in emoting with description, is really enjoyable. I suppose it could get boring if the emotes and general rp is poor, but I'd like to think most mages can emote with flavor.

Here's a quick update on the magical arenas.

There will be battle ranks that gives members an incentive to roleplay and work their way up to the highest nobility rank they can. Each new member will start out at the rank of Peasant, or Plebeian, and must either win 1 match, or participate in 5 matches in order to ascend to the next rank of Baron.

Each rank above that will require either a certain amount of wins or a number of matches they participated in during their time as their current rank to ascend higher. This system provides a reward for winning matches, while losing a match isn't a big deal. Just keep participating and you will still rank up.

Nobles, unless of a certain rank will not get demoted from their current rank period, unless under a specific disciplinary action. This will add to the incentive to lose fights by making it less punishing.

Once they reach a certain high rank, they will find that there are only a small amount of spots available, and unless those spots are filled, they can still achieve that rank normally. However, all of the available nobility spots are filled, then they must challenge a current member to a duel, which if the challenger wins, he earns the title, while his opponent descends to his previous rank with another chance to regain his title.

I'll also add that there can only be one Grand Champion.

A system will be in place to provide the severest punishment for powergaming, and OOC bickering, including a permanent banishment from the arena. In some cases, continuous powergaming will be reported to staff.

I really enjoy RP fights, its just making them competitive that sounds like a bad idea.

It's competitive, but I'd to set it up so there's more incentive to lose, and losing won't feel as punishing. Plus there'd be more social things to do than just beating up the other mage. You're not winning anything other than a rank that serves not much purpose anyway. It's just for fun.

This is probably best for when or if the magic plugin comes out. I'm not sure if a crowd would be captivated by two guys text-battling in a sand pit.
